Behold Nintendo Switch (March 2017, Hybrid w/ Dock, Detachable Controllers, Nvidia)

screen is just too small to have more than one person use it simultaneously. I'm trying to imagine having 2 or 3 people huddled around an iPhone or even iPad Mini to play a MP game and I just don't see it.

Should be big enough for two people though. Some kind of Nintendo board game workoing around these limitations could be interesting. And I'm not talking Mario Party or Wii Party. That's not interesting at all.

I could see it if everyone had their own Switch. Game night would be crazy fun sitting on the couch with a few friends and our own console playing Overwatch online against other people.

Most comfortable playstyle. Feel so free using Wii Remote and Nunchuck.

You could do the same with any handheld. We're talking about the basketball scenario in the trailer. I could see kids using this during recess. But grown-ups?

Seems like Laura is teasing news for tomorrow :

Seems like her account got hacked. Or has she tweeted like this in the past? Seems very odd.

Maybe if you were in a storm and lost all electricity so you pull out the Switch and play basketball with your family until power comes back (or your Switch dies).

But yeah, I don't see that getting a lot of use. Just seems like a proof of concept scenario that could potentially happen, much like the rooftop party.

GTA V, Watch Dogs 2? You're getting off the rails, people!
GTAV is a game that's been around the block, they're still selling at high prices, making more money on the online component, and can definitely work on hardware weaker than Switch, so I don't think it's TOO crazy. It's also a series that has been present on Nintendo portables before, and found success with portable takes on previously home games.

Well Emily did say this week would also have info from Nintendo...

... it just all conflicts with the info from WSJ that said there would be no news from Nintendo. X_X
They're not announcing games or specs at the financial thing, that's consistent with the wsj.

I don't see myself in that particular kind of situation, but I do carry my 3DS or Vita to pretty much any family gathering. I'll do the same with my Switch (without the dock) and I could see myself doing this there occasionally.

The important thing is the trailer is showing what you *can* do, the scenarios may be cheesy and unrealistic but that's not what's important. They accomplish what they were aiming for by demonstrating what the Switch can do.

Bring your entire Switch and hook it up to the TV. The dock isn't that big.

Unless you're playing board games outside

What if you want to play off the TV in the kitchen and you have 4 players and 2 Switches. This is what the trailer suggests, the nearest thing I could see grown-ups do is board game night. All sitting at the kitchen table looking at the two screens. One screen isn't enough for 4 players and even for 2 players it's pushing. I don't know how many people would even be interested in this. How many people play Monopoly on their iPad instead of plain old Monopoly?
Maybe hey could do something like the table games in Wii U party, those used the gamepad as a Foosball table for instance.

So, based on the IR blaster rumor, I did a quick and dirty mock up of how the wii-mote + nunchuck could be remapped to the joy-cons.

Since everyone will have both controllers out of the box. Didn't see a reason to map all the functions to just the right joy-con.

I used the R3 control stick click as the A button/main source of interaction for the pointer joy-con, since anything else would be very awkward with the controller flipped

click the stick for A? really?

For what it's worth (not much) Nico from Gameblog and his friend were talking about the Switch reveal in their podcast and they are still 100% sure that FFXV will come to the console. Among a lot of things they are now saying that RE7 is "a done deal" and will come too. Also Ubisoft will bring Watch Dogs 2 and Ghost Recon Wildlands.

I'm starting to think they just love spouting vague rumors with confidence, it's so weird. Nico was so sure that the reveal would be at the end of september, and when nothing happened he just moved on... It's just weird because they do know a lot of insiders, they contribute to a big website and seem so sure about the crazy things they say...

Anyway just thought I'd mentioned it on the 1% chance they are right.

Yeah this sounds so, so unlikely. Particularly the FFXV part. That must be a very demanding game for the Sony/MS consoles.

I don't know about you all, but I felt that these were the most intriguing parts of the NS reveal. The functionality with this machine is going to be insane.

Also, what do you all think, bluetooth v5?

Screen_Shot_2016_10_24_at_1_00_51_PM.png

First one is just me playing my 3DS or on my laptop (but I take the plane once a year maximum). I like the wiimote/nunchunk combo though

Second one is cool to show for PR but won't happen that much (or at all) in real life because of screen size, battery life and limited controls for most games

RE7 is a "done deal" because every Nintendo console since the N64 has had Resident Evil games on it. Only exception was the GBA (but GBC had one!)

Ya'll going crazy over these third party games but the ideal game to bring us closer to nirvana is....

Dark Souls Death on the Go Switch Edition.....

Extra content contains Link as a playable character

Must have been like my 5th time saying this but idc. Please please please make this happen somebody. Really want to play this game!

Seriously, lol.

That thing is not a Wiimote.

There are a 100 billion wiimotes.

If you the Switch can play Wii Games, I'm sure they would let you use a real Wii controller.

Did someone say that there was an orange port in the dock or something? I mean, isn't the Wii/Wii U thing attached to one of similar colour too?

So, maybe they'll give you an opportunity to put that Wii IR(?) bar to good use once again...

This is how I think Nintendo Switch line up will be

Launch
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Super Smash Bros (new characters such as Ice Climbers, local 4 player using 4 JoyCons)
Mario Kart Switch (new game using same assets from MK8, old MK8 levels as free DLC in the future)
NBA2K17
The Elder Scrolls Skyrim

April
Splatoon (new game using assets from Splatoon, all old Splatoon maps and modes available too)

June
Super Mario 128

August
Pikmin 4

September
Amiibo Slykanders Clone

October
Rare New IP (if I had to guess Kid Icarus game. Full AAA action adventure game with RPG elements, massive boss battles and on rails sections like the 3DS game but main game is like Zelda/GoW)

November
Pokémon EclipZe (enhanced 3rd version of Sun and Moon, also post game content that let you go to XY region)

December
Mario Maker (more options with bifger creations, comes preloaded with NSMBWiiU and NSMB2 levels created using the MM engine. Game also has 4 player multiplayer using JoyCons)

Obviously there will be other 3rd party multiplatform games when ever they are due to release such as Tekken 7, Injustice, Codemasters racing game, FIFA, Sonic, Dragon Quest XI and etc.

Or you se gyro, problem solved!

Gyro for the A-Button?

Either way, I guess the emulator they build for Wii games would have to able to recognize that JoyCon L and R are the same Wiimote/Chuck.

And of course, you'd have to be able to buy pairs of JoyCons at the store to enable 3+ multiplayer for VC Wii games...

That whole controller layout is pretty terrible though as a compromise. There's no reason to go that route exclusively.

Lol they aren't throwing smash brothers and Mario kart at launch

They will put either one a month after lunch and splatoon in June then Mario kart or smash in September for its anniversary followed by the Mario game at the end of November

To throw all your ports at launch would cause mass "where are the games" posts

I'd honestly do nothing but Zelda for the first month
Mario kart 8 switch at the end of April
Splatoon in June
mario maker in August
Smash in September

Having ANY Dark Souls game on the Switch (Well, not 2) will make it an instant purchase from me. I mean, it basically already is, but it will be a complete no-brainer. Being able to play both Dark Souls and Zelda on the same system sounds blissful

I don't think anything else is a solid bet for 2017 at this point.

I'm still just delighted that Game Freak aren't going to be limited to comically underpowered hardware (no offence to the GB/DS/3DS family).

Can't wait to see if they scrap the 2D/3D top down view and just go for a 3D third person game like Pokémon XD.

And you'll be able to play it on your TV. With a pro controller. This is seriously my wet dream.

Like imagine a 3D Cerulean cave, on a 3D island, with a full model 3D Mewtwo at the end just waiting for you and you know he is going to fuck shit up and as you walk towards him that legendary music starts getting louder and louder and then a fucking 3D Zubat flies down from the ceiling and attacks you and as you look up at the ceiling you see another 18 3D Zubats. Please Game Freak just knock it out.

Ugh, stop. No more Kanto. Gen IV remakes with gorgeous snowy Mt Coronet? Yes. Please.
