I both envy and do not envy you. hah

I keep saying I wanna do the doctorate after this, but the experience of writing the master's thesis has been one of the most draining and concentrated activities I have ever engaged in. If it is like this, what on earth is a dissertation going to be like? Or holy shit, what about a habilitation after that?!

What are you working in, and what is the topic if you do not mind my asking?

Dissertation is interchangeable for thesis in UK universities (or at mine it is anyway), so I'm currently undergoing a Masters degree, not a PhD. But yeah, the work I've done on this so far has definitely made me less tempted to undergo a PhD.

Damn that lines up pretty nice. It should be starting just as I get back home! I just hope for two things. The stream to actually stay up, have sound etc and generally be functional, but secondly, for Jared to actually be on the right camera feed.

Purchased Polaris. Melted a few ships to get it. Not sure why I feel the need to get it.

I know this sounds silly, but even though I'm an original backer and have put in about $100 into the funding of the game, I feel that the joystick (sadly, no good HOTAS for a lefty) I have is not good enough (Thrustmaster T.16000M). I feel super intimidated by getting back into this. Probably because the last time I played was dogfighting in the arena, since it was the only thing you could do. I hate this feeling of intimidation of playing something haha.

Do you think I should really get myself a better joystick/HOTAS to enjoy the game more?

Yeah, I'd assume so or else there would be quite an outcry on launch day.

They mentioned farming as one of the systems coming up in a later patch (3.3), and science in 4.0, so maybe the Endeavor isn't so far off after all.

I also melted some ships and got a CCU that I haven't applied yet (I will when it's flight ready). So not the only one. ;-)

Dont know why there wasnt any 2.6 gameplay either.
And unless they are really close at finishing that S42 mission, they should at least show some cutscenes or some facial tech etc to us.

Sorry i didn't follow the stream , as it was not at the right time for me. So they didn't show any new tech regarding the characters or environment , i am interested in those things rather than the game itself. I am just watching the archive stream and its only showing the sandstrom and sandworm gameplay. if you have any new links or gifs please post in here.Thanks

I may actually try this. For some reason, I'm afraid of doing so. Or afraid of not getting it right in terms of feel and what I wants as a control haha. But definitely seems like a more viable option. Is there a specific driver to use both without an issue or will it recognize that it is going to two different joysticks?
 
This all looks mighty impressive and ambitious as always, but didn't they say at Gamecom that this Con would be the blowout for SQ42 or at least more about that part? I was excited to see more about it, since the release might be imminent in the next half year...

Not that I didn't like what they showed, the Sandstorm was awesome! But it wasn't exactly a typical SQ42 mission either...

You are not even impressed by the demo they showed, even though its one of the biggest achievements in gaming in recent years.

Tell me one thing. If you think they are under-delivering, which other game approached what they did and in what time. And what were your original timeframe expectations for the game CIG is making?

I have bought a Constellation backing package, an Ebay Mustang Omega and a grey market LTI Super Hornet because I love the design and thought hat LTI was worth it if this game turned out to be what I hoped it would be at the end of 2014/ start of 2015. Would you call an euphoria fueled ~1000$ spending spree as being positive?

Most notably around the time the Starliner concept sale started. Cocktail mixing mini game? In flight movie theater simulation? For the benefit of AI passengers complete with health simulation, a flight attendant job market and whatnot? In a game that had back then and and today still has not shown any sign of non-hostile NPC bar some pretty static oir scripted figures?

No other game approaches what they promise. There is no game with that scope and there is no timeframe with that scope. Because turning their civil space flight I mention above fantasy into an engaging game alone could mean having a project as complex as any civil flight simulator. FSX in space? Hell yeah! But that, while at the same time promising FPS to beat the pop culture that is CoD, cinematic campaign, space MMO with trade, bounties, mining etc. pp.. Having backed in 2014, my original expectation was seeing progress throughout 2015. Yet, I saw ludicrous ship sales attached to concepts that had and have no connection to what they have been showing since 2014. To round all that off, there's the dishonest handling of Star Marine. First it's delayed indefinitely, then it's weeks not months away, then it's fallen under the table and backers please ought to stop bothering Roberts, as it's in the Alpha 2.0 anyway. But suddenly it's in 2.6, which is part of a plan to release a major patch per month throughout 2016. Was it in the game or wasn't it? Then they're selling scripted demos as progress for the MMO they initially promised.

Things didn't add up and they continue to not add up.

So you expected to game of this format to be released in a year with no dev team assembled. And additionally spent 1000$ just because you found it interesting.
Seems like you are more salty right now than reasonable due to spending so much money.

Development takes time, development of features that have not been done before can take unpredictable amount of time. They are making substantial progress every month, anyone who is clearly thinking or had some software development experience can tell you that.
