The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

Out of all Wii U games, I especially expect this one to never leave the system it was made for.

Look at Nintendo 3DS. It has a lot of games by third-party and indie games which greatly compliments Nintendo's offerings, yet it's not the same as mainstream third-party support by Western publishers as seen on home consoles.

3ds was cheap to develop for, the nx isn't

To hopefully spark some better discussion, what do you all think will happen to Nintendo's smaller projects like box boy and Rusty's real deal baseball when every game is slated to come to an HD console? Also consider that there likely won't be a Mario Kart 7 and 8 situation, so it's likely we get more experimental games and new IPs.

Do you guys think we'll see more of those small, relatively low budget offerings or more risky medium budget experimental titles? Or more of both?

Can someone refresh my memory, for the last direct that was 3DS focused, how long before the direct did they announce that the direct was coming? If we are assuming we're hearing something this week, I wonder if they would use a similar announcement timeline.

I'm going to note in advance once again by noting that I really wish that we could stop focusing our attention so much on Emily Rogers. With that out of the away, let me ignore my own advice and talk some more about this situation.

I think part of the issue with her reporting is simply that she's not a real journalist and as such doesn't know how to properly vet or contextualize information. But as you note, I also think it's unfair to suggest that she's a complete fraud. I don't think that she outright makes things up or misleads audiences. Further, this is one of those situations where I find myself banging my head up against a desk because it never ceases to amaze me how counterproductive people can be sometimes. And by that I simply mean that I don't understand how people can react to an Emily Rogers rumor with a sentiment like "why are we listening to this bullshit con artist who has never been right about anything ever!?!?" and then still seemingly wait with bated breath for the latest rumor to be proven wrong.

"I know she's wrong, but I'm going to pull up a chair here and wait for her to be proven wrong so I can remind everyone that she's always wrong!" This is not how you should behave. If you're a sane person and you think someone else is unreliable, then you should either ignore them or actually take anything they say with a grain of salt and not just claim that you're taking what they say with a grain of salt.

See also: Michael Pachter threads. Pachter goes on record making a dubious prediction, someone makes a thread about it, and people fall over themselves trying to get in some clever "this guy is never right about anything why do we give a shit what he has to say?" response. And then you realize that it's one of the most active threads of the day and part of the reason why is because people can't help themselves from having to take shots at him. Whereas if people started actually ignoring him instead of just passive aggressively suggesting that we should ignore him, he might become a less tantalizing figure to try and make sound bites out of.

It's that middle school mentality of wanting to be the funny guy/gal who says the mean thing everyone laughs at. Because being mean is an easy avenue toward gaining acceptance from peers. "I hate this thing, who is with me?"

It's a cheap shot and it's tiring.

Thank you for the post and I hope people will read and learn from it.

What happened to those guys, all banned?
What the poster below you says. I was bemoaning where we currently are in speculation. We just aren't in crazy patent examining and piecing together rumors with viable tech phase anymore, for the most part. This kind of thread is less fun imo.

They announced it two days before, which is pretty standard for them.

I don't even understand where you're going with this.

I think the nx will have good 3rd party support, maybe not like ps4, but more like xb1.

+ Their own games.

I don't believe in a own support + Indie support, it just wouldn't sell that good.
NX development costs are still high to make exclusives for it.

I think Nintendo their plan is to replace the 3ds, but also the wiiu because of the bad sales. Because next gen is already out for 2/3y it wouldn't work if they bring the same console on the market to get back in race. Solution -> handheld, ps4 games could be ported and many people want ps4 games on the go.

So that way they can wait untill the ps5 is released to release their new console too. It's the only way to survive. It fits the story

While two days is pretty much a standard timespan, didn't they once announce a Direct a week before it had actually happened? (I'm not talking about Directs announced within Directs, like the upcoming Animal Crossing one.)

Oooh, trust me - many people at Nintendo are aware of the ongoing insanity. I don't know for the highest of higher-ups, but I believe they are laughing at us too.

Nah, if they were aware, they would make a joke about it on the official Nintendo account, using it as a positive PR and sending a "we are hearing you" signal to the fans. Right now it feels they just ignore their fans, so they don't know.

They already did that by posting a Zelda video about an Axe....

Those games doesn't sell the system, it's also not exclusive

Only very few isolated games sell systems - libraries and guaranteed ongoing supports do. Not everything has to be an exclusive system-seller.

I hope you dropped the /s.

Being aware and being ready to make a PR move are two different things.

I'm hoping for a good mix of both. I'm also hoping they have some new IP's and more of the lesser used IP's.

Speaking of Mario Kart, I'm hoping it releases fairly early in the consoles lifecycle and then they can release new content for it somewhat routinely since there will most likely only be 1 title in the franchise for the next ~5 years.

You don't think tons of butthurt nintendo fans wouldn't be twice as pissed that nintendo is taunting them?

They DID tweet about the E3 Stage Curtains last E3 after I asked for them.

Right, because that's all in good fun. Tweeting any kind of NX tease would come off as a taunt and upset a lot of people.

Maybe AFTER they announce the reveal date. Anything now would just make people go even crazier.

I don't know if that has ever happened. Can't recall a time when it did. However, it would not surprise me if Nintendo gave more time between announcement and reveal this time. This isn't just some standard Direct with Wii U games or whatever, this is the reveal of their brand new hardware which their entire future depends upon. They need people to be aware.

I think we'll see some mobile-esque, DS-esque, light software, yes.

I hope we see the latter from both Nintendo and Japanese developers in general to differentiate the software profile from mobile within the portable gaming sphere. I don't think those games should cease to exist just because they're put next to their home console, bigger budget brethren. The latter won't always be the best for on-the-go, for one thing. But also, Nintendo uses their handheld iterations as lower budget, lower ambition design laboratories that bleed into the bigger games. I don't want them to lose that. Finally, medium budget titles on a, hopefully, mainstream portable that can and, hopefully will, get a lot of the bigger titles gives Japanese developers a haven of sorts within console gaming but away from cutting edge production values.

Good post is good

No. These fans are crying and screaming because nobody seems to hear them at Nintendo. They just ignore them, which is a extremly bad move. A little joke would help here.

It really shows that Nintendo isn't aware of how using today's social media for good PR properly.

If I were an insider, y'all would never know it because I would never mention it.

OT: I'd love to be a GAF-reading Nintendo employee right now. The schadenfreude must be incredible.

The PS4 being a PS4 hasn't stopped it from getting a ton of lower budget, creative, unique games from first/third/indies along side the huge AAA spectacles so I don't see why it would be any different for Nintendo. If anything weird experimental titles might feel more at home on a Nintendo platoform since they're usually all about new gameplay ideas and innovation, as well as more cartoony graphics which a lot of indie games seem to use to mask the lack of budget.

I think a joke right now might come off as mean spirited and people will take it the wrong way. I think once there's a PR announcement for the reveal date, they can do silly teases.

I know no one still knows, but do you think EA will bring FIFA 17 on NX? I mean the console wil be almost as powerful as Xbox One, so a lower resolution version of that game wouldn't be hard to achieve

No. They aren't allowed to say shit. And I mean zero, nothing, nada. Until the cat's out of the bag.

To be fair, if anyone at NOA is reading this thread (and they are) they should be laughing and posting GIFs like that. It's kinda embarrassing

Well there's "always" a Super Mario game in development so I'd like to see Super Mario Galaxy 3 for NX, Pikmin 4(announced and should be ready at this point), a new Metroid and new entries in the F-Zero/Pilotwings series. I'd wager some type of upgraded Pokemon Go will be announced/shown for it as well.

I think it probably won't have a ton of AAA ports if its even powerful enough to run them.
Tell me if i'm wrong, but does the xbox1 has that? i think ps4 is the only one and still lacks of a hugh library.
If the NX could have 3rd party support like XB1 with their own IP, that will be enough.

With the wiiu they tried some exclusive and more IP games, it didn't work.
