Local multi is... I dunno... kinda 1995. Sure, it has its uses and some will like, but the world has moved on to online play. No one is saying that they have one at the expense of the other, but I don't see this as a driving feature.

Local multi didn't die cause people don't like it. It died cause it wasn't possible anymore with modern gaming. Split screens are lame.

If people could have their own console and play call of with friends anywhere with 4 screens ? That's entirely different.

The regular controller looks ugly.
The console looks ugly.
The portable mode is not portable, at least not as much as the previous handhelds.

The detachable controllers look gimmicky as fuck. 90% of social situations showcased in the video will happen 0.001% of the time. What is this guy doing

?

Skyrim looks like it's running at a smooth sub-30FPS.

In the end, it's all about the games. That little bit of new Mario footage got my hype juices flowing more than anything hardware related.

He's playing on a plane. If you think this only happens 0.001% of the time, you must not fly often

Why are Nintendo faking the actual gameplay? Just look at the reflection on the TV-screen from the windows on the left and how the reflection magically disappear during gameplay.

Because it'll be hard to show the game correctly because of what you said (the glare)?

Some people think it looks ugly. Others think it looks sexy.
Some people think it looks uncomfortable. Others think it looks serviceable.
Some people are "day 1" sold on the concept. Others hate it.
Some people hate the logo and name. Others think they are the perfect fit.

As I figured, this was a good reveal trailer but I think Nintendo needs to clarify some things. If the "tablet" doesn't actually have a touch screen I think it could be a HUGE misstep. I've always thought that this Nintendo system would benefit from playing mobile games with touch, just like a regular tablet.

Also, I'm curious about the internals of the dock.

Those controllers look very small and uncomfortable to use. Not exactly thrilled I would have to buy a better controller right off the bat if I was to purchase a Switch.

The Pro controller has a traditional D-Pad. The portable controllers don't because of multiplayer. I don't think it's a good trade-off (what about your friend uses a Pro controller or another Switch instead?), but that's why there's no D-Pad, basically.

Having a dpad locked behind a pro controller purchase is some BS. I'm not going to use those things for multiplayer so I'm basically screwed out of a dpad for a feature I'll never use.

Using it as a remote to playback videos I imagine.

Is that four different control methods? What the hell is that one with the flat portion in the middle?

Detachable small controllers, Pro controller looking thing, tablet with detachables, and a flat black 'tablet' with the detachebles.

My kids will be begging to use the screen split screen in the car or out and about. Soccer game? Check. They already use the wii U tablet split screen.

I'm going to need some sturdy screens.

Edit: Never mind, see it's a grip.

What's the button below the joycon's d-pad supposed to be?

Probably the power button on the left, and home button on the right.

If a full fledged FIFA is released on it, I'm fucked. Nothing will prevent me from playing it non stop.

So is it confirmed anywhere that this has a capacitive screen like mobile phones ?

If so I'm wondering if this thing will end up being a port fest for mobile games. It wouldn't be as good as a mobile phone because of a lack of always connected mobile signal (unless it has that too) but there could be some benefits in the extra powerful hardware.

I mean this thing looks pretty dope, but don't believe this trailers' lies folks...

If you and your incredibly good looking hipster friends bust your switches out in a park at night to play NBA 2Kwhatever after a rousing game of the basketballs, you will not be smiling and having fun; You will be robbed.

Jokes aside, I like the look of it. Now just waiting for official specs and price info.

Awesome, 100% day one for me, i just hope that Nintendo will release more details now, the latest official PR says that price, line up etc will be revealed "prior to the March launch"...but when exactly? need to know the console hardware specs, battery life, what OS will run, if the display is a capacitive touch screen and so on!

TV's don't photograph well. You always composite the image in post...always.

They just did a poor job.

I hope that Nintendo will somehow keep Streetpassing alive. I know it's not meant to be a portable console first but that would be neat.

I've hated on Nintendo before but this looks like a nice bit of kit. Well done Nintendo.

And I really like the name.

MIght be that the units weren't functional and they also didn't want to show actual games to the actors and people on the set.

I just realized how much of a complete reboot this is for Nintendo. THey just killed Wii and Wii U compatibility completely and DS and 3DS compatability is a question mark as well.

The name is fine.

I don't like the controller much, but the idea for portable console that you can also use with big screen is good.

If the controller is ergonomic, the battery life is good enough (this I doubt) and older games can be bought, I think this might be the first Nintendo console for a veeery long time
NES lol
I would buy.

Doesn't seem like faking per se? You can maybe see somebody moving in the reflection in the grass right next to the weapon.

Can someone photoshop that picture of everyone playing in a circle with the mess of charging cable that will for sure be the reality of all of that.

These are exciting times. I have a few questions:

Does the Switch screen support touch or tilt features?
Does the Switch support VR?
How powerful is the system on the Wii U, PS3, Xbox One, PS4 scale?

I love the innovation, but I'm not yet sure why I'd choose this over my PS4 + Vita.

I can safely say I will never play this 'on the go' like the trailer optimistically suggests but will use it just as I do the Wii U for 99% of the time (wife is watching Netflix, I get the tablet) though it will be my go to when on a trip or something.

Also... wtf is with Nintendo and shitty ass two-tone, two texture shit? Just like the OG 3DS it looks fucking ****awful****

So, based on that video, I'm not the target audience for this device. That's very clear. I guess this is what it's like getting old.

In concept, I like the console/portable idea. But watching this video, I can never see myself using it in that way. All those situations they show it being used are something I won't do. I carry my phone on me already and don't care for mobile gaming. Why would I want to carry that thing around all the time? I wouldn't.

And what's the point of disengaging the controls and setting it on the table on the plane? Seems like you'd just hold the entire device. I don't know.

Nintendo consoles haven't been my thing since the N64, given their penchant for rehashing old franchises and rarely coming out with something original. I'm sure the 20-somethings and younger will enjoy this though.

Because the video makes that very clear....

This is how off-screen footage of a TV is always done in any kind of half-way competent production. Whether in game trailers, or a scene of a family watching a football game together in a movie or TV show. Pointing a camera at a TV and just filming it is almost always going to make the footage look like ass.

I hate to be negative, but this is pretty much exactly what I didn't want. Just like with the Wii U that I got rid of because I considered the hardware a poor value, it has a screen (and the exorbitant cost that comes with it) that I'll never use and I'll (most likely) have to shell out another ~$50 for a controller that I'll actually enjoy using. I was also really hoping for Wii U backwards compatibility so I could rebuy the games I enjoyed and pick up what I missed out on. With Nintendo's track record of infrequent software releases that would've made a purchase at launch much easier to swallow.

If there's a way to get (appropriately priced for last gen) Wii U games on it and the hardware cost (console and worthwhile controller) is under $200 I'll bite, but I don't see how they hit that with the direction they've gone. Best case scenario is they release an at-home only version at a later time that's just a stationary console with the pro controller, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm cautious but sold so far. Will probably wait and see how it holds up over 2017 summer before I think about purchasing one though.

Wonder if they will implement BC and Amiibo functionality.

1. We don't know
2. Probably not as of yet
3. Seems to be less powerful than XBONE, but not sure just how much to my understanding
