Honestly, I was a little bit underwhelmed. I liked the first part where the sliding the controllers on and off mechanic was shown, but then for the remainder of the video it just seemed like there were people squinting to see tiny screens while holding tiny controllers, and it just didn't seem that fun.
It also feels too big and slightly clunky to carry around generally for portable play. I can't see myself leaving the house with it, but perhaps I'm not the demographic that would do so, since I'm basically a middle-aged parent now with a bunch of stuff to bring with me when we go out already. I was hoping to see something more along the lines of new gameplay possibilities or interesting gameplay applications, but the games themselves were mainly retreads. The new Mario game didn't look very distinct from previous Mario games, with the exception of perhaps some improved lighting effects? Then there was Mario kart, splatoon, and Skyrim.
And I'm also not completely impressed with the design itself. I like the docking mechanism, along with the mechanism for sliding the controllers on and off, and it looks like it will have a very satisfying click, however the console doesn't look very clean and the ergonomics of the controllers when used individually look rather off. It kind of reminds me of what the DS looked like at first in terms of its clunkiness, as opposed to the sleeker versions that came later.
So, whether I get this right away will depend on Zelda breath of the wild, I guess, and how those two versions compare against each other. Nothing truly compelling that I've seen with the Switch yet from a gaming perspective, though perhaps some of the biggest game reveals are yet to be seen.
