Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

Personally, I think that if I suppress my nostalgia for Generation 1, Generation Six has the best designs for the series;

Noibat line
Froakie line
Pancham line
Litleo
Vivillion (I loved the differing designs)
Skiddo line
Skrelp line
Inkay line
Clauncher line
Heliolisk
Tyrunt line
Amaura line
Sylveon
Goomy line
Xerneas
Zygarde
Hoopa

Ar all top tier Pokemon designs for me and I absolutely loved discovering and using all of them, really excited to see what else Generation 7 brings.

Agreed, think my list of faves from gen 6 would be:

Diggersby line
Viviliion line
Meowstic line
Slurpuff line
Barbaracle line
Noivern line
Heliolisk line
Hawlucha
Amaura line
Tyrunt line
Klefki
Trevenant line
Gourgeist line
and Xerneas

So what is the lasting thought on gen 6 right now?

Personally I loved a lot of the designs of the new mons, but it seemed like they did not make them all useful. Guys like Slurpuff and such though were awesome.

Gen VI is probably my least favorite generation. Most of the new mons for me were more on the meh to bad side for me and I gotta wonder if this is how some people felt about Gen V (which for me was some of the best mons). I definitely think more Mons could've fixed the problem since you could get some variability in there. X/Y was just an exercise in disappointment and ORAS was okay but it was very bare bones, not really something to save the Gen but it at least kept it from being straight terrible. I do like some of the ideas that were presented, Fairy types are great and I like how the Mega idea is being re-adapted into regional variants. Plus some of the features are a long time coming like Super Training.

I hope that in the future I'll look at Gen VI as the generation that had good mechanical ideas that just didn't pan out quite right but for now I still think the generation itself is a disappointment.

Edit:

Gen 6 Pokemon that I Really Like:

Chespin line
Greninja
Scatterbug
Vivillon
Pancham line
Espurr
Honedge line
Dragalge
Sylveon
Hawlucha
Noivern
Xerneas
Hoopa

I loved gen 6. I really liked all new designs (my team ended up being mostly Kalos mons), megas and other improvements; and X/Y pretty much singlehandedly brought me back into the franchise and I spent 120+ hours in it. ORAS I played less, but I still really enjoyed; I hope the dexnav or something like it is in gen VII because it made collecting actually appealing to me - it was as close to a game changer I've seen in a Pokemon game.

I can see why some people call it a disappointment though, specially after going back and playing B/W and B2/W2. It was a regression on some aspects (narrative wise, Kalos was a little uncohesive as a region, and despite me disliking most gen V designs I guess some people really like having tons of new pokemon), and ultimately despite how much I love it, I'll admit I don't think it's going to age gracefully because of those shortcomings. I'll definitely remember it positively though. I had a ton of fun with it.

Gen VI was a huge return to form after Gen V almost killed my interest in the series tbh. I really love it as a whole, even if ORAS were kinda disappointing remakes. XY in particular are probably my favourite Pokemon games at this point? I'm past 999:59 on my Y save, and have played through X twice now. I love Kalos as a region. I loved the massive regional dex which has made repeat playthroughs more fun than usual, and I love the jump to 3D models. It's also kind of ridiculous how many Kalos Pokemon have become all-time favourites. Like seriously:

Chespin, Fennekin & Froakie are adorable and my favourite set of first stage starters since Gen 1.
The Greninja line is my favourite starter in years, and has become an all-time favourite.
Talonflame, even aside from its competitive strength, is probably my favourite fully-evolved route 1 bird. Fletchling is also adorable as hell.
I generally don't like bug-types, but Vivillon is great, especially for an early game bug. Easily my favourite butterfly/moth design of the series, and I had a ton of fun collecting all of the patterns.
The Pangoro line has become one of my all time favourites and is the best bear design in the series imo.
Honedge & Aegislash are some of my favourite ghosts/inanimate object design.
Inkay & Malamar are cute and darkly cool respectively.
Heliolisk and Helioptile are standouts. I had been wanting a frilled-neck lizard Pokemon for years, and wasn't let down.
Dragalge is such an awesome design and I love that Dragon/Poison typing.
The fossils are easily the best in the series imo, and Tyantrum is particular is just amazing. Another all-time favourite.
Hawlucha is amazing and I'm still really annoyed he isn't in Pokken.
Barbaracle is hilariously ugly in a good way.
Clawitzer
Klefki is probably my favourite inanimate object design in the series. Love that little key thief.
Phantump is seriously one of my favourite designs in the series. Adorable, and that lore is dark as hell. Trevenant is also top tier, had been wanting a ghost tree for years.
The NOIVERN line is another all-time favourite, and my favourite Dragon type in the series bar none.
Yveltal, Xerneas and Zygarde are the best looking cover legends since Gen III. Loved that the reign of Dragon Gods had finally come to an end.

Half of my top 30 is probably Kalos designs. And then I love the improvements Gen VI brought to the table when it comes to the competitive side of things. The PSS is godly.

Gen VI is easily my favorite generation in terms of designs. So many top quality designs, and even at worst nothing is really bad, just eh at worst

yea i fully agree with you there, what it lacked in quantity it more than made up in quality. I don't mind smaller gens if it means top tier designs like gen 6 and from what we've seen of gen 7 they seem to be doing just as good if not better.

I'm still not too keen on Generation VI, I see what Game Freak was going for in many cases and I agree each Pokemon has a good uniqueness to it but they just don't resonate with me really---the anime helped me warm up to them, but honestly there were far more Generation V Pokemon I immediately took a strong liking to.

Thankfully Generation VII has given me a lot of designs I quickly took a liking to like Lurantis, Crabrawler, Bewear, and Oranguru.

I never really got into the whole obsessing over pokemon designs thing, so to me Gen 6 having less Pokemon just means it has less options for me which was disappointing. And as a big fan of Bug and Ground-type Pokemon, the only new ones being Vivillon's line and Diggersby sucked.

I really like a lot of Gen VI, but in my heart, I hold Gen III the most dear.

So many winners, from the starters all the way through the legends... It's hard to name favorites without listing most of the generation... In particular:

- Mawile (my numbah one)
- Sableye
- Mudkip line
- Nincada line
- Aron line
- Cover legends, especially Kyogre
- Carvanah line
- Trapinch line
- Beldum line
- The Regis

I'm going to wait and see how the Gen VII pokedex turns out. I'm still going to hope for around 102 new additions. The Addition of Alolan forms will help the gap more than it did for Gen VI. They've gotten pretty creative about all sorts of designs, so I just want to see what comes up next.

Gen 3's probably my favorite overall though.

The Game's likely to be damn good though.

Gen 4 has my favorite set of new Pokemon.

Yanma, Piloswine, Murkrow, Magneton, Sneasal, Snorunt, Cresselia, and eevee all got great evolutions.

I also really like a lot of the new Pokemon too The Turtwig and Piplup lines are up there as some of my favorite starters, the Starly line is my favorite early bird line, the Shinx line is awesome, and so on.

I'd say Gen 6 has my least favorite set of new Pokemon. There are a few gems but most of the Pokemon are awful and it stole the title of gen with the worst starters from Gen 5.

Apparently we got text rumors about what's in CoroCoro, with "The Riddler" (Chinese dude who seems to be in the know) reposting it...

Basically the Riddler translated it to Chinese and then folks on Bulbagarden translated it to English, basically unmasked Type: Null is Dark/Normal with Mold Break, Alolan Persian is Dark/Fairy, and there's an Alolan Ekans-line that's Fighting-type---we had a similar rumor about a Fighting-type Ekans last time around interestingly enough.
Dark/Normal Mold break is so boring. I hope it's fake.

Maybe I need to replay Gen VI someday cause I forgot pretty much every thing about it. I finished the game and just stopped playing after. Going to 3D was cool and there were some great designs but that's it.

Gen IV is still my fav. Didn't care much for HG/SS (fun, but made me realize how weirdly balanced Johto was, making grinding for the league a nightmare) but Platinum is my favorite game ever so...
Gen V is a close second.

I'll admit that gen 2 is still my favorite with most of my all time favorite pokemon being from that gen, that's not to say I don't have pokemon I absolutely adore from other gens like Ludicolo, Toxicroak, Golurk, and Hawlucha just to name a few from each one. Overall though Black 2 was a blast to play through and I wish the games moving forward were more like that and that's why I was so bummed with gen 6 in that it seemed like a huge step back, ESPECIALLY, in regards to the post game. The fact that there's no battle frontier is one of the biggest reasons for me not to purchase ORAS.

MY MAN

That game had the best designs in a very long time. So many likeable new Pokemons, like Pancham, Tyrunt, Noivern, Hawlucha and Talonflame. Greninja was also a cool final evolution and the starters all looked awesome. Thank god they came up with these designs in VI, because there was way too much trash in V, that one was just awful.

I'm not too exciting about the designs in VII though. It's lacking the charm from VI, but a lot of em are surely very odd looking. :d

I disagree with your thoughts on Gen V/VI, but I can appreciate the love for Gen IV. It often gets overlooked for mechanic reasons, but I loved the region and many of the Pokemon, even if it went a bit heavy on the legends.

best pokemon

I haven't been following SuMo that closely since I want to go in as blind as possible, but still got spoiled on Alola forms (because youtube thumbnail spoilers in my recommended videos). So the fact that Raichu got one means that there's no hope for a Mega Raichu right? A pokemon only gets one or the other?

I kinda wanted a Mega Raichu...

Right. It's highly unlikely that there will be any new megas.

Gen VI had excellent designs. Amazing Pokémon. But, I mean, there weren't very many of them :/ I wanted more and I think there's no argument that it would have been worse if there were more. Quantity and quality are NOT mutually exclusive.

Gen VI has my favorite starter and fossil of all time tho yeah it's an amazing gen design-wise.

I was disappointed too but sort of internally saw it as a reflection of their development cycle also including making every other Pokemon in 3D so I'll be dissapointed if this is another small gen (which it's rumoured to be).

Plus they're definitely purposefully condensing Pokemon into single number slots to keep the number from getting too big. Alolan Pokémon, Rockwolf, and Wishiwashi are all pretty clear examples of this. Alolan Marowak would have been a new Pokémon in Gen II.

I agree, and Gen 6 also has my all time favorite starter too, the starters were all great. I also loved the Aegislash line, Noivern line, and fossils among others. I feel like Gen 6 designs felt classic to me in a very gen 1 way, if that makes any sense.

Top 5 Starters

1. Chespin
2. Charmander
3. Squirtle
4. Bulbasaur
5. Totodile

I don't necessarily agree, but if they are doing that (trying to make fewer new Pokémon), then consider me to not be a fan of that direction.

I agree. The BIGGEST draw for me is new Pokemon in a new Pokemon game. You start dragging your feet on that and you lost me. Alolan forms definitely should be expanded with each new game, but they can't go low like Gen6.

Just not interested in additional shit when I buy a Remake for the Nostalgia.

Wait, you were being serious?

HGSS have basically no faults besides the level curve. I didn't play the originals, but HGSS is probably the best set of games overall in my book.

Remakes are for Pokemon fans, not those who say "the old pokemon are the only good ones"

And it's not called Heart Silver

Man every time this thread gets bumped I get mildly excited thinking CoroCoro is starting to leak (insert dudelookingintofridge.gif here) Cmon internet, Zyrox needs his Pokémon fix.

Hope we get a little more than just info on Type: Null.

There's not a good reason to expect Raichu to get a Mega evolution because of how Sun/Moon is shaping up. But I don't think there's any reason to believe that Megas and Alolan forms are mutually exclusive.

That's a shame that they haven't shown any new megas, I don't want them to be a dropped feature after Game Freak spent forever hyping them up. It would be interesting for a pokemon to get both however.
