The tech part is really exciting. We were talking earlier this week in another thread about the fact they got GTA V to run on essentially 2005 hardware. What are they going to come up with now that they have:
- 2013 hardware
- a lot of experience from developing the remasters
- biquitous Blu-Ray drives?

The possibilities are mind-boggling.

From interviews they said that the first development stage is to work out scope. Just how much can they achieve and to what depth. I bet that was an interesting season.

funnily, i still find RDR a more visually enticing game than GTA V.
I can only imagine the skyboxes, weather effects(!!! ... imagine Mad Max like sandstorms and thunderstorms), and - most importantly - horse thigh physics they'll be able to create.

This will certainly be another masterpiece.

it's shitty people actually feel the need to bring all of this up. It's a work of FICTION set into a FICTIONALISED wild west. I don't need any 'historically accurate' reason to ask the most influential studio of our time "how about some of them female protags / sidekicks?".

Rockstar either won't comment, or it will be some "Rockstar appreciates all topics surrounding gender and race and continues to create critically acclaimed titles". Thinking they'll say or do anything else is wishful thinking.

Even when it's fully unveiled who you are playing as, and if it's multiple characters, Rockstar will know like most games they do they'll get inundated with criticism. They don't care though, or for a more nuanced look at why that is check my initial 4~6 posts in this topic. The mainstream media has always gone after them. Albeit it mostly for violence, but some of that racial related as well.

nah, rockstar ain't afraid to back themselves up. they can of course ignore all of this, but just like with every GTA released, they always say "don't like GTA? don't buy it, then."

I haven't played GTA V yet. For those that played both GTA IV and GTA V, are the mechanics (shooting, driving, melee combat) a large improvement?

Do we think Rockstar can make great improvements to the mechanics of the first Red Dead? I didn't find those mechanics a huge problem, but also at the time I didn't know better, as I didn't have much experience with third person shooters. I did like the "Dead Eye" mechanic though, and hope it comes back.

You all should watch this little video Polygon did on Marston's voice actor, Rob Wiethoff. That he was basically a "nobody" in the acting world and did such a fantastic job as Marston is pretty amazing. Doesn't hurt that he seems like such a good guy.

https://youtu.be/_NuYx8oP_S8

Hope he does well with this next game (and hopefully other roles).

The PC port begging/whining in this thread is annoying. Given rdr1 which had no pc version at all, and gta v which made pc gamers wait a year and a half, what were people expecting?
A non-staggered release like most every other AAA dev does?

Also, what else would you like to discuss? We know nothing about the game.

You're literally just complaining about what other people are saying.

Game is going to be insane on Scorpio. So extremely hyped.

Wants:

- More fleshed out hunting activities. Hunting was my favorite part of the first game.
- FPS mode like we saw in GTAV
- Improved shooting system/mechanics, which is pretty much a given
- Return of Undead Nightmare in some form
- More variety with side activities in the open world. I can't remember everything that was available in the RDR but I remember wishing there was more to do outside of the hunting and main story missions. A robust bounty hunting system that's endless would be excellent.

Also six white people and one black person on that poster.

It's like market research decided 14% is close enough to actual US demographics and they just roll with that, I'm interested in finding more examples of the 1/7th rule now. The new Magnificent Seven movie probably qualifies.

What makes you think you are entitled to a PC version. This is Rockstar's vision and they should be allowed to make the game for whatever platforms they choose. They don't owe you anything. Tired of this PC outrage.
Well I mean their games especially their last one has sold millions on PC so there are a ton of fans on that platform. I'm sure you wouldn't be happy if they just left out your platform of choice with it maybe coming over a year later to it.

The issue I have is if many other big companies can release a PC version same day I believe that Rockstar could do it. It comes off that they can get a lot of people to buy twice when they see improvements to the game in the PC version. Oh well as long as it turns out as good of a port as GTA V. Excited to check it out in 2019.

I'm dying because of all the arguments for years where people said "It's Red Dead 3!"

I'm excited, however I am going to complain that on a poster with seven characters, they're ALL men. Cmon rockstar

It is still red dead 3 aka redemption 2, its the third one in the series

It's even better on the Xbox One. I'd recommend that above the old consoles if someone wanted to go back.

I still intend to buy it and replay the game there.

But yeah, it was still incredible on PS3.

No point mate.

Yeah especially as they will have PS4 Pro and Scorpio dev kits or launch consoles already and in development. Can you imagine what they can pull off. GTA V blew me away. As did Red Dead Redemption. Cannot wait. I wish they increae the number of random crimes. Make them dynamic. So that they always update or change. Would make me more invested to keep playing beyond campaign. Just screwing around in GTA V and you come across a No Country For Old Men type scenario etc.

For example, I know many people complain about the shooting mechanics in many Rockstar games (maybe except for Max Payne 3), so I'm wondering if this game is gonna have improved mechanics?

I thought the shooting was great in RDR. Felt damn good to pop off headshots, knee cap, disarm and to shoot hats off. GTAV was a bit of a backwards step, I think; hit locations (is that the term?) seemed to be missing. Hopefully, they take RDR's shooting and drop in some Max Payne 3 class.

Man, I'd love to see dual wielding implemented.

Ooo, I just thought: I wonder how they'll handle duels? I really liked the mechanics and didn't see any better way to handle it... then CoJ: Gunslinger came out. I wonder if they'll take anything from there.

Yeah but that backing up is the PR equivalent of "no comment". As in it'll be something along the lines of what I posted. They aren't going to release a 1000 word blog post about their development, how diverse their studio is and give all the nuanced reasons as to why they target the demographics they do and how much each shareholder has personally put forward to fund RDR2 and how much of a return they expect back.

Amusing response to port begging that is platform agnostic. I'm equally tired of these responses and even my own response challenging the response! But I thought you'd enjoy the sweet irony for a moment

Improvement?

Kind of interested but after liking the setting RDR wore thin on me. Too many missions that felt like R* staples that weren't that fun with their usual mix of open world vs linear narrative dissonance.

But I do like the setting so still interested: gonna skip console release though at least initially until I see what plans for PC are. No way am I double dipping due lack of information.

Red Dead Online will ruin everything, isn't it?

Were you able to try Online in RDR? I was surprised, I thought it was actually really good. It certainly didn't seem to detract from the excellent singleplayer, but it was fun to have a lot more to do once you were done with the story.

God yeah. Good call on Mad Max. If that's what we got from an A-list developer, imagine what we'll get from the AAA-est of AAA developers.

I'm glad Assassin's Creed Syndicate went pretty hard on diversity at least. It wasn't perfect but it was good.

I enjoyed RDR way more than I expected since I've never been into westerns. Looking forward to seeing where they take this one.

Hope Rockstar keeps improving and building on the momentum from GTAV. Maybe there's more to learn about the amount of diversity in the game and in the cast.

Are they morally obligated? No. They're not morally obligated to do anything. But this is what, their 8th game since GTA3, and they still haven't included a female protagonist atleast once?

And when asked about it, they said "Well, it's gotta be right..." but apparently it's always the right time for a white dude? Or several dudes (one of which is a person of color, so, y'know, it's not like their racist or anything!)

And the defense that the trailer could still show off a significant female character - how significant could she be if she couldn't make a poster with seven dudes?

Three, actually.

What's a PCW?
Personal computers warriors man, so tired of them, in every thread man, they should just let the creators do with they want and stick to their vision or make the PC port themselves. So entitled, ugh.

Also six white people and one black person on that poster.

Yet the two leads get more screentime and importance than anyone else in the film itself. The format is like older starwars posters, (which includes the entirety of the main cast).

Night and day. The combat in particular was excellent in GTAV. Esepcially in FPS mode. Loved the weapon customization and in general the combat felt great.

I expect a massive upgrade/improvement in all areas for RDR2. Exciting stuff.

this was one of the points in the redlettermedia review that people flipped out over. It's pretty blatant though when you look.

For artists at this point in time it probably is best to just create a checklist, or to adhere to an acceptable ratio of ethnicity and gender when creating a cast. Just to avoid this kind of thing from happening.

It's become clear that any real, or perceived, misstep can and will culminate in this type of indignation from consumers. Even if the previous entry in the serious had a wonderful female protagonist, in the case of Red Dead Redemption.

Saying "it's the story the creator wants to tell" is just an attempt to shut down discussion entirely, rarely does anyone ever deny or assume that a story isn't what a creator wanted to tell. So there's really no point in pointing it out. Whatsoever.

You're incorrect, pointing out that the characters and narrative are as the writers wish them to be is a rebuttal to the idea that they have or need a reason to tell the story they're telling.

RDR looks phenomenal on Xbox One, even today. I can't wait to see what RDR2 is going to look like.

Also, let's stop with the PC port begging. It'll come to PC eventually. Maybe. :p

Some of you need to learn the definition of begging. Begging and having interest in a game that you want to come to your platform of choice are far from the same. Just stop

Ughhhhh this is the worst. Treating women like some kind of mythical creature that can't be touched until the time is right. Like jesus just listen to a woman speak for 10 minutes. They're just people. As smart, as funny, as dumb, as flawed as anyone. Some writers like Tarantino don't even attempt to make his females sound like anything but another Tarantino character, and nobody cares because it's fun to listen to them.

What is it, some kind of fear that they'll "get it wrong"? Or, like, strange women phobias? Or just the sentiment that woman can't be funny, or crude, or mean, or whatever?

Really surprised that it's not gonna release on PC alongside consoles. Pretty disappointed. Though I guess by then I'll pick up a Scorpio or a PS4Pro.

Very excited. Now I feel the need to go play Red Dead Redemption on my Xbox One. Loved the first. So amazing.

As for no female playable characters, yeah I can understand the outrage. Rockstar doubled down it seems after the criticism of no playable female characters in GTAV. Rockstar has always seemed to be very male focused on their story telling for their central characters. Its not that they forget but its rather intentional that they focus on guys.

As for racial diversity, I am sure there were some Hispanic/Latino in the gang since the region suggests. Lets wait for a trailer. The poster doesnt say much.

It not being released on PC right away is both funny and aggravating because we won't hear the end of it from the master race even though port begging is banned. It honestly should just launch across all three platforms at the same time. People holding out for NX however will likely sink to the bottom of the ocean.

While I really liked the game design and gameplay of Red Dead Redemption, I ultimately got bored once I got to Mexico in that game. I feel like I didn't give the game much of a chance, and after loving GTV, I feel like I owe it to myself to give this series another shot.

I don't think it'll be delayed but this is the delay generation. Take your time Rockstar.

Best wishes.

Lol, you guys have no reason to be upset just because you know you'll be playing the game when it comes out.

No reason to also shit on the people who won't be able to play it.

It's amusing to me that most people don't know what the bannable part of port begging is.

It's bannable in situations where it derails threads. In this case, this us literally a game announcement thread for a dev who has had PC game releases of all but like two of their previous games, with no other info and a bunch of people arguing about diversity based on silhouette art.

Trailer thread will come out, and nobody will ever remember this thread.

Now, complaining about the lack of a PC version in the OT...

Oh my god, YES! Duels were amazing in RDR.

Now that you mention CoJ: Gunslinger... That game has been on my "watch list" for quite some time. Would you recommend it? How's the Old West setting handled there?
