Gears of War 4 coming free with Nvidia 1070 & 1080s through Oct 30

Hi all

We detected some Gears 4 Windows 10 keys were obtained illegitimately via our NVIDIA promotion. We have gone ahead and revoked keys that fell in this bucket. If you believe your key was incorrectly revoked, we highly recommend you contact NVIDIA support with proof of purchase to help out with this.

So, can I get my legit copy from Amazon or..?

The person I bought the key from on GAF, I sent him a message last weekend asking if he actually had the card and he didn't respond. If he refuses to refund me, can I force a refund though paypal or chargeback?

Had the copy I redeemeed revoked as well. Honestly haven't seen something like this occur before. The second hand key market is something that has and will continue to exist. Going to be slightly more skeptical now though. The initial flood of keys should have set us off tbh

The game has definitely been revoked. I bought my brother a code off of ebay and he had it preloaded. Now it doesn't say Owned and when attempting to launch it now says to purchase again.

Yea, mine was actually preloading. It still said owned in the store, but then I checked again about 20 minutes ago and it had a buy button, so I paused the preload and when I clicked play inside the W10 Xbox app it said "You received a refund for Gears of War 4 and it has been removed from your library", a couple of my friends lost theirs earlier so it appears the revokations are happening in waves.

Oh well, knew this was a possibility. I got it via the glitch on my own so no loss thankfully.

Good luck to those of you fighting for refunds.

It seems he refunded that Pitney Bowes shipping charge as well, and sent another message saying he was not threatening me.
Hmmm, I should save these eBay messages.

My friend bought two keys for 15 each and gave me one of the codes. He sent the money as friends/family or something so can he not get a refund? :c

Strange, the game shows that I own in in "my library" in the windows store app. However if I go to the Gears 4 store page, it doesnt say owned, it says preorder and gives a price of $59.99. The game also doesn't show in my games in the Xbox app.

I went ahead and went through the process to preorder the game on the store, and it let me go all the way to the confirm payment step. I'm assuming that means its been revoked. Strange that it still shows in my library on the windows store app, but could just not have been updated yet. When I try to download, it fails at the "verifying license" step every time.

The gaffer I bought from said its a legit key and seems confused as to why it happened.

I paid for this with with no knowledge it was not legit. Gets revoked and cant get ahold of seller. I am part of a community of facebook, a few of us whos keys got revoked found out they were all from the same seller - the seller is not responding to any of us. This is terrible and leaves a bad taste in my mouth regardless of who is to blame. Ill buy it used.

Wait so after the full refund, on my eBay page now the item is marked as "unpaid item". When I click the options thing and hit "return this item", it gives me a message to contact the seller to do that.
Do I need to do anything else on eBay for this "unpaid item"?

I had no knowledge either. Sucks, but I should have known better than to think I could get this game for $7...

GUY!!! best buy replaced amazon as a retail/etale partner. which means i may be eligible for the game for free

in case anyone else bought from best buy you can try and get a code for your purchase from them i guess.

Thank God I convinced Amazon to give me a $60 Amazon credit to buy Gears of War 4 instead of an actual NVIDIA code, no chance of my legit key getting revoked accidentally now.

So I opened a dispute from the guy who sold me one on reddit, he never responded to my pm's on there nor through paypal.

However I got an email from PP saying he had responded after I opened the dispute.

If they side with him I'm going to be pissed.

They're going to side with him unless you paid for a good.

I sent my payment as gift ;__;

I knew something was up when I posted in that reddit thread and the guy just PMd me a code without me even paying him lol.

I don't really have enough interest in this game to be mad about it and i'm out zero dollars so whatever.

I feel the same way. I bought it the day before I heard about the amazon glitch and hoped my code was the real deal. It's terrible how people are getting scammed like this.

This is bullshit that they would revoke the codes. It's not like we bought them knowing that they were dupes, it just seemed like they didn't want their code.
I've been pretty happy with microsoft lately but this is really really disappointing.

I'm out $70 right now

My eBay seller refunded me within 5 minutes of my first message. I got lucky on this one thankfully.
Can you check your eBay and what does the item appear as, unpaid or cancelled?
Mine appears as "unpaid item" after a full refund, wondering what I have to do next.

How $70?

fwiw it's mildly unprecedented in this sense-
see: steam revokes that got such high amounts of backlash they were honored.

Mine got revoked. I bought mine for $34 the day after the promo was announced before all of the Amazon nonsense happened. There was no indication there was anything other than what typically happens for these when legit owners bought cards and sold them off. I really hope I can just get a refund. This really is the sort of thing where revoking them is the wrong approach. If Amazon screwed up and gave out codes without purchases, they should shut the promo down until they fix it and take the loss on the ones already out there, because it was their mistake. If they burned through their allotment of codes from Nvidia because of their goof, too bad.

Same here. What a mess. Although I haven't gotten past the nvidia part yet.

I have confirmation that mine has been revoked. It's a mess indeed, I'm going to PM the gaffer who provided me with the illegitimate key for a mere $45 USD, and see if we can come to some sort of agreement.

Terrible way of handling this situation. I suspect most code redeemers purchased it via someone who obtained the keys illegitimately. Now buyers are out of pocket. I bet sellers have no repercussions.

"What did you expect when paying $35? etc etc"

Whatever.

It is a crazy situation, and this was probably a bad approach for MS to take, but let's keep in mind the real problem here are the thieves who stole all these codes and then sold them to the unknowing rest of us. I see too many people complaining about MS/Amazon/Nvidia and not enough criticism of the real assholes here.

(And for the record I paid $35 for my copy, which seemed like a legit price for a legit good, and this was before the Amazon glitch was public knowledge. People who paid freaking $7 obviously knew something was up.)

Microsoft should definitely be communicating this clearly to the victims, though. There's zero excuse for not doing that.

Revoking just makes people angry at you and not want to spend additional money on your product after getting scammed. Backlash incoming

The issue is nvidia isn't eating the hit for customers and the average customer can't tell the difference between the $20-35 keys and the $7 keys.
I saw keys for $30, then $20. Assumed $20 was just a great deal, got it. Saw $7, realized something has to be up, but was too late for my key by then, asked if it was error key, got a refund from him at request as a result.

That's not really the point though. MS/Amazon/NVIDIA isn't eating the cost, nor are the scammers- they've made hundreds, instead of amazon or whomever going after them off their associated info on the cancelled charges. The random consumer thinking they got a good deal of $30ish off is eating this if they didn't buy it on ebay, and that's not really right.

I promise they would have lost more money by us not buying their game at all vs half of us buying it on sale.

Why on Earth would you think this way? If someone stole your bike and sold it to your neighbor, do you just let the neighbor keep the bike because he paid for it?
