So uh, Titanfall 2 Campaign is amazing

IMO it's not even that short. It's "short" in the same way Vanquish was short - six hours long, but it's like six hours of playing a bullet hell shooter. That's actually a bit of a lengthy game for the kind of engagement the player is involved in.

There aren't many non-interactive cut scenes in Titanfall 2's campaign. It's mostly constant forward movement with in-line communication of the story and plot. Since the player is almost always doing something interesting, it feels satisfying. Plus the campaign plays with concepts that are fully fleshed out in each of its 8 chapters that many other games would devote 2 or 3 chapters to because they were afraid of overwhelming the average player with too many new ideas too quickly.

And that can lead to great twists and turns, like suddenly having the crazy shit in chapter 4 thrust upon you and you just have to deal with it.

Most importantly I want to play the levels again just to play them, because they are a real game and fun, rather than filler to reach cutscenes.
Alright you got me. I'm a sucker for great, replayable campaigns. Bought.

Hate to rain on anyone's parade but the Boss fights are main negative sticking point for me. It's everything people stereotype western Developers to design- uninspiring and conpensated with adds.

The only ones that stood out to me were Ash and Viper- Ash as she
taunts you throughout the whole level
and Viper for being
an actual flying Titan
, none have to do with the any actual boss mechanics

The bosses were just multiplayer battles against AI. They were all pretty much identical. I liked Richter though, for obvious reasons.

I wouldn't have minded some variety. Such as fighting one on foot, setting a trap and then rodeo or something.

Also to add on, the definitely did go with the Super Mario 3D World where they introduce a new key element per level. Explore it during the level than kind of up the difficulty challenging your skills with the element.

They than introduce a new element in the next level and drop the old one all together.

Feels fresh throughout the whole campaign.

It's a really great campaign with fantastic pacing and level design, but the actual enemies leave a lot to be desired.

At the very least, though, that means it still it stands head and shoulders above things like CoD4 and Half Life 2 as far as actually *playing* a game goes.

I remember when some people were saying a singleplayer campaign in a game like this didn't matter.

The main point that people were trying to repeatedly hammer home is that Titanfall never needed a single player, but I think most (sane) people recognize that the original Call of Duty developers fully had it in them to make a strong campaign.

And frankly, given the inconsistent quality and low amount of maps in the multiplayer, I can't see how shifting focus to the single player didn't adversely affect the MP.

Really interested but realistically I won't have time to play the multi with BF1 already so I'll have to wait for the inevitable sale.

Sure, but given how well they did almost everything else (scenario encounters and puzzles) it just makes the uninspired boss fights stand out even more for me.

Since online MP usually only sticks with me for a relatively short while, I won't buy it full priced, 6 hours is too short for that. Some of my favourite (indie) gaming experiences are around that time and on itself 6 hours is enough for a great experience, but just not at that price.

I'm sure it is from a gameplay perspective, but without the story and characters to back it up, it puts it far below Wolfenstein for me. I liked Doom as well, but that's another game that I have no desire to experience again after beating it because of how bare the story and characters were.

Rip and tear until it's done motherfucker

I think the interactions between BT and Cooper are easily the best part but yeah everything else surrounding it is kind of eh.

Hopefully the next game focuses on Cooper doing missions with the other pilots that show up near the end.

Ugh. I'm gonna have to buy this, huh?

I went with B1 because I remember the beta impressions of this game being poor so it kind of fell off my radar.

Glad to hear it's awesome, though.

Clever level design and well paced as fuck all the way through. Do try it!

*I swear there were some blatant CoD 4 SP homages in the last 2 levels that made me scream internally.

It's like the thoughtfulness of Portal's level design and writing mixed with Prince of Persia.

This but also add Portal's quality of animations. The way they animate BT in the campaign adds so much character and personality to him, it's awesome. Very reminiscent of the work Valve did with Wheatly and GLaDOS.

Respawn deserves special credit for THIS above all else: making a single player game that's just so fun to replay.

We really need less campaigns that you play once and never really have much desire to revisit (looking at you, Last of Us).

I was thinking the same thing. Especially the way they animate his eye.

ugh...this thread pushed me over the edge and I just bought it on PSN. For the record I loved DOOM 2016 but did not care for Wolfenstein TNO.

DOOM 2016 is still ever so slightly better in terms of pure exhilarating action and how they designed the combat, but I must say Titanfall 2 exceeds it in some areas. Level design is better, traversal is better, storytelling is way better. I really thought Doom wouldn't be rivaled in the SP area for a long time to come.

Cool, I'll probably pick it up for cheap at some point next year. Not much of an MP gamer.

Same. I'll get it at some point.

It looks fantastic. But MP isn't my thing.

Also, quick look at my friends list (PS4) reveals 51 active players, not a single one playing TF2. I considered getting it on PC (very cheap) but, I have my doubts about the longevity of the PC community following TF1, and being sandwiched between BF1 and CoD.

It's as good or better single player experience as any AAA game that has come out in recent memory. It would be worth $60 as a stand alone experience.

The fact it has a massively fleshed out multiplayer experience included is mind blowing.

This is easily the best first player game of the generation thus far. Anyone holding off for price or multiplayer reasons is missing out completely on a game that is worth the price honestly.

I really liked the campaign, though it certainly could have been fleshed out more with regards to
avenging the death of your mentor and dealing with the offer (?) to be a mercenary
though the door seems open for future story content.

One nice thing I liked about the campaign was the Star Fox-esque enemy pilot chatter.

I just spent $40 on a bunch of horror games!

...Another $60 isn't too bad I guess...

best fps campaign since wolfenstein no. its just a tiny bit better than doom.

for people that are worried about the length of the campaign: dont be.
the game has zero filler. none. after the tutorial, its 5 hours of awesome.

and finding/getting to the collectibles is awesome. they almost reminded me of the orbs from crackdown.

No opinion one way or the other as I'm still in the first level, but I'll say right away that the game showing you were to jump next every time you're like 2.5 s in the same spot is beyond lame. Will see were it goes from here but Half Life 2? Yeah right.
