They had ports of the latest console games yearly at the time (Cod, Ass etc) and "improved" ports as well. You can't continue to blame 3rd parties for well documented trends when not a single game did well comparatively with the userbase.

Yes you can blame third parties for half assing it and getting half assed sales. CODBO2 and AC3 may have been close to the original releases and done well but they were still not day and date since the system launched weeks later. AC3 by that time had already fallen to the wayside for being not very good and CoD stood no chance, I mean its a multiplayer focused online FPS anyone who was going to buy that bought it on the system their friends had when it was released 2 weeks prior and while off TV play may have been cool its not exactly a feature that used or marketed well.

Look I agree that Nintendo fucked up a LOT with the Wii U but third parties abandoned the thing long before it ever came out. Look at Mass Effect 3 as a primary example. EA had the gall to release this nearly year old game for 60$ at launch (you could pick up copies around 20$ on PS3/360 by this point) didn't bother to even release most of the DLC for it, and less then A MONTH LATER Mass Effect Trilogy came out for 60$ and had all 3 games, and for some reason EA didn't bother to release this version on the Wii U instead.

Then look how Ubisoft screwed over Nintendo, they might have supported them better then others but when the system was struggling for exclusives and Rayman Legends was COMPLETELY FINISHED for the Wii U they decided to delay the game to release it on all platforms after initial sales were lackluster and this is after originally announcing the game as an important exclusive. Again, yes Nintendo fucked up a lot but third parties aren't without blame. Releasing ports of at times year old+ games for full price, releasing ports of a single game when a collection is about to come out for other systems for the same price, and taking away exclusives just ends up detracting consumers from wanting to buy your products.

I was so excited for Rayman Legends as an exclusive for the system but Ubisoft doing what they did (they easily could have released an 'updated' version with a small amount of new content later in the year and still released the original game on the Wii U when it was originally intended) caused me to not want to buy it, and I still haven't and I never will because that was a huge dick move to consumers and guess what even porting the game to multiple systems didn't help the game sell very well.

Whats different with the Switch however is that there is a REASON to actually buy the games on that system over XB1/PS4 which of course is the portability. If big Q1 games are coming to this thing a few weeks or a month after the original release I think you'll see fairly significant sales for several launch titles. If given the option I for one would buy games like Mass Effect Andromeda, Persona 5, Skyrim, ect. on the Switch over Ps4/Xb1 for the portability and would either double dip or just wait to play them for that option. No not everyone is like me but you might be surprised how many people will just like having that option available to them when picking where to get a third party release.

Honestly it'll depend on how third parties ultimately treat the system, if they try to pull the shit they did with the Wii U no the games won't sell but if they actually mean to honestly support it then I think that people will be rather willing to play more third party games on the Switch because portability is a huge deal to many people, theres a reason the system is being discussed both here and elsewhere.

That makes me wonder what the Wii Sports for Switch will be. You can't really translate its USP into gameplay mechanics, unless we don't know everything about it yet (which I assume).

What would be super awesome is a game that does something different when it's not in the dock. Like a Pokémon game that is Pokémon on TV and Pokémon GO on the go kind of deal.

Since the pitch is "it's the same game yo" I don't see it happening though.

Wii sports - mini games focusing on waggle
Nintendoland - mini games focusing on off-screen/asymmetric play (sort of...a bit)
Switch - mini games with a lot of shared controller multiplayer stuff

Would be my guess

I feel like we'll definitely get some tidbits from the investor briefing. Not specifics about software or hardware but maybe some insight into Nintendo's strategy.

Bundle ideas revised

FIFA (NBA 2K17 in US) Bundle - $275/£220
Nintendo New IP Bundle - $275/£220
Modern Warfare HD + Pro Controller - $325/£260
Borderlands 2/Pre + Pro Controller - $325/£260

What do all the above bundles have in common. Local multiplayer out of the box without the need of buying extra controller

Nintendo has to be willing to do 3rd party bundles with third party IP's. Mainstream ones, too. Like Madden, FIFA and COD.

I dont think the Switch will have a Wii Sports. I mean none of the handhelds had one.

I Guess they could make a bunch of minigames With local multiplayer, but thats not exactly unique.

Unless there are major features that havent leaked, but I doubt it at this point.

Just pre-ordered my Switch here in the Netherlands!

I live in a small town but there were 38 folks before me, in a big chain though (Game Mania), but still, the 38 folks were only in this town. More popular than I thought!

I also pre-ordered the Pro Controller with it :P

You know what? I want Nintendo Land 2. Instead of attractions being polished GamePad concept demos, make them a bite-sized chunks of mainline Nintendo games (look at Metroid Blast or Pikmin Adventure from Nintendo Land, for example).

Besides, Nintendo Land is a great game and deserves at least a spiritual sequel.

Nintendoland was ok and was criminally deprived of DLC. But I would like the switch to have nothing to do with anything that ties it to the wii like wii sports or Nintendoland. I already have my friend calling the switch "that Wii thing "

My example also doesn't have AAA gamed just ports so giving away these games shouldn't be a big deal. Hell Borderlands is already on NVIDIA Shield TV and that's should be a quick and dirty port.

Games like Zelda are big enough to sell on its own and shouldn't be given as a bundle .

Those bundle are really cheap, are you working from the predictions that the Switch without any bundling will be $225?

I would go for vanilla Switch being $250, and hope they can get some of these bundles out:

FIFA/NBA 17 - $300;
TLOZ: BOTW + Pro controller - $350; (my personal favourite)
Infinite Warfare - $300; (I don't think MW HD will be released separately, especially not in time for the Switch release)
Mario Kart 8/Splatoon Remaster - $300;
Mario Kart 8/Splatoon Remaster + Pro controller - $350;

That would be my completely random guess, but I think the bundling will be done along those lines (games may vary wildly from this, but I think Zelda could be a really strong bundle for the NS).

Playing a shooter with a single Joycon?

Who knows if it can really run Xbone ports. I know a lot of you say it can. But seeing is believing. If it can. They should try for Persona 5, For Honor, and South Park around launch. A EA shooter would be good also Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, Battlefront complete edition, or Garden warfare 2 complete edition.

Overwatch to me is most important, even over COD. Going forward they must make sure they can get Destiny 2 on the system. I believe it will be 2017's biggest game by a mile.

If it can not truly run Xbone ports in a real world situation. First, I think it is game over for Nintendo with regards to Switch. But they should approach Valve about an Orange Box 2 with Left 4 Dead, portal 2, CS: go, and Dota or something. I realize Dota is generally free to play. Possibly allow mods for L4D, and Portal 2.

I personally don't believe Valve has the name cache it did ten years ago when orange box released. But it still would garner alot of attention. Especially since they already have some of those games running on NVIDIA shield.

The only thing Nintendo should be focused on is getting rocket League to run on the switch as its premiere Game to be released at launch. Rocket league would show off various things the system could do like local multiplayer with friends or local multiplayer where you could party up and go online and play against others over Wi-Fi. Rocket league in my eyes was made for something like the switch. Play at home then detach and go to a friend's house and 1 on 1 or two v two.

The game is made on the unreal 3 engine and has a massive cross platform online community. There are casuals and hardcore gamers for the taking. Nintendo needs to work with psyonix to make this a reality.

I don't think Switch will be sold sepereately at launch. Once bundles are sold then the seperate Switch systems on its own would cost the same price. I've made those prices up based on the PS4 Slim with FIFA being sold for £250 right now. I think Nintendo need to undercut PS4 with FIFA to have a good chance.

I like this idea. Rocket League is indeed perfect for the Switch and for RL-fans it could be a killer app, being able to play it anywhere.

I dont think the Switch will have a Wii Sports. I mean none of the handhelds had one.

DS, DSi and 3DS had some... um, I dunno for "games" - let's call it "built-in entertainment." I'm taking about Pictochat, Nintendo DSi Music & Camera, Face Raiders, AR Games... Even Wii U was supposed to have Game & Wario as a Face Raiders-like preinstalled software.

I wonder if anything like that is planned for Nintendo Switch.

Why even pre-order at this point? You expecting shortages?
If anything, it would make more sense to pre-order at MediaMarkt or a similar store, seeing as they will invariably have way larger shipments, occasional unique launch bundles and way better deals on launch software.

Source: I worked at Mediamarkt for like 5 or so years, including during the PS3/X360 launch days.

YES! It should be pre-installed with DLC on the way. That would be great.

Meh, just to be sure. I can always pre-order at multiple places. And shortages, well, probably not, but I didn't pre-order the Wii and ended up standing at Media Markt at 11 pm until 9:30 am in Rotterdam all those years back to get one on launch day haha. You never know.

Unlike Wii U ports, Switch ports have something that other versions don't have. Portability. You can play a full Fifa not a legacy gimped one (hopefully) anywhere. You can play a real COD anywhere. You can play NBA 2k anywhere.

If there is anything that the last 2 handheld generations has taught us, is that people generally don't want to play home-oriented games on the go. Switch will let you decide where to play, yeah, but even then people will buy and play their multiplats on Xbox/PS systems for multiple reasons.

Imo they sould make a game like Wii Sports that is free with Swith and demonstrate the console capabilites ex having some simple mini games that are fun when play with a single joycon. Maybe they could have a free to play Mario Kart - like a demo but bigger (ex: two cups, 4 playable players, local play only).

They did, the traditional Nintendo fanbase does not by western 3rd parties, thus they bailed. Since the type of people that will buy a new console at launch is the traditional Nintendo fanbase it will run into the exact same problems.
The real problem was no one bought the Wii U so they bailed. Wii owners bought shitloads of western games.

All this Nintendo Land talk makes me want Nintendo Land 2 WITH online so bad.

Nintendo Land is such a great title for local and online multiplayer.

Also, to have games to show the multiple control schemes.

The Modern Warfare and Borderlands bundled in my list come with a Pro Controller that's why they are $50 more expensive

Oh, I missed that. Still, I don't think that the shooter genre would be a good showcase for Switch.

Rocket League needs to happen on Switch, absolutely.

This is different though because the same game you play on the go is the one you play at home. With PSP and Vita you had watered down spin offs which you bought sepereately. And even then those games were the best selling on Vita and PSP. God of War was still more popular than Locoroco.

Also this has the added benefit of local multiplayer on the portable.

If Nintendo released Switch Home where there is a next gen Zelda game.

And Switch Go which has a watered down spin off which you have to buy sepereately I'd agree with you. So far we don't know how people will react to this system as there is nothing like this on the market made by a huge manufacturer like Sony or Nintendo.

Well look at that! Oh boy I can't wait to hear this. I knew there would be bundles and so did others.

She said maybe or maybe not you could get the system without the dock too?

I wonder if she's hearing what Kimishima is going to talk about with the Switch at the investors meeting

After her last article, "Taking my time to source correctly" could very well mean "waiting for NeoGAF to come up with more theories".
Whatever dude. You still have a problem with them getting things right?

Mario Sports Superstars Switch.

I think you're onto something. Maybe just the full MK8 port should be included. I believe that was one of the best-selling Wii U bundles.

If Laura already knows about bundles I'd expect Nintendo to reveal full details for Switch with the games and prices around the time of the Investor Meeting on Wednesday.

Whatever dude. You still have a problem with them getting things right?
I don't know who you are referring to by "them" or me still having a problem. I am referring to the fact that her last article about the possible Joycon IR appeared to be copied directly from this thread.

Other than that, I have no idea or opinion on who she is or what her connections are. I see people mentioning that she has sources and is in the know. More power to her.

Ah okay. Sounds to me like she knows what accessories (Joycon, Dock, Joycon Grip, Pro controller) to expect in releases bundles.

If Laura already knows about bundles I'd expect Nintendo to reveal full details for Switch with the games and prices around the time of the Investor Meeting on Wednesday.
Doubt it. I'm still convinced Nintendo will indeed stay mostly silent until January. At most, I expect small tidbits and clarifications at this upcoming Investor Meeting

Store where I want to pre-order it has a dumb 999.99 placeholder price, don’t want to risk that they charge me that - even if obviously I’ll be able to revert the charges.

I think this is as superb idea but considering its nowhere near as known as NBA or Skyrim I wonder genuinely if it's even on Nintendo's radar. Hopefully its publisher sees the potential and is in touch with Nintendo.

All this Nintendo Land talk makes me want Nintendo Land 2 WITH online so bad.

Nintendo Land is such a great title for local and online multiplayer.

Also, to have games to show the multiple control schemes.

I will gladly second all of that. Nintendo Land is the most under-appreciated game on Wii U and that is really saying something.

If there is anything that the last 2 handheld generations has taught us, is that people generally don't want to play home-oriented games on the go. Switch will let you decide where to play, yeah, but even then people will buy and play their multiplats on Xbox/PS systems for multiple reasons.

This is exactly what I was going to post. Well said.

She said maybe or maybe not you could get the system without the dock too?

I wonder if she's hearing what Kimishima is going to talk about with the Switch at the investors meeting

Did she say that? Thought she just indicated she'll clarify whether that's a possibility. I assume it won't be one at launch given the focus on the home-or-on-the-go functionality.

Would that be official news from Nintendo, or more rumours?

Presumably more rumors, though she has shown herself to be a reputable source. I wouldn't expect any specifics on prices or bundles till next year.

Yeah, I don't think it appeals to a big market on its own but when you add that to the Nintendo combined fanbase between Wii U/3DS it creates a viable market for third parties.
