I think if Nintendo were to be so inclined to do so, that they could make a decent VR device using the Switch as their screen.
It would work similar to Samsung's Gear VR, and Nintendo could even release a higher resolution Switch model for better IQ.
We have no idea if the Switch has any type of gyroscopic tracking, right? If it does, I think we could be looking at our possible future Nintendo VR device.

Why do people keep using discs as an excuse for no BC. You know all WiiU games have a digital version right?

I'm holding out hope our digital purchases carry over but I doubt the architecture is compatible and I don't think Nintendo has engineers on Microsoft's level.

I hope they never try it with VR on the Switch. It's a passing fad at best, just like 3D was. The Switch needs to appeal to a wide audience, not niche "gamers".

I do wonder what the killer app will be that shows off the Switch's unique features. Wii had Wii Sports which everyone loved and became iconic, but then Wii U had Nintendoland (lol) which was confusing, messy and kind of terrible all around. Did anyone like it?

I'm not sure what you're getting at, that there would be camps here...I think this is largely self-evident? Since it's gotta be at least slightly more powerful than Wii U it's clear that it can handle 1080p like the Wii U does. The handheld screen is likely 720p based on rumors and just the idea that it would need to run in a lesser mode when on battery.

I think at least for the 1st party games that will be the general rule. Any game that rendered at 720p on Wii U can render at 1080p and get even bells on top on an actively cooled Pascal based Tegra.

How are WiiU games supposed to work on this? You can't do anything with the tablet unit when it's docked for home use, and when it's on the go you don't have two screens. Hell, it's not even confirmed whether there's touch on the controller in the first place.

On the list of reasons why this will more than likely not be BC, no discs ranks really low.

It's hideous... it looks like a knock-off console. Reminds me of Fisher-Price tablets for kids, that awful AWFUL grey color scheme. The controller buttons are laughably small... what am i going to do to avoid pressing two buttons at the same time?, also... those fuckers will be getting lost left and right. It's more likely than not going to have lackluster battery life and power wise speaking it won't be on par with the PS4/XBO let alone PS4Pro/Scorpio. I am terribly disappointed because all of the rumors turned out to be true...

Still that new Mario game may just be the thing i need to purchase one but i need to keep it on my radar and see how it develops.

VR may never be 100% mainstream that's all anyone ever uses, but it's firmly past the point of fad by now.

Even if a lot of VR content dries up in short order, it's out there now. People who like to feel totally immersed, like they're actually in a location next to weird creatures or strange sights...those experiences will continue to trickle out for the foreseeable future. The headsets are in the wild, I mean even if it died tomorrow you can bet I personally would still be dicking around in Unity in a decade, loading up various scenes to look around in.

Guessing it comes with all of that, sans pro controller. Tech doesn't SEEM too shabby either so I can see it easily go over 300. They left out some other things though like a camera, so maybe that will push the price down enough.

Come to think of it, maybe they'll sell stuff like that on separate JoyCons. Definitely seems like an ideal Nintendo system to peddle all sorts of nonsense attachments on.

I forgot to mention the tablet's size in my post, but yeah, depending on how heavy and big it is, it might be unfeasible. Apparently, the Switch has a screen that's 6.5'' compared to the Note 7's 5.7'' screen.
It's not THAT much bigger that it would cause too much of a problem, at least I think realistically. The concern for it's use as a VR screen would be on how much it weighs.

Plus at 6 inches and 720p the DPI would be awful for VR.

For now, yes. But Iwata did say there could be more versions and that would pretty easy atleast with Nvidia. See Shield as reference.

You could do a DP motion with a button D pad (granted my super scientific test was a N3DS sideways).

This is the NX. A home console "first and foremost", but it's basically a hybrid that you can also play outside with as a handheld.

I think they'll wait and see whether the Switch is going to be a success or not. If not, then they'll probably announce a 3DS successor.
