Ni no Kuni II has a kingdom creation system; level 5 won't be on NS at launch

“There will be many new features,” Hino said. “From the fact alone that we moved from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4, it will not be a simple RPG, and will introduce a new system focused on creating a kingdom. So yes, there will be many differences.”

on developing titles for Nintendo Switch
“We plan to make games for Nintendo Switch, but I think it’s very important to find out the best way to get the most out of the console. For that reason, we won’t have any titles at launch, but we’ll work with it as soon as we figure out how to take advantage of it.”

Nice to see they're planning to add more to the sequel. I hope they improve the battle system or make it turn based.

Nintendo can't even convince one of the 3DS' biggest supporters to work on Switch at the moment. What the actual fuck are they doing?

No wonder Nintendo is waiting until January, no one is making games for the thing.

Lol, way to jump to conclusions.

Edit:

Fucking loved dark cloud so hopefully this is in a similar light.

I hope kingdom creation is better than White Knight Chronicles's town creation. That wasn't very fun due to the amount of grinding needed to get the required materials.

Oh man I've been hungry for NNK2 news.

Kingdom creation huh? Personally hoping for something more like Suikoden and less like Dark Cloud, but either could be a great complement to classic jrpg questing.

I hope Level-5 is actually tinkering with Nintendo Switch trying to "get the most out of the console", not just taking a wait-and-see approach. Missing the launch period is fine, with a goliath like Breath of the Wild surely being available at launch.

Level 5 is said it plans to but is waiting to get the most out of it. Chill.

Sounds great. City/Kingdom building seems like such an obvious evolution to the series that I'm surprised I never thought about it before!

Side note. I'm playing Dragon Quest 8 for the first time, and it really shows how charming level 5 developed titles can be.

Have they revealed how it's tied to the first one if at all. Haven't played the first one and heard it's a bit of a grind so will probably skip but might not if it's needed for this game.

Hope this is more Dark Cloud than White Knight Chronicles.
I hope they also improve on combat heavily(pls give monsters turn rate so speedsters are actually worth something) and rework the shitty 100% luck capture system(not hopeful though since... yokai watch....).

I still love Ni no Kuni but there is lots of places it could improve.

The main game is not really grindy if you don't want it to be. That said if you want to do all sidequest yeah luck can screw you over grinding wise.
It's a super charming game with lots of flaws system wise.

I'm pretty sure Ni no Kuni II is an entirely new entry that won't require playing the first one. For one most sequels don't really require that + the cast being all new so far.

Given how poorly their previous franchises transitioned from DS to 3DS it probably makes sense for them to wait for one of their new IPs to be ready.

The Kingdom creation thing could be anything so it's kinda hard to comment on.

From the looks of things it takes place after the first but seems to be a different story. You're the prince trying to regain your kingdom after a coup with the help of a man from Oliver's world.

This. So much this. This is a big deal. Level-5 is one of Nintendo's major supporters on 3DS. And in 2017 Level-5 will be launching perhaps their largest franchise yet -- The Snack World.

To hear that Level-5 will be developing Snack World for 3DS, but has no plans to bring it to Switch? That's a huge red flag. The 3DS might be the Switch's biggest obstacle -- and this is evidence that devs aren't persuaded to make the jump to the new platform.

I'm always iffy about city creation systems in RPGs ever since Dark Cloud, but I think Level 5 can do something with it.

Also the switch thing is sensible, gotta get used to that platform first.

Snack World is primarily a new mobile franchise that happens to be on the 3DS. This has been their wait of developing handheld games for a while now. They probably want to see if it sticks or not before making an upgraded Switch version if there needs to be one.

Second sentence is hyperbole but it's not a good sign when one of Nintendo's biggest supporters who were on 3DS day 1 aren't going to be on there any time soon.

It's right in the OP.

Yeah but that's a nothing statement. From the sounds of it they don't even a Switch game in development which means it would be years off at best.

They haven't said anything yet.

It took me about 40hours to finish the length of most jrpgs. Not much if any grinding. The games alot of fun if you can id definitely recommend playing it.

If just so you can just walk in the Overworld while the Field theme plays :P

They said nowhere that they does not have plans to bring it to Switch. The Snack World doesn't launch until summer. The Switch releases in March.

Bringing in elements from the Dark Cloud is nice since it doesn't seem we'll be getting a DC3 anytime soon. Look forward to seeing what they do with it.

Not only you both jumped to some widly conclusions but also set a building on fire while doing so. smh

Well it doesn't sound like they're working on Switch at all at the moment so it's doubtful anything in the next year or two will be releasing on Switch.

I would be absolutely shocked if Snack World ends up being Level 5's largest franchise and for all we know it could come to the Switch since the game won't be out by then. We'll see what Level 5 has planned though.

Do you really believe this?

Can we just sit back and take in how this is Level-5's first console game in what feels like forever? Feels so surreal.

I think I could share your opinion if Level-5 wasn't in the list of partners published with the Switch reveal video.

And, after all, they could easily have something to be ready by late 2017, which isn't "at launch." If we won't hear of them in the entire 2017, then it would sound alarming.
