Nintendo Switch Presentation - January 12th

What was the last livestreamed event with a truly global focus to be held in Japan? The last one I can think of is the NGP/Vita reveal in January 2011.

So since From is on the confirmed developer's list, what are the chances we see an exclusive From game? I'm expecting DS3 complete/GOTY edition but there's always the chance of an exclusive game too, potentially with Nintendo IP.

I very much doubt we'll see Zelda Souls at launch if BotW is slated for (or around) launch, but I think Metroid might be a great IP for From to work with. Not "Metroid Souls" but a different type of Metroid than we're used to would be very nice to see.

While I don't doubt it, ShockingAlberto was talking about Monolith Soft's next project...which is why everyone's been discussing it the last few pages.
At first he just mentionned the January Direct, but yes, X came after.
And it was a "I wonder if it'll be like the January Direct", so we better
try to
keep our calm.

Ah... I'm so hype for X2

For launch window, I sure hope so. Launch at, I'll be happy with Zelda and I expect at least one of the Wii U ports that day, so, I'll keep my expectations low otherwise but I don't play to play anything Zelda so I'm good either way. They need a great diverse launch and launch window lineup for sure.

BTW, my theory for the name of the Mario game, if they dont go with Mario switch, is Mario Fiesta.

Hmm Super Mario Fiesta. Sounds like a fun time

The big thing I'm looking forward to from this and the QA is they seem really intent on getting the device into the consumers hands as quickly as possible after so I'm hoping that on like the 13th, Nintendo World will have demo stations set-up

I bet Shocking Alberto and I talked to the same person since that's exactly how Monoliftsoft's next project was described to me as well, pretty much word for word :-P

So since From is on the confirmed developer's list, what are the chances we see an exclusive From game? I'm expecting DS3 complete/GOTY edition but there's always the chance of an exclusive game too, potentially with Nintendo IP.

My first instinct was the 'weird' game in a weird genre that Miyazaki has teased, whatever that is.
They have a Dark Fromtasy, Armord Core and Weird game in the works.

I hope they consider a RPG with online elements like a Destiny or Monster Hunter. I think some individual story that can be played cooperatively with others, or side raids for XP and loot would be great.

I feel like there's a really good groundwork to have an online free-roam mode where they replace some of the tyrants in the world with more raid-style encounters. Parts of the online missions kinda work in that way, particularly the Global Nemesis encounters, and the timed missions offer up another glimpse as to what is possible (including that wholly unique fight against those water dancer robots), but they can go further.

As someone who is finally getting around to learning and understanding an infinite overdrive build, the amount of depth that the game's mechanics have is truly remarkable. I just wish it was a lot better explained in game without having to resort to Youtube or Reddit to understand what the hell potential is and what it does.

He confirmed Xenoblade 3 for Switch and that it would be "As ambitious as Xenoblade X" so yeah I would definitely call that threadworthy.
he did not confirm anything but atmost he said that monolithsoft is making A game for switch and that it would be as amvitious as XCX which may not neccessarily be in open world

Whatever the new game from Monolith, fire the character designer.

Nah. Elma's general design is very appealing. However, it's the transition to 3D that doesn't quite work well--better 3D character modellers is what they need. With Takahashi wanting a stronger story focus for his next game, I'm sure the 3D models will improve especially in the animation.

The character designer is independent I think anyway. :P Same one who also did Xenosaga 1 IIRC. Anyway, Xenoblade 1's character designs are so good IMO, please get that one back, that one also did Soma Bringer IIRC also.

I feel like that Monolith Soft needs to go much more heavily stylized to make Tanaka's character designs to work in 3D. It was as much a problem on Xenosaga as it was for XCX. The first Xenoblade kinda leaned more stylized and were more pleasant to look at as a result, though it was clear that they were still brushing up against hardware constraints throughout, especially with Riki's facial animations being entirely sprite-based.

Mario Party in spanish? It would be a confused name for spanish people if it isn't a Mario Party game.

El desierto de Super Mario (Super Mario Desert) would fix better.

What I saw from the reveal trailer, it looks like there will be fewer 2D games now, every game they showed was a 3D one. IIRC, there were quite a few 2D-games intoruced duting Wii U's announcement.

Hopefully the Virtual Console service is better on Switch than it was on Wii U and 3DS.

Would love to see some GameCube games show up, even some in remastered form ala Wind Waker HD. Since Switch offers analogue triggers, a Mario Sunshine VC or remaster is finally feasible.

Bayonetta 3 confirmed.

that was actually announced four months earlier at the September Wii U event before launch :)

But with a story, right?

That's what Takahashi himself said in interviews. Next game would be more back in that story direction similar to Xenoblade 1.

No remaster for Sunshine please. Proper remake. With all the annoying stuff fixed/redesigned.

No one calls Mario Party = Mario Fiesta tho lol. No name gets translated. They are clearly not doing that name, of course.

This is what was shown/confirmed during the Wii U's unveiling

NSMBU
Nintendoland
Wii Fit U
Lego City Undercover
Darksiders 2
Tekken Wii successor (this would turn out to be TTT2)
Batman Arkham City
Assassin's Creed (AC3 and 4)
DiRT (no game in the series was ever released on the Wii U)
Ghost Recon Online (quietly canned for the Wii U)
Aliens Colonial Marines (canned for the Wii U)
Metro Last Light (canned for the Wii U)
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razer's Edge
Zelda tech demo

That was also where the whole EA shitshow happened. So there was only one 2D game shown during the initial unveiling.

I am really liking how confident Nintendo seems to be in this thing. To essentially bring back Spaceworld instead of going the easy route and doing a direct or small private conference is really unexpected. Just hoping that they don't fall over this hurdle like they did back in 2012 with the Wii U; the LAST thing they need is another Nintendoland Fireworks situation.

This is insane. Or like a Cracked article.

You might not like it, but there is a huge amount of game in Xenoblade X. There is a very well and deep battle system and complex upgrades. Besides the main story there are hundreds of side quests, a lot of them with their own story arch or putting together story puzzle pieces. There are very well designed environments with multiple possible paths. And so on.

To say that it is a tech demo it's the most disingenuous thing I read about Xenoblade X.

Agree 100% like I said earlier. Seems like a bunch of others do too reading the rest of the thread, I don't need to pile on more lol.

Xenoblade X was a "tech demo" in a way, yes. But not in the the way we think.

Yeah it was their first move into HD development and it helped them establish some things and learn some lessons, but the final product had plenty of "game" in it. Again I'm harping on this, point has been well made already.

I want the next Xenoblade game to take the best of both Xenoblade games.

Music and story from Xenoblade Chronicles and the open world and side quests of Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Like I absolutely loved both worlds, but man flying around Mira in Skells felt so good.

I don't think they can pull that off tbh, at least when it comes to sidequests and main story. There's gotta be some sacrifice.

While I generally like Sawano's music, I don't feel he's a good fit for a game like Xenoblade. I'd love to hear him do a soundtrack for a Platinum game, where his bombast style would shine, but I want Mitsuda back for Xenoblade 3.

Imma stick up for X's music here. I thought it fit the game really well generally. Even the wacky stuff, X is a pretty wacky game at times.

I think asking for a particular composer is jumping the gun a little right now, we don't know the setting or tone they're going for in the new game.

Omg. Okay, I'll explain this as calmly and clearly as possible...

So...Soraya Saga has a history of retweeting Nintendo Directs before the event happens. Turns out that every time she retweets the announcement (whether it's a day or the week before), news of Monolith Soft's game occurs at the event.

I have gathered info that she retweeted the following events, all of which Xenoblade Chronicles X made an appearance:

-Wii U Direct on January 23, 2013
-Nintendo Direct @ E3 2013
-E3 Digital Event 2014
-Nintendo Direct (November 5, 2015)

Based on Soraya Saga's history and looking at her latest retweets (NCL, NoA, & NoE) of the Switch Presentation, there's a possibility that Monolith Soft will be presenting their next project at the event!

Omggg. I remember how we would wait to see if she would retweet any Nintendo Directs for new XCX news or character in Smash.

I mean to me this pretty much tells me their new game will be there!! Omg hype deluxe

And? People isn't stupid. Everybody knows the meaning of "Party".

It would seem like two totally different games in people's mind. Knowing the meaning of the word has nothing to do with it. Are you a native spanish speaker? I don't know why this is such a big deal, they are clearly not going to use that dumb name lol.

Actually the only thing I was alluding to was the Monolith game, but I realized I don't know for a fact it will be there.

Other than that, things I have heard exist are all bog-standard titles that aren't hard guesses/have been shown already: Mario, Splatoon, etc.

Don't know anything personally about BG&E2 but Laura Dale's getting her info from Ubi for a reason so I'd believe it.

But is the Monolith game another Xenoblade or an entirely new JRPG this time? Or one they made before like Xenosaga or Baten Kaitos.

My guess is another Xenoblade. Why would they stop making further Xenoblade games after XCX? The Xenoblade series is a relatively new and valuable Nintendo IP that has the potential to attract a much larger fanbase on the Switch. Why start all over with a new RPG when they have the Xenoblade series?

For creative reasons. They might wanna do something new in terms of setting, story, gameplay, etc. Takahashi definitely sounds like he wants to try new things at every opportunity based on the interviews.

That said they might still keep the Xenoblade title for name recognition like the Final Fantasy series. Or at least the Xeno- prefix, which Takahashi himself says is like a calling card.

True, but the weird thing is, I'd LOVE a true Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with Shulk and GOAT Reyn back as the leads. I guess XBX felt awkward being this weird successor to XB and not have any story-relation but retained most of the key gameplay, and the title to boot (why the X mystery if it was just another XB game then? I'll never know).

I've gotten back to XB on Wii U eShop after 4 years and it's so fucking good. Even decided to start a new file despite being at I think level 24 in the party and I've already passed it by a mile in much quicker time.

Reyn time is always a great time.

Actually XB2 would make so much sense post-Smash 4 since MILLIONS now know who Shulk is...

Wait why wouldn't it be from a real game? Are people actually thinking it's not a real game?

Everyone from the development partners list is making at least one game. It was the same as with Wii U and 3DS, just a much larger list this time.

Thing is, a few of the listed 3DS games like Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy and Saint's Row: Drive-By got cancelled, and Konami was listed for Wii U but never put out a single game IIRC. However, it was rumored I think that they were making a Deca Sports game for Wii U funny enough. Might've been true and it was just cancelled.

Edit: DP...

Hmmmm... they technically released VC titles, but I guess that's true that we never saw a retail game.

Well, at the very least we should be able to say everyone on the Switch list is planning to release a Switch game at the moment.

They can't duplicate the sidequests in quantity with a strong story, but they can in quality. Xenoblade's quests have a lot of problems and might be the game's weakest point - too hard to find people, the good ones are gated behind the generic ones, slower movement, only one quest with VA, etc. In addition to the content of the quests, X has so many quality-of-life improvements with questing. Now if they can just make collectibles less annoying...

I agree, besides editing issues in the cutscenes and NLA day getting annoying, the cheese fits the game. It might be neat if a different composer for every game became a hallmark of Nintendo's Xeno games.

I would like a Baten Kaitos HD collection from Monolith, with the first game having new VA and a general tuneup to smooth out some of its roughness, but it will probably never happen.
