PSVR Review Thread

He said when leaning forward and backward the whole world was sliding around.
He said it moved artificially wouldn't moving backwards and forwards be you know the point the world would move backwards and forwards artificially? He didn't seem to suffer the constant in and out judder Jeff was having at all during that segment,

People get so personal about GB. It's like they have cult followers. I'm sorry I don't worship them as much.

There are dozens of positive reviews 8+ and 9+. Am I supposed to ignore them because GB said so ? Okay, I guess.

It's more like your "criticism" of them is complete bullshit, and your mind is already set on it being a perfect device so only reviews that confirm your bias are valid. Everyone else that thinks otherwise must be "jaded", of course.
Tracking issues are there, and are being reported by quite a few outlets.

Problem with reviewing tech like this, is there are so many variables with things like lighting, position of the camera and even how good the game is. So any problems some have had, are not always going to be the hardware's fault, plus if the hardware was really bad, all the reviewers would be having issues with it, no just a few of them.

Basically PSVR is not perfect but when setup correctly, it offers a pretty decent VR experience, especially for the price and most of the games seem decent so far, even if there is no true killer app right now, overall it seems mostly pretty positive though.
Yup.

PSVR seems to be a critical success, but I'm extremely curious to see if it will translate to commercial success.

There will be so many more variables when consumers get their hands on it and try to set it up at home.

You've ignored every other review as well no better than him honestly

We only need Angry Joe to step in and cause the final shitstorm
Ive learned the majority of this place doesn't like Joe for whatever reason so who's gonna protect him in this case lol

Why is it so hard to set up correctly? The one thing Sony needed to make idiot proof was the set up.

Any of these sites taking a swing at a 2/5 score for the clicks?

Assuming the majority is 8/10+

I see mentions of GB, guess I need to check on that...LOL

I mean, when they have video proof, you don't have to ignore it. They're not LYING about the jitter.

And it's kinda ironic they'd be the cultish ones considering they get death threats from Sony fans when they aren't 100% positive with their products. :P

I don't think people are suggesting they're lying about, the suggestion is that there is some interference in certain circumstances. I mean, Kotaku also saw it, but many sites and other users have not - so, it's not intrinsic to the device - something else is going on.

Expected worse impressions, but i'm still glad i cancelled my pre-order, i will wait for the tech to improve and be less expensive.

Thanks for the impressions. What's your favourite game so far? I probably won't jump on this until Resident Evil 7 is out but I'm curious what the standouts are for now

Erm, I don't really have a favourite game at the moment, but I did enjoy playing through the Until Dawn thing. I'm enjoying just jumping between all of the different experiences! :)

I haven't watched the Giant Bomb video -- I'm sure they're not talking through their arses. But they do seem to be a bit of an outlier.

All I can say is that I've used this thing for a week and I've been very impressed with it. It's definitely not perfect, but I've used worse first-generation products than this.

I linked it earlier, but I'll link it again. My full impressions:

Also some unedited gameplay I've just uploaded...

That's looking pretty good. Thanks for sharing.

Like others have said, they followed the manual specifications but they might be too far. Other places had the same problem so we'd have to know what their distance situation was like.

The problem I have though, is people outright dismissing that this could ever be a problem. Wouldn't you WANT to know every possible flaw about a product that you're spending more than $400 on? Even if it might never affect you personally?

This reminds me of the Uncharted 3 thread were so many people were shitting on a review because they get it less than a 9, AND NONE OF THOSE PEOPLE HAD EVEN PLAYED THE GAME YET.

This only happens with Sony products here, it's ridiculous, it shouldn't happen at all. This isn't Gamefaqs lol.

Having used Move quite a bit at the time, it's a really silly thing to do to stand up, walk forward and reach out to match the sphere to the outline - you match it up to calibrate for depth. Doing that then walking back and sitting down suggests you're too far back.

yo guys it's a Sony PlayStation device so it is perfect by definition

Reviews don't sound half bad, still too expensive for the hardware and lack of attractive software puts it on the same level as the other headsets. Bring on round 2

Is that's what is happening?

With some posters yea.

I mean, hey, even I have an opinion on GB (I sort of have to given that I'm on GAF and I don't listen to or watch their stuff).

But it's a review of a product. And people should be discussing the actual review/play-through rather then perceived slights against their favorite corporation or past "transgressions." Similarly, the other side is all about retorts against an us vs. them war as well.

It's the most pathetic thing to read about.

I agree with mostly of your post, but this final phrase isn't true:

We have fanboys off all colors. Just check the Skyward Sword Review Thread

Im sorry, but that's bullshit. I've seen it with almost every major game launch with some hype behind it on these boards.

Ah to be honest, I haven't checked out that thread, my bad.

Wouldn't surprise me though, Zelda fans are crazy. :P

I just can't remember the last game that got a 8.5 and people were almost universally shitting on the reviewer.

Edit: Other than the 8.8 Twilight Princess on Gamespot, brought to you by Mr. Gerstmann himself lol.

It's going to happen when it becomes a typical thing to say that holds no ground at all. Of course it's going to frustrate people. Especially when it somehow invalidates their impressions.

I've read the other reviews too. Tracking issues seem far from being rare if you read those reviews. Once again, no, it isn't GB that are "doing it wrong".
There is quite a difference between RoadToVR not thinking the sub-millimeter precision is quite up there as other high end desktop VR solutions and the amount of several centimeter jitter that GB is showing on stream.

Not an 8.5 but should I link you to the quantum break angry Joe review thread...

That's pretty sad. I dunno, I am pretty down on VR at the moment, mainly because of what games their are and I think this is about the same as the other offerings.

You've setup your room incorrect...just like kinect

With kinect if you setup everything perfectly the tracking was very good...but no one did

hmmm

I've seen it for 8s and shit for various games. I think about how sad it is almost every single time. It's not a Sony problem, it's a fanboy problem. You see it a lot on angry Joe review threads as well. People ignore an hour worth of his review and insult the guy because they don't like the score.

Not an 8.5 but should I link you to the quantum break angry Joe review thread...

This man knows.

Why is it so hard to set up correctly? The one thing Sony needed to make idiot proof was the set up.

Its not really hard, its plug and play really but the point is, there will be differences in the environment its placed it, which might cause issues and also human error too, lets face it, not everyone is the same when it comes to using tech and not everyone will read the instructions either.

Any VR games review? Need to know which launch title to pick up.
Yeah just a few
Thanks for posting the Push Square impressions -- I'm really satisfied with it. This isn't a perfect product, but the experience you get is still amazing.

There's also a video review if you prefer that kind of thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiTJSaViuPc

And some game reviews:

Any questions, I'll try to respond!

Given the how the positive reviews vastly outweigh the negatives, it's safe to say Sony did "idiot-proof" the hardware.

That won't prevent every instance of issues from occurring; no one is claiming PSVR is perfect, lol

As a long time GB fan, I can't remember the last time the guys all collectively appeared to enjoy themselves. Don't take it too personally.

The Digital Foundry video made it sound idiot-proof enough. Everything looks to be pictured, labeled, and numbered.
Set-up yes.

Calibration is not as idiot-proof or well explained as I believe can be currently seen on the GB stream (not that they are idiots, just that the system isn't showing the breaking point well or assists well enough) and from the Road to VR review.

Learning forward for a meter to pass the calibration and then leaning back should bring up a warning and not just start jittering.
