Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

I wonder how tricky it is for them? I'm guessing it's sort of a new type of release if they do and it might be quite a few legal issues to sort and get confirmed from the original publishers.

I can't imagine it being that bad given that the multi-disc games that everyone wants are MS-funded, owned, published. They've already completed the work necessary for it as a package since the games are digital installations to begin with. I think they're just gauging interest before whatever needs to happen with their rights-holding partners involved with each release. I mean, we're basically talking about two titles with Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, unless there's another one I'm forgetting.

Doom 3 also has this problem, but yeah the MS published ones should be easy enough to release digitally.

I really want to play Lost Odyssey, but I'm all-digital these days and don't really feel like trawling through CEX for a knackered disc copy.

Hope MS get something sorted for games that never had an original digital release. I'd love to buy a digital copy.

Does the game actuslly play off the disc or just download the game? Anyone confirm?

So once you do that with all the discs does it fully play digitally or do you still need to switch discs?

From what I understand what other people were saying, it all plays off Disc 1. I know it installed all of the game with only Disc 1 in the drive, at least (pretty sure it was all of the game, I mean).

You only put disc one in and initialize the download 'update' which just downloads the entire four-disc package. You only then need to have that first disc in the drive to play and all disc changes inside of the game emulation happen on their own without any need to physically switch.

Ah! I wonder why they didn't make a digital option? Am I missing something here?

I tried out Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts last night and it is MUCH improved since last I tried it. It's very much playable on XB1 now. Would love to see a DF comparison on the patched version.

Lost Odyssey is a big win and I can't wait to have some time to jump back in.

MY lists now just consist of one (since we already got New Vegas, Gears and LO); Civilization Revolution. Need that now please.

Actually considering upgrading my 360 now, just waiting on Blue Dragon. I'd like to see the other 5-10 or so JRPGs that never got PS3/Wii releases but I can't imagine many of them sold well enough to be worth it.

sales don't matter, it's publishers. So many random XBLA games no one asked for get added.

Licensing maybe? I'm not sure why. I think the game came and went too early in the cycle for Microsoft to care to go back.

Did the game have any licensed music in it? I also remember them making a big deal about getting a famous author to write the story sequences, so maybe there are rights issues tied up in that.

Can somebody ask Phil if at some point there will be a digital edition of Lost Odyssey? Same applies for other multidisc games w/o digital edition like Blue Dragon or Mass Effect 2 and 3

Also, once you make the effort to make the game backwards compatible, why don't you try to monetize that effort a little bit?

I ended up ordering a copy of Blue Dragon off Amazon for $20 bownrhst Lost Odyssey is BC. I am hoping that I can play that game after this fall is over.

You guys think there is chance Dragon Dogma will ever be added?

I would like to think so, but since Capcom ported to PC they may want to turn around port that to PS4/X1. They'll try to call it a remaster or definitive version. For once I would like for one of these publishers to label these remasters properly.

Bioshock - Cash Grab Collection
COD 4 Modern Warfare Remastered - Forced Infinite Warfare Paywall Edition
Batman Return To Arkham - Questionable Quality W/ UE4 Change And No Origins Included Edition
Dragon's Dogma - The PC Port of a Console Port Ported From PC Back To Console Edition (probable title if announced)

Anyone else getting crashes often when doing online co-op in Gears 3? In preperation of Gears 4 I've been playing through the series again this past year and Gears 1, 2 and Judgment have run without crashes, but today I started Gears 3 with a friend and the game crashes every 10-15 minutes. I can see others having problems here:

Did the recent emulator update break something?

Does anyone else think the disc-switching solution is a bit too inelegant?

It might be a considerable task but I wonder if they are working on an update that requires gamers to switch discs for multi-disc games.

What if a publisher says "But how will you stop someone from buying one copy of the game, and giving away Discs 2 and 3 to his friends, keeping Disc1. They'll all be able to play!"

You can only install with disc 1 though. The rest are useless.

What? No, we don't want that. A single file with automatic disc switches is just about the best we can expect. Only having to worry about the first disc to play the game is a fair way of doing it. Both are very fair, practical solutions.

Just re-watched the announcement of BC at E3 2015, and Forza Motorsport 2 was included in the sizzle reel, so I'm guessing that we're still waiting on that one then?

Hey folks. New to Xbone and had some questions regarding Perfect Dark. I realize this is not a troubleshooting thread, but I'm not sure where else to ask.

I bought Perfect Dark on 360 a few days ago and installed it on my S today. My save didn't transfer over. Is there some sort of cloud upload I can do on the 360 to get my save data over to the S?

When I did fire up PD on the S, inputs from the control sticks weren't registering at all, though inputs from the Dpad and face buttons were. Earlier the S prompted me to update the controller, but that failed when attempting it wirelessly. Are these perhaps related? I don't think I have an A-to-A USB cable to do the update.

Thanks for any insight.

Yes, you can transfer your save to the cloud, though on Xbox 360 I believe this requires and Xbox Live Gold account. Just go into Manage Storage on your 360 and you can move any save files you want to the cloud from there.

As for your controller issue, couldn't explain that (is there a control scheme in PD that doesn't use the stick perhaps?). I don't think you need USB cables to perform controller firmware updates anymore though, but I could be wrong.

Weird. It was there for me and the game seems to function just fine from just a first stage on X360 arranged mode. You guys in the US? Maybe it's slow to roll out...

I'm in the US and Guwange is not in my download list either(though it is shown as purchased on xbox.com ), hopefully it is resolved, eventually.

Looks like I wasn't the only one with an issue playing the Gears 3 campaign. Microsoft is looking into it. Happened in Gears Judgment as well. Must have been part of the latest patch.

I wonder if the holdup on multi-disc digital releases is in relation to the Xbox 360 store.

If managing multi-disc games is a feature unique to the Xbox 360 emulator the X1 is running, perhaps they don't have a way to release a 360 title on the marketplace while restricting it to Xbox One purchases in the process?

I think they just can´t release this on the Xbox 360 Store and have to release it on the Xbox One / Windows Store.

As it´s a new release this should not be a big problem.

Just played some co-op Streets of Rage 2 with my brother.

Runs perfect.

Oh how i wish they made a new one with deeper mechanics etc :)

Awesome tunes btw

So I ordered Blue Dragon to be prepared for when the game hits eventually but the used copy o got off Amazon is a North American version with everything written in Spanish. Is this going to be an issue when I go to play the game or will I get a language option to switch to English?

Beat the remake of Gears, most dudebro game I've ever played.

Now I'm off to track down a copy of 2, which I can get for $5 as opposed to buying the digital version on Live for $20.

They are up to 260 now? Wow. Didn't realize is was that many?

They have been pumping them out like crazy the past few month. Usually ~4-5ish a week. Seems like they've hit another big breakthrough with the emulator very recently too, with games running much smoother and more big titles (CoD, RDR) so I expect to get them even faster now.

You get the entire collection free with Gears 4 preorders. Not sure if it's digital only though, might be worth doing that instead. It was also GWG a few month ago, you missed out :(

Edit: Oh it might be until the end of 2016. Even better, then.
