Going off of some of Nintendo's other patents, it's probably safe to say that they are also experimenting internally with docks that give the system a significant boost in performance.

Looking at the form factor of this thing, and the way that Nintendo positions it in the trailer...I can't help but wonder if maybe they would still keep a system like 3DS around, or have a successor to it still.

For us gamers that can afford to buy stuff like this, I see no problem. I do see a problem though that the Switch doesn't look very kid friendly. The screen is big, which makes it look easy to break to me for a little kid on the go. It looks complicated in a way that I can see parents not being sure if it's good for their 4-5 year old. Stop me if I'm completely wrong, but when I look at my nephew with his 2DS, I can't see him owning, and carrying around a system like Switch with him.

Edit: Part of the appeal and beauty of a game like Pokemon, was always that you could just pull it out anywhere. Play it with friends at school, trade, battle, etc. This looks mobile in the sense that...commuters, and gamers can take with them anywhere. It doesn't look mobile in the sense of how Nintendo has made a success with all their handhelds in the past though. I dunno...just thinking.

I can't wait to play Skyrim & Zelda botw on the go, but if anyone had any doubts that the gameplay footage on the console was real time or not:

They couldn't bother to greenscreen dem shits when they filmed the commercial?

In a world where PS4 has already taken the world by a massive storm, I really dont think so.
what did GAF think of the Wii before it launched? that came off the success of the Ps2. That was Ps2's world, we're in Ps4's world, it can happen again.
I haven't seen proof of that and there's way to many unanswered questions to even say that they are going to take the world by storm.
I believe they will take the world by storm.

Now that it's announced, can we get some official game announcements?

I mean third party-wise. Like capcom, ubi, square, etc. And apparently 2k...?

Is there anyone who was planning on upgrading to a Scorpio or PS4 that is now more interested in getting a Switch instead and keeping their current model PS4 or Xbone?

I Think a PS4 for 3rd parties and a Switch for Nintendo and portable are a match made in heaven.

How many times more powah doest Switch have than 3DS?

We can't say for sure, since 1) we don't know for sure what chip will be used and 2) we don't know how much the portable mode will underclock said chip. However, we should be looking at an increase in FLOPS of a factor 50-100 (6.4 GFLOPS against 300-750 GFLOPS).

My brain cant seem to amalgamate these two images. Its like theyre two different sizes.

Really? It's like one picture only shows the device from the side and the other shows the entire length of the device from the back.

And it's almost like the hands of a woman is smaller than the hands of two men...

One hundred 3DS duct taped together.

Year 1: one colour, on system option to buy

Wait till sales dip, then unleash the varying colour schemes, ala (n)3ds's

I don't think that entirely applies to the question, though. The question here was would they allow us to buy an optional alternate Joy-Con L (left control piece) that has a standard D-Pad rather than the split one.

That could easily just be an accessory sale like the Pro Controller. It doesn't require a system revision.

I'm not sure if this is confirmed, but it had been mentioned before that there will be swappable controller pieces.

I've seen the rumor, though I can't remember who it was actually from, but I think it was saying it was possible rather than saying it will happen.

Edit: Here it is.

I believe the Switch supports swappable new controller sides. Suspect they're not mentioning yet to keep messaging clear.

since we were talking about this earlier, in this picture it really does look like the visible screen will color-match the game or something.

Might just be a video thing, but yeah.

This is one of those things that sound cool in theory but falls apart in practice.

Having said that, I would totally main a controller that has gamecube face buttons for everything.

EDIT: I would also buy a joy con L that has a D-pad on top for 2D games. Preferably the D-pad won't be broken off.

Maybe it acts as a motion sensor bar, lol.
There's definitely things we don't know yet. Remember when Nintendo revealed the Wii Remote? They didn't reveal the nunchuck until a much later date. Then the classic controller was shown even later.

They like to unveil system features slowly over time.

Maybe you can customize it?

That too.

So: Will the next eventual mainline Pokémon game after Sun/Moon be a Switch game, or a mobile game?

Sure, but wait until Gen VIII.
