Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

in terms of difficulty, there needs to be a mode where you can't pause in the middle of a fight to replenish hp. Make it like monster hunter or something where you replenish health real time from eating or drinking

goddamn I want to watch the GameCenter video but I'd rather wait for subs...

maybe the translators will put a high priority on this one since everyone probably wants to see it

Wait, what: is that true?

@shinobi602 @YouTube I'm not liking it all that much. I loved Zelda for the story. Nintendo said there's no narrative story. So it's a no go

There is no story in this? Damn. My hype just wento to zero...

What? It has no story?

Okay, now I'm sad and disappointed. For the best Zelda everything has to come together, and story is also a part of that. Sigh.

So that's why we only get videos of people doing stuff in the overworld. Meh.

Nope, not story at all. My uncle at Nintendo told me you are dropped into a world and just walk around for 20 hours until you stumble upon Ganon.

Thanks... I already guessed so, there isn't much to do aside from what Nintendo already showed.

Well, seems like I just saved a lot of money right here!

Are these posts sarcastic? because the game already showed cutscenes, the game even has voice acting for important scenes, there are npcs. The point of the plateau was literally to not spoil the story of the game...

Aonuma said things like even the bow and the blue clothing are important to the story...
the master sword rusted has a point in the story....

I'm fairly sure the Assassin's Creed games have "game over" screens when you die
More of a desync from animus.

The only good thing about all the ditch of the WiiU gamepad... is that I'll be able to play with the pro controller without thinking about playing wirh the ganepad for the item management

Yeah, being able to pause to eat in the middle of fights (and not have the health replenishment take any time once you unpause, AFAIK) seems to make that mechanic more or less pointless. It's just a chore you have to do, not something that actually adds any challenge. Running low on health, just pause and eat something. You do have to have something to eat, of course, but yeah.

Wait, how do we know there is no narrative story? Is that twitter guy just going off the miyamoto e3 quotes where he mentioned that the story stuff is optional and you can fight Ganon asap once you've gotten out of the plateau? Because those are not necessarily the same.

That twitter guy is the president of Nintendo.

i always got the impression story/narrative in this game will be barebones. seems like a post apocolyptic-ish hyrule where you're alone with few to no NPCs, though that could change i don't see it brimming with NPCs later on

i prefer the 'show, don't tell' approach personally

It's not like the stories in previous games were all that interesting. You're basically just being told you're the chosen one by everyone and that you are the light that can destroy the darkness that flows over the land. It's the same in pretty much every game, lol.

The jist I picked up on is that the story in this game will be told more subtly than previous Zelda games, and that I can't be happier about. I like a good story in my Zelda games, but the last big game, Skyward Sword, made too much of an effort to throw the story in your face. This game seems to be putting gameplay and WORLD BUILDING first, story second, and that's find. World building is much more important than story, per say, in a game like this. You're the hero who needs to save Hyrule and all that jazz, but along the way you'll learn about what's going on in Hyrule, which seems almost post-apocalyptic. Sounds awesome to me, I don't need weird childish cutscenes with high school drama.

Look at Majora's Mask for example. Pretty bare bones story: Termina is going to be destroyed in 3 days, it's up to you to release the giants and save the world. However, the most memorable parts of the game aside from the dungeons aren't from story cutscenes, but character interactions which help build the world of Termina.

Just as an example Skyward Sword was the first 3D Zelda game to have a manual sprint button. It took them until 2011 to make that a manual default option for adult Link while the rest of the games had us rolling our way to freedom.

Pegasus boots.

...I said that half as a joke but now that I think about it I would love that to be something in a modern 3d zelda. Put on boots and use them for a high speed dash.

>"Just over 100" mini dungeons
>Each area has "1 full dungeon" (7 total?)
>There's an underground system (no idea of the context he's talking about here, the comment is dropped out of nowhere. Caves? Tunnels?)
>For every 4 heart pieces you collect, you get a new heart, for every 5 hearts you get "1 big heart" (I have no idea what he's talking about here)
>"Every location has its own town" (guessing he's referring to the regions, which could mean 7 towns)
>Every town has side quests, story elements, and "a secret element we're not discussing just now"
>There are weapons that don't break
>You can store items at towns

The story is going to be trying to piece together what exactly happened in that 100 years. Seems interesting enough.

I would like to see that voice acting put to good use though.

EDIT: That sounds like a reasonable list of things. Maybe getting a horse with baggage gives you access to a mobile storage unit. Nice to see a potential confirmation of unbreakables.

lol none of this is true

Just Zelda again or the Old Man, too?

Just the female voice. Obviously no for the old man. In-game stuff isn't voiced and will not be voiced (nobody wants that once they realize they'd be suck in cutscene for every dialog).

Wait, how do we know there is no narrative story? Is that twitter guy just going off the miyamoto e3 quotes where he mentioned that the story stuff is optional and you can fight Ganon asap once you've gotten out of the plateau? Because those are not necessarily the same.

Ignore the twitter guy completely. Knows nothing, least of all what he's talking about.

In The Witcher 3, you can skip voiced dialogue so it shouldn't have to be a problem in Zelda. Either way, I'm not bothered about no in-game voice acting. It sort of makes it even more special when there is voice acting, lol.

Play more Zelda games.^^

I'm not saying I don't enjoy them, but they're really not the most interesting plots. They all follow the basic monomyth/Hero's Journey template. Nothing wrong with that.

>"Just over 100" mini dungeons

Already confirmed... ;D

>Each area has "1 full dungeon" (7 total?)

According to E3 map, there are 15 main areas. So that would mean 13 dungeons (if we don't count the Great Plateau having a dungeon, and Hyrule Field/Castle being the final mini-dungeon/boss rush/final boss). I hope not all the dungeons are visible and easy to find (being the obvious temple/tower/ruins in the center of the area), as the Shrines are already pretty easy to spot.

>There's an underground system (no idea of the context he's talking about here, the comment is dropped out of nowhere. Caves? Tunnels?)

I hope this is true! Imagine a giant tunnel system/maze in the underground, that would be some kind of Dark Word, but smaller and harder.

>For every 4 heart pieces you collect, you get a new heart, for every 5 hearts you get "1 big heart" (I have no idea what he's talking about here)

?

>"Every location has its own town" (guessing he's referring to the regions, which could mean 7 towns)

Makes sense. Anyway, where does this "seven" towns/areas/dungeons comes from? E3 map shows more than that.

>Every town has side quests, story elements, and "a secret element we're not discussing just now"

Cool and expected. Anyway I'm starting to think this is not real. The video was just a dude playing the Great Plateau and making jokes, don't believe they're talking about this stuff in the video.

>There are weapons that don't break

Also expected towards the end of the game.

>You can store items at towns

Remember me to Majora's Mask bank where we could store rupees before going back to first day.

Very off-topic, but every time this thread pops up I read the title instinctively as "Breath of Fire" and get momentarily sad. (for reasons completely unrelated to Zelda - I'm more than exhilarated for this game)

Oh no. Just when I thought we were free of NX rumors and speculations, now we begin the Breath of the Wild rumors and speculations hahah. The ride never ends.

Well, I'm not so sure, the 4 best stories in the series are Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening. The Former two fit the standard hero's journey template more than the latter but they utilize a powerful thematic undercurrent to strengthen the narrative beyond the basic monomyth. In Wind Waker, it's the concept of Tradition and how it anchors us to the past and the pushes us to the future. In Skyward Sword, it's the darker side of fate in these sorts of Hero Stories. That Link and Zelda are mere pawns in a game between gods and demons and they know it. But all they can do is fulfill their roles in hopes of the better future.

There's a lot you can say about some Zelda Stories and I think being reductive is not wise.

As for Breath of the Wild. The opening Establishes quite a lot of questions like,

"What are the Guardians and are they linked to the Shrines?", "Who is this Old Man and why does he know about Shrines?", "Why is Link awakening from a pool of water?", "How will I beat that eldritch force?" and ultimately, "What happened to Hyrule?".

It's a swift opening that's quite dense on inspection and gets the player thinking about the world. This is also a smart narrative choice that can potentially reward those who delve deeper in trying to understand it as well as pursuing shorter term goals in the hopes of eventually understanding those bigger questions.

Obviously.

Because it will be the same date as the Switch release date.

It's the Wii launch all over again, and I can't wait. Coming home with a Wii and Twilight Princess was so great. And this time it'll be with my dream Zelda game (the one the first TP trailer fooled me into thinking it might be). I skipped the Wii U, but I'm in on day one for the NS and this game.
