I want it in red

I personally feel red stands out a bit too much visually when you're on the go. Personally, a black, dark grey or (preferably) navy blue NS would be best.

The colour of the system isn't a big turn-off for me in any case; I just want it so badly! :(

Don't think Mario Red. Think Wine Red.

I have red Mario DSi XL & red Mario 3DS LL - need to finish the combo!

before anyone posts that nintendolife video analysis: they're wrong about the pro controller supporting motion because they're basing it off the splatoon gameplay footage which we all know isn't real and thus not applicable to the context of the scene (the pro controller isn't even on screen, we just "know" the people are using one at the moment of the narrative). NL simply forgot/ignored that the footage is not actually happening on the device as it was filmed.

I'm not linking the vid myself because there's literally nothing new in it.

-- what's the big gap in the back of the base? vvvv

-- my only real design qualm with the thing is the goofy differences in greys on the the controller. would look so much better all the same.

The cables run out of the side in that gap, you can see this during the tournament scene in the teaser.

I agree about the color. I think the two tone thing looks tacky.

Looking at the guy playing in the plane, I have to say that the shoulder(ish?) button placement looks kind of great.

One can easily reach a button in the plug side of the Joycon with middle finger. I don't know if this aspect of the controller has been spoken of already and couldn't find the controller thread.

Oh, and at least Eurogamer and Destructoid has lots of great quality pictures about the console in their articles. From those it can be easily seen that there is indeed at least one button in the plug side of the joycon.

EDIT. picture is quite a large one, put it behind a link...

I wanted to make a pic with the few games that have been announced for the machine. Since the floodgates are slowly starting to open, it would be fun (for me at least :P ) to update it step by step.
I put everything that has been announced and the things that has been extremely hinted.
I also assumed the basketball game was NBA2K17 because yeah, there's like 0.1% chance it's something else.

there's clear pictorial evidence of two. no more need to guess and speculate. :)

Both Joy Con have at least one L and R button on the inside for separated play

You're missing Terraria. 505 Games spilled it out clear as day without saying the words when they announced that Wii U patch.

Is it safe to assume this device is using three batteries? (screen, joycons)

Those joycons better have the battery life of a Wii U Pro controller.

Could you give me a source about Terraria ?

Finally have read through the whole of this thread, Nintendo Star for me?

Impressed with the idea, the design and the simplicity of the message in the advert.

People's ideas of portability are varied. As a 40 year old with a baby, my portability is within the home. If I can grab some rare gaming time on the sofa, in the garden or my new use case 'dropping the kids off at the pool' then it's all good.

The trailer aspirational situations are mildly amusing but thinking slightly outside the box, the lan party could work well in a pub quiz, lunchtime at work or even an old folks home environment. (Brain Training Switch anyone?). Even a train carriage against unknowns on the commute?

Can't see it not being touchscreen for 3rd party app/tablet functionality. Will be interesting what Nintendo decide on a) touchscreen in games outside of menu and if so b) whether devs can write for portable mode only.

Can see this being popular across all ages, especially kids with the plonk it down anywhere and play aspect. Really interested to see how people will approach a triple A game like Zelda on the go. Maybe certain sections one would want to experience on the big screen at home?

VC for Gamecube would be a nice selling point. An integrated account less of a talking point due to one new SKU. I'm sure there'll be some cost to migrating old games, just as there will be in 7 years time on their next platform.

In the end as with all systems, it comes down to the games, and Nintendo's ultimate special gimmick here isn't one device for home and portable, it's moving its devs, library and gamers onto one platform. That's the trick that'll give the Switch a real chance.

Great thoughts and write up.

I also want to add, that the "community" aspect of the system might be a good word of mouth dynamo. Should people really go for the on the go multiplayer aspect of Switch, it will cause more poeple to be aware of the product and possibly aspire to own one.

God that sound is so safisfying.

What Im hoping is that when you start the console up you see and hear it straight away without delay. And then after those two seconds straight to the menu without delay. Man that would be so safisfying!

It's pretty clear this animation and sound will feature in each and every Switch / Switch game trailer we'll see in the next few months, if not years, right? It's the successor of the corresponding Wii / DS / Wii U / 3DS sounds and animations.

Suppose so but you never know with nintendo. Best intro since the cube though!

Yep. I also find it interesting how the timing of the sound has changed. With Wii and (3)DS the spots started with the sound. With Switch if the reveal trailer is something to go by it will be a few seconds into the spot. Together with the nice crisp sound and the strong colour red it gives it more of an aggressive feel.

Yes, I had to suffer through Marketing 101 for my Bachelor's Degree. :P

Lot of folks on r/nintendo speculating that the console will cost in the range of $300-$450 in the "Nintendo CEO says company won't make loss by selling it; but also listening to what consumers expect from us when setting price" thread.

I really, really hope Nintendo is not listening to those knuckleheads.

Thats $470-$535 Canadian. Yikes.

Well from what I understand there is a very good chance Nvidia sold their Tegra chips at a loss to get a console win, so that should lower the price. I'm in the $250-$300 crowd

The Switch is everything western AAA developers want.....in a handheld platform.

Everyone wanted Nintendo to go after 3rd parties. And this is their way of doing just that. They are making what seems like the most powerful handheld they can make (considering the likely price range) with traditional stick and button game controller controls. That's a change from the DS and 3ds mentality.

This is Nintendo's chance to grab 3rd party support. To gain it back. To get the best western AAA games. It will be different than the Wii U in terms of 3rd party support because the Switch won't be an expensive 360 or PS3 or crappy powered Xbox One. It will be the most powerful 3rd party AAA platform for a handheld.

The handheld part will get them back some platform cred amongst western AAA developers. Nintendo can say they have the best version of Elder Scrolls...on handheld. Best version of NBA Live ....on handheld.

OF course maybe the market ultimately won't care. But unlike the Vita, Nintendo can bring all their game creation to the handheld platform where even the lowly 3ds slid into a 61 million and counting install base.

That would be $330-$400 here in Canada. I'm not sure what they could possible pull out of their hat to convince people to buy one at that those prices.

Oh okay so you wouldn't mind something on Wii U level power when docked and just under Wii U power undocked so they can hit $200 price point.

I'm confused. The NS isn't powerful enough to get AAA third party games, right? Why would third parties waste their time on a Wii U+ machine?

Its not really about what I want. Sell it at a loss or make a weaker console if thats what they have to do to sell this thing.

But yeah I wouldn't mind. I can buy a more powerful console if I need one.

If Nvidia actually took a loss on the deal (which I doubt) then I can't see the Switch launching at more than $200. There's very little hardware we know of in the Switch which is all that expensive, considering the prevalence of smartphones and tablets today.

From what I understand, the Nvidia chip it's using is scalable so it can emulate the architecture of more powerful chips. (According to Nvidia's website)

Saw someone on twitter mention something pretty interesting.
There are like 10 games semi-confirmed for Nintendo Switch, right?
If we really aren't getting any new news until 2017, that would likely mean a big blow out in January or so.
We don't know any game that's confirmed for launch, and I imagine there's quite a few with Wii U having over 30 and 3DS having over 15. Of the 10 games we're pretty sure are confirmed (I think Zelda, Just Dance, and Sonic are the only ones confirmed) there are only around 6-7 that are likely for launch so I'm guessing we're going to see a ton of games at that reveal even on top of system features like the OS, miiverse, etc.

The source of the Nvidia taking a loss were from May on semiaccurate

So the chip was right but obviously that might have just been a super good guess

Right I'm aware of that rumor but apparently the author is known to exaggerate negatively about Nvidia. I don't doubt that they gave Nintendo a great deal but it'd be fairly surprising if Nvidia actually took a loss on the deal.

Live presentation event happening on the 12th of January

My take on how good the event could be:
