apparently IGN has a tease for a Zelda trailer thats coming out tomorrow on their snapchat

Yeah like paying off their mountain of debt from Xmas, there is a reason no games are launched typically during those months.
If Nintendo isn't ready tho then obviously they have no choice but to paint it as a good idea is a bit whack to me

On the plus side, it might be the fix for supply issues. Ps4 launched in November or October, but you couldn't really buy one easily until like March or April.

Launching in Q1 gives them time to smooth out production for the holidays and have a year 1 holiday lineup that includes all the big Nintendo guns. It will probably sell out in March anyway because new electronics almost always sell out.

IGN just clarified on twitter that there is no new trailer coming tomorrow. I think what they tried to say on snapchat is that they would talk about a previous Zelda trailer tomorrow.

I read the thread since I was last here and my brain hurts now.

We heard the same for the Wii U.

I'm curious, what about Nintendo right now is also reminiscent of the Wii U?

People keep leaning on this, but really... if this were the same Nintendo as Wii U/3DS Nintendo, that 3-minute tease of Switch would have been an abysmal disaster.

So I am legitimately curious to see how you are drawing the parallel.

Nintendo hasn't invested in online. Why do you think the trailer focused so heavily on local multiplayer. The online infrastructure will again probably be worse than PS2 era Sony online.

Leaving your blatant horseshit hyperbole aside, again, Nintendo hasn't invested in good marketing, either. And yet...

This premature drawing of parallels is just getting a touch out of hand.

So since there's now Nintendo Account, will all our eShop and vc purchases transfer?
Or at least not have to pay for games we previously purchased.

Can we stop with these stupid shitty posts? Seriously, just admit you've never played an online game on the Wii U. Just don't insult our intelligence by acting like we should take "worse than PS2 era Sony online" seriously

Wii U online is pretty seamless and lagless actually.

I never see the store go down from hackers like Microsoft or Sony.

Mario Kart 8 often felt like the opponents were playing on the couch with you

Voice Chat would be appreciated though

I'm not naive enough to think this will be the case.
Beyond that, they're going to stall out on any BC chatter until they figure out a way to charge us all for this content again.
I would love for this not to be the case as I've gone largely digital on 3DS.

Smash Bros is a mess online from my experience. Splatoon runs generally well but has issues.

I've worked retail, Gamestop specifically, and post xmas shopping is just as big as pre xmas shopping. It is absolutely a consumer frenzy. If Nintendo can grab people's attention for that part of the year they'll do well, but they do need to jump on it.

That could work if the info blow-out is right at beginning of January or even end of December, But if it goes towards the middle of January, there's nothing left to capture from the post xmas shopping.

But you are apparently naive enough to think that Nintendo commands a market position strong enough to screw over its most loyal customers by asking them to double-dip for kicks, so...

No, because that was already handled through your NNID which tracked all your purchases since day 1. There was no need for "Nintendo Account" to do that.

I may actually pick this up at launch if it hits early March in the EU and has at least one decent game. I'm going on holiday at the end of the month which requires two 13 hour flights, so it would be nice to have something to do

Really? Smash has been lagless for me the vast vast majority of the time. Of course I usually play For Glory

The issues I've had with Wii U online had more to do with its shitty built-in wifi.

Playing with the ethernet adapter plugged in was always spotless.

By the way: don't fucking make me buy another ethernet adapter, Nintendo. That is, if the dock even supports an ethernet adapter :O

There will not be an ethernet port. You can take that to the bank.

Do you seriously think Nintendo won't re-charge for VC like they have since Wii?

I'm thinking this thing should absolutely come with a video-out on the device itself, without the dock.

It should be possible to take it to my friend, take it out of my bag and hook it up to his TV with (mini)HDMI and have a gaming night right there. I'd also want to be able to hook it to my PC monitor for a quick gaming session. Everywhere you see a screen you should be able to hook it up. That's a bigger local multiplayer incentive than crowding around that tiny display.

If they exclusively feed video-out through the dock, they are making a mistake.

Why all the games must support non-touch gaming?

Who'd want to play Farmville or similar on their TV?

I just don't understand the reasoning for that.

It would make sense, if the thing actually has a touchscreen, that those 3DS games with touch controllers would remain higly mobile, higly touchable games. No need to play small games on big screen. Those would be the equivalents of the aforementioned Farmville and those Rhytm games for 3DS. Casual fun when you want to just loosen up.

Why won't there be an Ethernet port?

Nintendo is showing they care about the older gamer and will want to have a great online infrastructure. I think it's going to be great because they'll have DENA working on it.

I think this system is truly the sequel to the Gamecube. There are no gimmicks. It's a great system that can get third party games just like the Gamecube.

I really want Ethernet. ;_;

After two home consoles without an ethernet port, I think it's safe to say this one won't have one either.

What I'd like to see is the dock being inexpensive enough for me to buy a few and place one at my desk and one near my TV and maybe buy one for a friend or something to keep at his place. Just put them everywhere.

Wasted space. They never bothered with one. Also, it'd have to be in the console, not the dock. So = no port.

How much could it possibly cost? Seriously?

Its not like its a space issue either, there is plenty of unused Space in the dock.

But it wouldn't be in the dock.^^

That means you also need to connect HDMI cables and PSUs to them. It becomes more of a hassle than you think.

What happens if you break the tablet? You drop it and he screen smashes. Will they sell standalone tablets? Because the tablet is the console.

It looks like very expensive tech and people may want to steal the thing too. I think an account system with all the games you purchase are tied to your account will finally happen (meaning not having to call Nintendo to do a transfer).

If they really want to go after the eSports crowd it should support Ethernet. Splatoon and MK8 were both fantastic without it but still. I'd buy an adapter if I need to.

That's way more cumbersome than just sticking in a HDMI cable.

Nintendo, seriously. Get on this.

How do you people manage with smartphones, laptops and tablets? Do you live in constant fear all the time??

I feel positive that Nintendo will use durable plastic for the screen so that it will last you a good while.

I better hope it's not plastic. Plastic scratches like hell and seeing this isn't a clamshell design it would get banged up easily. Gorilla glass or bust.

Nah, Hearthstone (also on PC) and Clash Royale captured the eSports crowd on mobile.

Smash, MK8 and Splatoon aren't like Hearthstone or Clash Royale. Could you imagine Splatoon's eSport potential with a better account system, better online and spectator tools? It could be amazing.
