The NX Prediction / BSpeculation / Fanxiety Thread

That being said I am not sure what we are gonna do if Nintendo stays silent much longer.

On twitter it's getting bad, practically every post Nintendo makes now is replied with something like "Who Gives a Shit, show the NX" or please give us NX info and responses like that.

When someone at Nintendo eventually realises that anything they say or anyone talking about Nintendo right now will be shot with repsonses in relation to NX, everywhere, social media, forums they will have to give in eventually right?

Im a computer

Casuals, kids, women. Depending on price and features, they could be a complimentary device as opposed to a primary device. Complimentary to PS4/X1/PC for core gamers, complimentary to mobile for casuals.

I've a few problems with that:

- Nintendo wanted to move away from wii & wiiu brands/style
- Nintendo said they moved to mobile/tablet gaming, not something that they want to do anymore
- BOW is a game that speaks against all that what you're saying.

+ PS4 & X1 are 99% for casual gamers, fifa, forza and all of those games are made for kids and older mainstream gamers. The also mostly own only a few games.

So it does sound crazy what you're saying

Thank God for Emily Rogers, otherwise we would have nothing to talk about.

I have some of my own predictions (actually inside knowledge or who knows):

- Games for the new system are being developed
- There is a new exciting third party developer joining the growing portfolio of developers
- The game console is made of plastic
- A Mario game at launch period that is going to be different
- If not at launch, then the plans have changed as they are reported to me now. Or then soonish. With soonish meaning three years from launch.
- The battery life is not great
- The grip of the device isn't very comfortable
- There are at least six front facing buttons
- The screen is on the front as well

Story of Emily Rogers, or as known as "tales from my ass". Everything she says can be easily debunked later on by "unforeseen consequences" or by just being vague enough for the claims to be true.

This meltdowns here are silly, but I think there's some merit to the idea that it's ridiculous that we have to set aside an unknown amount of money for something that we don't know much about yet. It really makes planning hobby purchases harder than they should be, especially if you're strapped for cash I imagine. I don't know how those people who buy Smartphones day 1 do it.

I mean, the money is pretty obvious... I'd save up between $400-450 (console + a game or two depending). If it turns out the NX is garbage then you have ~$400 to pay off bills, invest or buy something else with.

So, i don't get this, why would nintendo get 3rd party's onboard, but not targeting the same people?

Nintendo has the handheld market to themselves, yes there are phones and tablets but NX will be looked at as a gaming system, MS and Sony isnt competing in that space.

The console part of the NX is going to be something Nintendo needs to knock out the park, if they do that it will be even bigger

You're not getting the same kind of third party support that Sony and Microsoft get and you shouldn't expect it no matter whether you believe in reality or the AMD PS3.8 Pro Alex Jones console theory. You should know this based on the Wii U launch.

If they doesn't get those support, whats the solution?

Because to have a good library, they need 3rd party onboard

It's #2 on the list of "Wii U games I should get but probably won't because NX"

Out of all Wii U games, I especially expect this one to never leave the system it was made for.

If they doesn't get those support, whats the solution?

Because to have a good library, they need 3rd party onboard

Look at Nintendo 3DS. It has a lot of games by third-party and indie games which greatly compliments Nintendo's offerings, yet it's not the same as mainstream third-party support by Western publishers as seen on home consoles.

I've a few problems with that:

- Nintendo wanted to move away from wii & wiiu brands/style

I don't even understand where you're going with this.

So is it unreasonable to expect the NX to be capable for 4+ player games like the WiiU, or would the aspect of its hybrid nature work against that?
The prospect of 2 player local multiplayer on the go through detachable controllers alongside 4 player local multiplayer at home on the dock sounds very enticing.

I want to add that Nintendo of Europe's social media accounts deliberately called NX a "video game system", referring to it as "console" only in languages where the direct translation of "video game system" would result in a nonsense.

The words 'game system' and 'console' are so interchangeable in our vernacular anyway, who's to say he didn't have a slip-up as well and say one when he meant the other? Nintendo refers to both 3DS and Wii U as game systems (Handheld vs home). Console can just mean 'game system.'

If they doesn't get those support, whats the solution?

Because to have a good library, they need 3rd party onboard

1) Unify their development teams under one device/ecosystem to create more output
2) Lend third parties their properties as an incentive for game creation
3) Pay for dead or buried properties to be made for their system
4) Attract alternative demographics for games like Just Dance to appear & succeed
5) Build a userbase large enough to attract a few all-audience stragglers from the big publishers don't already port (eventually, maybe?)
6) Incentivize launch ports with co-marketing and other dollars like on Wii U
7) Coerce whoever's left in the handheld market to make more games for their new platform before mobile
8) Nindies. Lots of Nindies
9) Maybe even some mobile offerings.
10) There will be some Wii U remasters obviously

You're not getting most of the AAA titles that are geared toward young males that want to do the shooting/stabbing/driving/etc thing slated for PS4/XB1/PC. Invest in one of those platforms for these titles.

Don't dream of what you can't have on the Nintendo box. That's what a lot of people are doing in here and taking out their frustrations on people who are just trying to throw them a bone every once in a while.

I've a few problems with that:

- Nintendo wanted to move away from wii & wiiu brands/style

You can still do both without going all in on casuals. Kimishima talked about blue ocean strategies, not the red ocean that is X1/PS4.

- BOW is a game that speaks against all that what you're saying.

Once again, they can do both.

+ PS4 & X1 are 99% for casual gamers, fifa, forza and all of those games are made for kids and older mainstream gamers. The also mostly own only a few games.

You can have a world with FIFA while having games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing existing.

So it does sound crazy what you're saying

It really doesn't. They've stated that they're interested in being a complimentary console, not something that competes directly with X1/PS4. Much like the Wii60 strategy Microsoft pitched when Wii took off. This time they're complimenting the big two with their own games and own style for core players (BOW being a prime example) while complimenting mobile with the mobile titles enticing folks into buying their console equivalents (Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem.)

Calling a Paper Mario for the Wii U was pretty ballsy

I'm going to note in advance once again by noting that I really wish that we could stop focusing our attention so much on Emily Rogers. With that out of the away, let me ignore my own advice and talk some more about this situation.

I think part of the issue with her reporting is simply that she's not a real journalist and as such doesn't know how to properly vet or contextualize information. But as you note, I also think it's unfair to suggest that she's a complete fraud. I don't think that she outright makes things up or misleads audiences. Further, this is one of those situations where I find myself banging my head up against a desk because it never ceases to amaze me how counterproductive people can be sometimes. And by that I simply mean that I don't understand how people can react to an Emily Rogers rumor with a sentiment like "why are we listening to this bullshit con artist who has never been right about anything ever!?!?" and then still seemingly wait with bated breath for the latest rumor to be proven wrong.

"I know she's wrong, but I'm going to pull up a chair here and wait for her to be proven wrong so I can remind everyone that she's always wrong!" This is not how you should behave. If you're a sane person and you think someone else is unreliable, then you should either ignore them or actually take anything they say with a grain of salt and not just claim that you're taking what they say with a grain of salt.

See also: Michael Pachter threads. Pachter goes on record making a dubious prediction, someone makes a thread about it, and people fall over themselves trying to get in some clever "this guy is never right about anything why do we give a shit what he has to say?" response. And then you realize that it's one of the most active threads of the day and part of the reason why is because people can't help themselves from having to take shots at him. Whereas if people started actually ignoring him instead of just passive aggressively suggesting that we should ignore him, he might become a less tantalizing figure to try and make sound bites out of.

They never said that.

Thank you, and with that we should finally be able to "focus" on speculation and theories rather than bashing people...

With all the trouble aside and the constant NX talk the last few days, I assume the following. A Short tweet from Nintendo on Friday to look out for a special direct next week for the new console Codename NX and maybe a teaser pic of yxba as the control scheme like in the new ads.

What I wish is that we still had NX speculation threads that were full of Thraktor, FourthStorm, blu, et. al. with the technological speculation. I understood nary a word but the stuff was always fascinating nonetheless.
.

What happened to those guys, all banned?
