man I want to purchase this piece immediately, and I own a Wii U that I barely used. The portable aspect and local multiplayer gets me all excited

if it can also double as a rudimentary tablet computer, I'm all set

I love the concept, but for me, gaming on the go isn't about full experiences since those are meant to be time dumps which "on the go" really doesn't fit. Not would I wish to play those games on such a small screen.

The trailer reminds me I can do this stuff on mobile (aside from the game library, of course).

I feel this doesn't scratch any itch anybody asked for, tbh. We have gaming on the go and gaming on the couch, so this doesn't feel like a step forward for gaming as much as it's just a lateral movement to add another device in the chain that already does what other devices do.

I love traditional gaming but I feel the experience needs to change as it has become stagnant. This does nothing to rectify that issue.

Cool concept, though.

OK, I'm impressed.

I like gaming on the go and the compatibility between my Vita and PS4 and this will take that to the next level.

This will be my first Nintendo machine since the DS if the price is right.

Ok looking at all those pictures i have noticed the bumper and trigger buttons on the detachable pads, how on earth are they gonna be useable when detached and are they not gonna dig in your hand as they are on the wrong side.

This seems more like what the WiiU should've been. I still don't think mobile tech is powerful enough personally but this will probably make alot of people happy.

Finally GAF is working again, heh

My current thoughts

I like the name Nintendo Switch. Switch sounds good. If a bit like a gimmick and less like a platform. Will have to see whether people are interested in a deliberate gadget.

They went back to advertising hip twenty somethings instead of children. White lofts make way for rooftop terraces, console looks chunky and mature. This is good.

I guess the Yin Yang sign will go over well in Asia.

Fuck yeah Mario looks like it's going to be in the vein of 64/Sunshine/Galaxy 1. Exactly what I want.

Not interested in Skyrim anymore, but good catch to have a big third party front and center.

As I was afraid. Playing multiplayer on those small ass controllers looks awkward as fuck.

Playing games on the go is Wii U off TV dream personified. Really excited.

That dock looks a lot more imposing than just a TV out and power adapter, so I'm kind of thinking it does something else we're not seeing yet.

Rated a definite buy for me.

Never thought I'd be interested in another Nintendo console after buying Wii U day 1.

Looks like I'm in again , this looks fantastic for me. I missed all the 3DS igames because I never really wanted one , but being able to play Mario / MK / Xenowhatever etc on the couch *when the kids have the tv) plus incredible lookign games from the portable studios......

Day 1

I think they're being a little too optimistic when they showed people playing 2K on those tiny little controllers, but the concept definitely seems like one that can be successful.

The regular controller is definitely ugly, but I'm sure it'll be comfortable to hold knowing Nintendo. I had wondered how they would make a controller with two rectangles on the end visually pleasing, and I think they still are too.

It's also a shame the dock has to so totally encompass the hardware. Would have been nice to have an always connected heads up display feeding you social info. Seems like a missed opportunity. It also just looks incredibly industrial and generic.

Kudos to Nintendo's marketing.
This is an outstanding presentation of the product.
Interesting to see how they're positioning it as the social/local co-op handheld/console for young adults and pro gamers. This would also lead me to believe the Switch has to be 250,00 at max.
I'm very curious to see the market reception.

Can't wait to see some exclusive game reveals, namely by Platinum, From Software, Retro and that new Nintendo IP that's "weird, fun crazy".

THIS aspect is what will make the console a success.
It's what i was telling i would have done.

Let people play local multi on the go, with games that were only online before.
Now Nintendo, move your old ass and go convince big community game devs to port their games (overwatch, destiny...)

There is a market here.

The 2 mini pads idea would have potential but it just seems horrible..

Local multi is... I dunno... kinda 1995. Sure, it has its uses and some will like, but the world has moved on to online play. No one is saying that they have one at the expense of the other, but I don't see this as a driving feature.

Nope, that console(?) is nothing for me.
Which is sad, because I love Zelda, Smash Bros and Xenoblade yet not one console after the Gamecube did appeal to me. I bought a Wii, disliked it's Wii Remote very much and I only played on the Classic Controller. I didn't buy a WiiU und I won't buy a Switch.
I wished Nintendo would stop trying to be innovative and special. I just want to play Zelda on my TV, with a normal controller and up to date graphics. I hope I'm not tarred and feathered for this post, sorry. >__<

Nah! we are one big family. :p

But you can play it on the tv like you described. It's just that now you have the option to take it on the go.

I hope they release different versions of interchangable controllers for the portable part because as it is, they're the worst thing about the switch. They need a proper d-pad and for the stick to not be so damn close to it.

It's a gaming tablet.

It has a dock for the TV and some controller add-ons but the core of the console is a tablet. They'll make it supercharged but there's a limit to what you can do when the dimensions are dictated by having a portable screen.

It looks like there are bumper buttons on the inside of the controller as well (inside when you dock them). I'm guessing it registers when you slide the controllers onto the main unit, that the outside bumpers start working, and then when you slide the controllers out of the main unit, the outside bumper stops working in favor of the inside bumper buttons.

Everything looks promising so far. Nice list of 3rd parties, some surprising ones (Bethesda and FromSoftware), the name I'm still not sold on it, but it's better than WiiU.

Also, I just realized that this will (probably) be the first home console that will get a mainline Pokemon game!

The more I look at it the more I don't think making it so you can use each side of the controller as it's own controller was worth it.

Look at how small that is and how close the buttons and stick have to be. We will see how that feature is utilized, but I think I would have preferred just having a solid dpad on the controller that comes with the system. The "pro" controller looks okay enough but wouldn't have even needed it.
The trailer shows off that that's for doing two player stuff like Mario Kart or NBA, it'll be fine for that. If you're playing something like Skyrim on the go you put them together into the full controller with both sticks

The regular controller looks ugly.
The console looks ugly.
The portable mode is not portable, at least not as much as the previous handhelds.

The detachable controllers look gimmicky as fuck. 90% of social situations showcased in the video will happen 0.001% of the time. What is this guy doing

?

Skyrim looks like it's running at a smooth sub-30FPS.

In the end, it's all about the games. That little bit of new Mario footage got my hype juices flowing more than anything hardware related.

I don't like the physical look of the design very much, though the adaptable controller is interesting.

Skeptical as to how it will turn out.

Very smart idea but as someone who will likely never remove this from the dock, I'll hold out hope for a cheaper screenless tv only version down the line.

If it has great games at launch, good 3rd party support, and a decent price tag, everything else is irrelevant to me.

You are okay with a cheap system that has great games from a wide variety of developers? How very open and accepting of you!

Maturity, bitches.
The handheld is sexy as fuck. Such a huge departure from the 3DS/Wii U era too, think about it

No IR remote
No touchscreen (from what is shown)
No Dual screen
No Gyro (from what is shown)

Just a pure hardcore gaming handheld ala Vita but much more powerful.

Can you believe it?

DTVZWhs.png

Suggesting no gyro is hardcore smh

Also, with a new Splatoon coming I'm pretty sure we can expect gyro controls.

So the devkit was quad A57s and Maxwell.

It'll be interesting to see what is running inside of the consumer unit.

The thing that excites me most is having the handheld and console studios working on one platform. It should have more dense release schedule, even with weak 3rd party support.

Why are Nintendo faking the actual gameplay? Just look at the reflection on the TV-screen from the windows on the left and how the reflection magically disappear during gameplay.

That's what I'm thinking. But I don't see the base unit going below $300.

Oh I do, I think that's exactly what'll happen as they'll get into the market at 299- granted 300$ but still to the shopper mind it's under 300- maybee 279.99 we'll find out soon enough I guess

This is exactly what i wanted from Nintendo. I'm 37 and have a full time job with a long commute, so i don't get alot of time to game at home. The only thing i'm worried about is the battery life.
