Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

Oooh, this is gonna be it. Finally! The intro vid was a good taste, but finally we'll really know something.

Deliver it Nintendo!

Everyone is not milionaire and some people need more than 2 months to save/prepare money for a console + 3/4 games... As I said especially teens/young adults (you know, the people mostly aimed by Nintendo).

That might have been true in the past and might still be true for the portables but when it comes to home consoles, most teens/young adults avoid Nintendo. It is cool to like the "Mature" consoles. "I'm 14 I'm not gonna play that kiddie crap".

The main people I saw with the WiiU were little kids and people like me in their 30's who are tool old to care what people think (and probably grew up with Nintendo)

Of course Nintendo should make more attempts to capture that lost market. But considering they only plan to sell 2 million of them the first month, the early adopters probably don't need more than 2 months if they like what they see.

They are cutting it kinda close, no? I mean its coming out in March. I fear its going to get delayed until 2017 holiday.

My guess is they want to avoid the holiday rush.

But I don't know how many people want to be interested in being sold a shiny new multi hundred dollar tech toy immediately after Christmas

at the end of the English presentation they say that Switch will be playable around the world after January 12th for the duration of January, not sure if this was mentioned yet

.............................................hype

Pretty much lol. About 2 and a half months for more info about Switch... I hope they still have significant momentum before then, I know they'll earn some back after the presentation but I wonder how these months of complete silence will affect public perception.

I know it is pretty far from now, but I actually like them giving the date now instead of making everyone insane just by trying to guess when it would have been.

Also, very peculiar situation, there hasn't been any other console before this Switch era covered by marketing so late and close to release, right?

Eh... they did fine after almost a whole year of just a name, I feel like 3 months is nothing ahaha

Other Nintendo consoles I'm not sure, but I think the Saturn was released with virtually no marketing? Like, less than 1 month

Nintendo has announced launch details two months before launch for every new console/handheld in recent memory. Also, how many times do they have to say that it's releasing in March for you people to believe them? Even more ridiculous to believe that it would be delayed all the way to November at this point.

Release it March and sell out anyway because day 1 buyers. Build up hype for 2017 holiday with 1-2 system sellers + bundle. No prob.

Really fucking stoked for this.

Really dreading the two months between the game reveals and release. But DAT HYPE!!

Think of it this way: All the info and hype Nintendo could have been generating since forever ago will now be condensed into two months. All you have to do it make it there :)

About Retro's "New IP"...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1301011&page=3

I know a few people at Retro. They a, don't talk about what they're working on, ever, and b, all say that Emily Rogers has no idea what she's talking about.

I don't give names out of respect for my friend, but I can confirm it easily enough. There's a Retro employee here on GAF. If he's agreeable I can PM him my name, my friend's name, and he can talk to them at work and confirm that I'm not making this up. That said, I don't have any actual insider info. She takes her job incredibly seriously and has never given me even a hint of their current projects, although she likes to hear my speculation. What she has told me, quite directly, is that everything Dmoly Rogers has ever said about Retro is categorically wrong and that Emily clearly doesn't know anyone in the studio.

welp

Expect Fucking Donkey Kong for the 3rd time again I suppose...
not that I have a problem with it

Nintendo is on a roll. Super crisp communication. First a little tease. One week later a date for the full reveal. Very nice!

Man it's a long wait but happy to know the date finally. Counting the days.

Also hoping for an invitation for the european press hands on... c'mooon!

Nintendo is making a big mistake doings a live conference #teamdirect #eatingcrow

It's going to be interesting to see how it's presented. If it's a Japanese conference with translators, it honestly might be a mistake. But my guess is Nintendo knows what they're doing and it'll somehow be tailored for each territory.

Because games announced 6 months/1 year before the release are just announced to be able to lie to us with bullshots and all? Come on...

Since you might be too young to remember the 8 and 16-bit eras when that wasn't a thing because the internet didn't exist to reinforce or maintain hype, I will confirm that yeah, games are announced earlier for hype without anything substantial to show for it for that exact reason. It's a pretty common refrain, in fact.

HOLY SHIT!!!

That came out of fricken nowhere!
