The PC port begging/whining in this thread is annoying. Given rdr1 which had no pc version at all, and gta v which made pc gamers wait a year and a half, what were people expecting?

The REAL question we should all be asking is how the game can possibly be inclusive without the addition of the the Benz. Frankly, in 2016, a game without Benz is not something I want to see.

We all know it'll suck without the Benz.

Creators have exclusively the responsibility of creating the story they want to create- if they want write and develop characters representative of minorities like GTA3, or women like TR that's great; but it's something they want to make, it's the stories they want to tell.
If the story they want to tell is the same old over done story, (like in most Rockstar games except without good pacing), then they have a right to tell it but also have a right to be criticized.

About time they officially announced! I see they omitted PC from their announced platforms; they're gonna GTA V the fuck outta this thing aren't they?

Anyone else wish they have waited until E3 to announce?

I don't need a one-year lead time, and unlike Sony/MS there's no need to sell the buying public on "what's coming down the pipe" on their consoles.

Who are you talking to? What are you talking about? Did I say that nobody can criticize the writing? The problem with white bread characters is that it gets repetitive after a while, the lack of variety; and I get that as a critique.

Oh for god's sake just choose your games accordingly if race and gender is such an issue to you. You have a black protagonist for Mafia 3, asian dudes for Sleeping Dogs and Yakuza, a teenage white girl for Life is Strange, an half black half white woman in Remember Me... all of which (bar Mafia which I haven't played yet) I have enjoyed A LOT, despite being a white male. Why is that such an issue I'll NEVER understand

Can't believe I just read some shit like this on GAF, of all places.

well, first it was news outlets picking up on it. then it was naughty dog responding.

if it goes the same way, some outlets will pick up on the arguments being made in this thread and create news articles about it, and it'll get enough buzz for rockstar to comment.

Rockstar either won't comment, or it will be some "Rockstar appreciates all topics surrounding gender and race and continues to create critically acclaimed titles". Thinking they'll say or do anything else is wishful thinking.

Even when it's fully unveiled who you are playing as, and if it's multiple characters, Rockstar will know like most games they do they'll get inundated with criticism. They don't care though, or for a more nuanced look at why that is check my initial 4~6 posts in this topic. The mainstream media has always gone after them. Albeit it mostly for violence, but some of that racial related as well.

They'll have to stop doing late ports at some point, either because the sales aren't there or the sales are too much to ignore. Probably the latter.

But what's concerning about RDR2 not coming to PC (at least for now) is that the first one didn't either, so some think that Rockstar SD might stay out of putting the series on PC altogether.

I think the sales will always be there for one of Rockstar's flagship games though, and Rockstar knows it too. Also, suppose it helps in taking the risk when worse case scenario is still dozens and dozens of millions of copies sold on the consoles and at least a few million copies of the PC version at a later date.

*opens GAF for the first time today, reads this*
OMG.. a year away but damn I'm so happy this is happening finally

They already nailed the totally visceral feeling of the guns(and their physics) from that era so I can't wait to see how they expand on that feeling.

Giving it the wrong number.

Staggered release again, trying to get PC gamers to double dip.

Not feeling it.

Edit: Is there more info released than I know about, or is everyone assuming the characters on the cover are the main characters?

That Rockstar might have become better developers and could release a PC version alongside the console versions? Dunno.

I think its funny that people still think this, and every single a game a Rockstar company makes past gta v, won't feature a micro laden giant multi mode. Money talks, we'll just be lucky that/if the sp isn't a tutorial for the multi.

The Redeeming Seven.

but why not wait for PSX , as it is rumored to be the part of Sony E3 . Is microsoft has the marketing now / things changed ? The timing of the announcement don't make much sense to me .

The Force Awakens.
Oh. Would have never gotten there with the way you described it hehe :P I'll add that they did a great job too! Loved the new cast to bits! :)

Star Wars

Yup, yup. Didn't quite get there with the way the user described it :P My bad, my bad.

Which one? Just curious, don't mean anything by it. Really not ringing any bells for me, so maybe I haven't seen it. If it's that good I kinda have to :P

Made a shit ton more money than GTAV so creators really have no excuse to be apprehensive about minority protagonists at this point. And if they do, they can tell the alt right/gg and the lite versions of them to fuck off and say "this is the story we wanted to tell, you have no issue with pointing that out when it's a game about a gruff white bearded dude, so you should have no problem with this."

Was the BENZ involved in RDR1?

The BENZ saved RDR1:

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/red-dead-redemption-a-recurring-nightmare-during-d/1100-6438770/

In the lawsuit, Benzies' legal team is trying to establish how vital he was to Rockstar's operations. One example provided was how Benzies stepped in to help finish Red Dead Redemption, despite having no official position on the game. The game was in development at Rockstar San Diego under the direction of Rockstar co-founders Sam and Dan Houser.

"As Sam Houser himself recognized, the Houser brothers were incapable of completing large and complex games without Mr. Benzies' oversight, management, and skill in taking unwieldy designs and making an understandable, cohesive, and enjoyable game," reads a line from the lawsuit.

In October 2009, with a deadline coming up, Sam Houser became anxious about Red Dead Redemption not being in good enough shape. He wrote an email to Benzies that month, saying, "The ups and downs are VERY extreme. We have to fix this. Quickly. Help! I'm freaking!'"

The very next day, Sam Houser sent another email to Benzies further elaborating on the game's problems at the time and how he wanted Benzies to assist.

"This [RDR] is a (recurring) nightmare," Sam Houser said. "But one i/we need to get out of. I have problems with the camera all over the place. So much so, that I can't be rational or specific about it. The darkness!!!"

"PLEASE help me/us get rdr [Read Dead Redemption] into shape. I am a jabbering wreck right now," he added. "I need The Benz!'"

The lawsuit goes on to claim that after Benzies stepped in to help, Rockstar San Diego completed work on the game "within a few months," getting it ready to show to partners such as Sony and Microsoft.

tech discussion

The tech part is really exciting. We were talking earlier this week in another thread about the fact they got GTA V to run on essentially 2005 hardware. What are they going to come up with now that they have:
- 2013 hardware
- a lot of experience from developing the remasters
- ubiquitous Blu-Ray drives?

The possibilities are mind-boggling.

From interviews they said that the first development stage is to work out scope. Just how much can they achieve and to what depth. I bet that was an interesting season.

I'm dying because of all the arguments for years where people said "It's Red Dead 3!"

I'm excited, however I am going to complain that on a poster with seven characters, they're ALL men. Cmon rockstar

With this being a full on PS4/XB1 game I fully expect this level of grit:

Red-Dead-Redemption.jpg

to increase by like, 200% :P Prepare for the gritiest of digital grits bros!

Wow, the textures hold up much better in my memory :D Can't wait to see what they can pull off with their first current-gen-only game!

Oh man, yeah I totally forgot even GTAV was originally created to fit on a regular ol' DVD. That's crazy.

I hope all the extra power goes to the best cloth physics evaaaa

Not to the point of making them morally obliged to do it, because apparently it's what some people here are trying to say.

Are they morally obligated? No. They're not morally obligated to do anything. But this is what, their 8th game since GTA3, and they still haven't included a female protagonist atleast once?

And when asked about it, they said "Well, it's gotta be right..." but apparently it's always the right time for a white dude? Or several dudes (one of which is a person of color, so, y'know, it's not like their racist or anything!)

And the defense that the trailer could still show off a significant female character - how significant could she be if she couldn't make a poster with seven dudes?

Outrage is basically on the list of words that automatically make your post shit. It means literally nothing at this point. Please provide an objective metric showing the level of emotional response from people favoring more diversity in games exceeds the emotional response of those offended by the talk of inclusion or anything else. You can't. It's fucking tales from your ass. You're pouting because people are discussing something you don't want them to discuss. If it makes you less triggered, just pretend the posts discussing potential diversity in the cast of the game are saying "Day 1!!!" or "pre-ordered" or "why the PC delay!? They want that double-dip money." I'm sorry you were forced to see opinions that differ from yours - the true outrage.

I have absolutely no issue with people discussing diversity in games. Diversity is important period. You're jumping to assumptions about what I think based on one post, which is my fault for being a dick in the first place. The only thing I'm objecting is the outrage over the diversity conversation of the game when we know nothing at this point. On Thursday it might be relevant to have that discussion but right now in this thread it's too soon as far as I'm concerned. I see I'm being quoted a lot so I hope that clears up my position on this

Who are you talking to? What are you talking about? Did I say that nobody can criticize the writing?
Saying "it's the story the creator wants to tell" is just an attempt to shut down discussion entirely, rarely does anyone ever deny or assume that a story isn't what a creator wanted to tell. So there's really no point in pointing it out. Whatsoever.

RDR looks phenomenal on Xbox One, even today. I can't wait to see what RDR2 is going to look like.

Also, let's stop with the PC port begging. It'll come to PC eventually. Maybe. :p

Rockstar games are big enough that they don't need to be announced at a gaming event press conference, certainly not at PSX come on.

Rockstar don't care for E3 or press conferences in general for the most part, they are big enough that them just announcing one of their games becomes an event that will get immediate attention, and all them announcing it there would have done would overshadow everything else. I'm fine with them doing it this way.
