"Zero excuse"... So you're saying that someone creating a piece of art literally doesn't have the right to deliver their own vision? Obviously you're not referring to any actual legal requirements as there are none, so you must be saying there is some kind of universal moral imperative that any creator must obey regardless of what they actually feel like making?

I cannot stand this kind of entitled attitude. "How dare anyone create something that doesn't prescribe to my particular sensibilities!" Here's the thing: you can absolutely be disappointed if it's not what you wanted. Everyone has preferences, and you should absolutely tell a company that you are interested in (your preferred experience here). They might even do that at some point. But there is a difference between saying "I'm super disappointed this doesn't have a female protagonist! I would have really liked that" and "Fuck you dev you slimy racist bastards how dare you make the game you want and not the one I want!". That's the problem. The complaint is always that it's wrong that they didn't make what you wanted, which is the definition of entitlement.

This angers me because I want to have the freedom to make what I want to make. I don't want to be yelled at because I told a story that was on my heart, but it wasn't exactly what someone else would have created. The greatest works of art come from creators expressing their visions, because it's a story they have to tell, a picture they have to paint, music they have to write.

There is a TON of media that doesn't interest me. Things like the Saw movies disgust me. I think the world would probably be better off without that, so should I campaign to have those banned? Should I form an oversight committee to govern the direction of a sequel so that it's something I want? Or should I leave the creative direction to the people who actually wanted that to begin with?

Rockstar committed a grave sin here by releasing a picture that only has men in it, which means this is clearly going to be a horrible sexist game, right? So I'm curious. Would you go back in time and complain about Seven Samurai because the leads are men? I mean, that's seven lead characters and they are all men. That's bad, right? And yet, for some reason, as summarized by Wikipedia:

It almost seems like it might have actually been a good movie with a good story despite starring only men. How about The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings? Some of the greatest, most influential works of fiction in history, and they predominantly star men. Do you know why? Because these are the stories and the characters that the creators wanted to create.

Here's the truth: there are a lot of video games, that feature all manner of characters. Are there not as many representing what you are looking for? Here's an idea. Don't demand a creator change their vision to match yours. Instead of bitching about it, go make the game you want. That's what I'm doing. I will enjoy what media I enjoy, and will add what I think is missing.

I can obviously see it coming at a later date, but man, this is why I'll always choose consoles over a gaming PC. Can't be waiting for that Rockstar goodness!

it's why i own both a console and a PC. play the game day 1 and then get it again to play with better performance/graphics. can't wait for Redemption 2 at 4K 60fps.

This on Pro and Scorpio will be stunning, I'm hoping for some sort of VR use also, even if it's something like an online VR high noon shoot out game.

Just wishing - I hope they tone down John Marsten's dialogue, if he is the protagonist and they have the same VA. Part of the reason I put down RDR and never went back was just that his dialogue felt too altruistic and awkward in delivery. I get that he was trying achieve redemption, but it just made him feel more hollow that his voice and delivery wasn't more reflective of his regret for his past.

I know, I know, we have no idea of what the game is composed of, but I just want to think out loud.

Same here. Sorry Rockstar, I'm not buying this game until it's out. I'm on to your little games.
"GTA V is specifically optimized to play on these consoles [X360 and PS3] any other rumors are just that- rumors."

I have a feeling like without THE BENZ this game is going to be a boring, monotonous mess like V but we'll see!

R* did a great job with the GTA 5 PC port, so I will be very surprised if this doesn't come to PC too. I guess they might do the same thing as last time, finish the console versions then work on the PC version after, so they can deliver another solid PC port.

If not, then I will just get it on PS4 Pro, as I ain't buying a Scorpio just for 1 game.

I needed to read a post like this. Its unbelievable how entitled people are.
You dont like the game? Dont buy the fucking game.
If you have a vision go ahead and develop it; stop telling artists how should they do it smh
Consider how Neil Druckmann said how Anita's work influenced The Last of Us and Uncharted (among other devs and games)

It's not about telling developers what to do and forcing them to include or not include but about encouraging more representation and breaking free of old stereotypes (ie woman and people of color not being outlaws and lawbringers in the west)

PC port of GTAV came with great delay when looking at original or even remastered release. Cynical part of me says delay was intentional in order to encourage 2-3x dipping, same most likely happens here too.

That's not being cynical at this point. That's just looking at it straight.

They could do anything with the story, but they're telling the story they want to tell with the characters they want to write. The quality can range from a dumpster fire to fantastic, the quality isn't the point.
well, quality is what's important to me personally. i like a game with a good story. that's subjective. the rest is on them with the story they want to tell and it's subject to opinions like mine.

Why does it matter if there's a female character or not? I play games to enjoy them, I don't care if I enjoy them with a bunch of white dudes or a bunch of native females, as long as the games fun, why does it matter?

Honestly, I love how people are so upset about this and we haven't even seen the trailer yet. All we've seen is a couple of pics. Maybe there is a female character that hasn't been shown yet?

So much entitlement, so little patience.

no doubt but i wouldn't be surprised if Scorpio is held back by PS4 Pro. Scorpio is going to be considering more powerful than PS4 Pro.

Sure, they delayed their PC version of GTA5. But the trade-off was pretty fair, given that the old gen version of GTA5 was a marvel, and how they put an immense amount of effort in their PC port.

Well, makes sense because no other Red Dead was ever launched on PC - not a smart business decision to make thou.

But they need to make online cross-play beteween plataforms. For fuck sake, the only major tittle we only have is Rocket League. Do something, Rockstar.

Glad I have a console to play this on without needing to wait over a year (or forever) for a PC port. I don't mind double-dipping down the line during a Steam sale.

i mean, consider that rockstar has made like...16(?) games that could be reasonably described as having an important story and only one of them has had a main woman character, and that's only because it was based on a property that already had a female protagonist. at some point you have to begin to wonder whether 'they're just making good stories they want to tell!' cuts the mustard as a reason for why they're completely blind to the existence of 50% of the population.

it doesn't. some people just like to get upset and offended.

Because representation is a good thing. Simple, really.

It's not entitlement to want diversity in media.

I really thought they would name it something other than Redemption again. Still, not surprised giving the success of the first game.

Just to remind us it's 2016 and we can't get excited about a video game without the obligatory discussion on white male privilege and lack of diversity In character casts.

Can't wait for this game. I'll be there day one, no matter what. I can still complain about the lack of diversity being shown.

It is obviously a topic that is important to a lot of people. And nothing changes or gets better by ignoring it.

isn't not buying a game telling the artists what they should do

it doesn't. some people just like to get upset and offended.

Diversity in media doesn't matter? With attitudes like this it's no wonder gaming is so far behind the curve. People get overly defensive and trying to shut down any conversations about their precious games and hobbies are pathetic.

Read a history book?

And just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it can't work. It's all in the execution

And that

just most guys in gangs are sexist, there bad guys, they wouldn't treat female the same thats obvious to anybody that know about history, even in the butch cassidy gang, you notice she doesn't have pic with the gang. my favorite movies are mafia.gangster movies, i just never seen it happen, just shows you even a director doesn't think it will work.

Why are people praising this post like it anything other then a long winded version of the "Don't like it? Then make your game." argument?

Yeah I've read that post numerous times and can't see why it's getting praised so much.

this is fucking crazy.

Ms. Mcfarlane in the last red dead was a pretty great character, so they clearly do acknowledge them.

Honestly, it's there story to make. Quit trying to tell them what to do.

Does anyone remember GUN? GUN was a good game.

I enjoyed it for the five or so hours it lasted.

Dude, the actual female outlaws were usually more respected or revered than their male counterparts. They were exceptional fucking people in their time, and they made people respect them.

But it is also the height of entitlement to tell people to shutup and stop criticizing? As someone who has now offered multiple lengthy posts to suggest the sad realities surrounding Rockstars games not once have I felt this desire to tell people to shutup? I pointed out what I felt may be good intentions, that simply get met with the cold, hard, uncaring realities surrounding making money and marketing. That isn't personal hostility to other GAFers though, which I feel outrage at their outrage occasionally borders on.

You can have laudable intentions surrounding diversity, but ultimately not get anywhere with a behemoth like Rockstar and its shareholders/investors. Rockstar are top of the foodchain with financing, this isn't like asking Ubisoft to do a female AC on a reasonable budget.

What Rockstar really need to do is stop obsessing over making everything GTA, and diversify their gaming lineup by doing other titles on far more reasonable budgets. Square knocked it out of the park supporting LiS as initially only a digital title on a reasonable budget, and then a physical release. A better example may be TR, which has a higher budget, and still brings success. Although we can't ignore Square calling the first TR reboot a failure as it didn't reach 5 million sales.
