So uh, Titanfall 2 Campaign is amazing

So for someone that mainly plays single player content, this or Battlefield?

This for sure. There's little cohesion in Battlefield's Campaign. It's good, but it's basically just different Skirmishes to showcase what they did for the multiplayer.

This is a straight up single-player experience that tells a story and has very high highs, and somehow holds onto them until the finale.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I have Zero interest, but I'll give it a rental to play through the campaign. Maybe try to Redbox it over my thanksgiving break.

I'm most of the way through it now. It feels like they crossed Call of Duty with something Capcom or Platinum might make. There is an oddly Japanese feeling about the story mode.

It might be the enemy variety, it might be the fast gameplay, the art direction kinda looks like Vanquish or Lost Planet. I think what it really might be though is the sort of humble production value which gives me the impression Titanfall 2 had a considerably lower budget than Infinite Warfare or Battlefield 1, so Respawn had to go back to presenting it like a PS2-era game except with some things it learned from making the Modern Warfare games. A big standout is how Titanfall 2 has regular loading screens. It doesn't use cut scenes or some other barely interactive thing (like slowly walking down a hallway) to hide the loading screens. Maybe what happened was that EA felt confident about its quarterly earnings because of Battlefield 1, so Respawn ended up getting a bit more creative freedom (and a smaller budget) to do what it wanted to do with Titanfall 2, and the result was a short but shockingly creative story mode.

Where it ranks alongside Wolfenstein and DOOM for me is probably gonna depend on its replayability. I beat Wolfenstein at least three times to get all the stuff and just because I wanted to. I still want to go back and play DOOM. If I end up wanting to start up Titanfall 2 again after finishing the campaign I'll probably buy it on PC. Right now though DOOM feels like it was the meatier game in terms of what all there is in it.

Given the relationship between the development teams, it's gonna be very interesting to see how Infnite Warfare's campaign stacks up.

Edit: Titanfall 2 would definitely be a must--buy for me if it had a survival mode of some kind.
EA doesn't own Respawn and the Titanfall IP so they always had creative freedom.

So... what exactly stands out in this campaign? Is it the plot? Setpieces? Level design?

Set Pieces and Level Design. Because the Pilot and Titan Mechanics are incredibly versatile, it gives Respawn incredible versatility for level design that's engaging and disguises its scripting incredibly well.

Wait, seriously!!? Well bollocks. This is hard to just quell.

Was thinking of which FPS to get before finally deciding to wait on all of 'em, but just now seeing the ripple this has caused, I'm finally intrigued enough to put this first on the list. Did not think the comparisons to Valve were serious at first, lol, but if this is getting enough acclaim to contest even DOOM for shooter of the year then I'm in.

Really? I'm two levels in and I'm not feeling it. Some platforming bits but so far it's a typical CoD campaign with stupid AI.

I'm way more into the MP.

Not including the tutorial level there's eight in the campaign. One is a decent intro. Two and three are fine. Four, Effect and Cause, is OUTSTANDING and the highlight for me. Introduces a new mechanic they should have built the game around. Five has another neat mechanic. The last three just go balls out, were real intense. People are gushing over it but the campaign was just above average for me.

Wolfenstein: The New Order and Doom were a cut above it but it easily trumps the last few Call of Dutys and Battlefields.

That final level is insane. Its a fully player controlled set piece. Thats just wow.

Its similar to the platforming at the end of Prince of Persia forgotten Sands, but with more player control.

Edit: As for the overall game. Think Mirrors Edge x Vanquish. + Some cool mech sections.

The assembly line level alone puts it far above 95% of FPS campaigns recently.

DICE should be fucking embarrassed that the "campaign" they had in BF1 came out a week before TF2s

Just posting to agree, really.

Wonderful campaign, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, and I certainly didn't expect to be surprised by the ways they kept it fresh throughout.

Didn't expect Doom to have a rival for best fps single player campaign this year, either.

Honestly surprised to see this, but I'm happy it turned out well. All of the ore release trailers made it look very derivative and uninspired.

Will keep an eye out for a good deal on the game at some point in the future.

I'm thinking of selling No Man's Sky, Overwatch (I cannot handle the addiction), and maybe the Witcher 3 to get this game.

Glad to hear the campaign is excellent, because I am worried about the PS4 multiplayer base lasting anything more than a few months.

I played it for two hours yesterday and was blown away. I haven't been blown away by a shooter's campaign since Modern Warfare.

So much polish and variety. A lot of parts reminded me of Portal 2. It's great. The multiplayer beta bummed me out as a HUGE fan of the first game and I still haven't played Titanfall 2's multiplayer yet but the campaign is amazing and (at least so far) is worth the price of the game alone.

That isn't very long.

Wasn't half life 2 way longer?

The game isn't really long, but it does many things and as a result feels satisfying. The thing is, there's no filler and you move really fast, so you're running from setpiece to setpiece. It's like a condensed campaign, hitting all the high notes without all the walking and talking in between.

Playing through the Campaign again on Hard this time. Yeah, you have so much more freedom here than Master. I'd advise people to play on Hard even if you usually play games at the highest difficulty for the first time.

I'm immersed still. It's quite amazing actually.

But this game doesn't waste time making you walk about a city talking to people, or finding your way out of Ravenholm.

The fact that you can finish this game in one sitting is a good thing, because you're not gunna wanna put it down.

Well, sir, you got yourself a deal! Downloading now

Are we only expecting multiplayer DLC, or do you think Respawn will add new solo/offline modes after seeing the reactions and praise towards the campaign?

How does the higher difficulty offer more freedom?

Master is higher than hard, he lowered it

Huh...is the multiplayer good? I've never played online competitively that much but the free-running + mech combat looks pretty cool. Easy for a newcomer to get into?
A nice thing about Titanfall MP is that a lot of the modes have AI scattered around so you can always shoot some stuff and feel pretty good.

Pair that with the awesome traversal system in some brilliantly designed maps, you can have a fun time even if you're not doing so well.

Hard is easier than Master.

I've played my first play through on Hard mode and it's relatively balanced, speaking from someone that doesn't play a lot of fps. I assume playing on normal or less wouldn't give you any reason to try out stuff.

Congrats!

I'm expecting something along the lines of Frontier Defense. That was a Horde-like mode. I'd like to see it have it's own progression but even if not, it'd be great if it'd play like the Campaign fights a little more.

This won't mean anything to you rn, but a merc mode with 6-4s with their own progression system, playing like Frontier Defense? Man, I wouldn't play anything else.

Sorry, I worded that poorly. There is a difficulty called Master which is the hardest.
Easy - Normal - Hard - Master

Yep. I'm early in the campaign but the quality on show and the fun I'm having is terrific so far. I keep telling my friends about it but they're being dismissive after dropping cash on BF1 and Skyrim. I told them they're missing out when they loved Doom and even tried making my own quick movie via Share Factory to try and convince them. No dice yet. =/

I haven't even fired up multiplayer yet.

I've been somewhat interested in Titanfall since seeing the first game, because who wouldn't be interested in first-person parkour and human + giant mech battles, but I don't play really multiplayer in anything. So the campaign really pushed me over the fence here

The length and praise of the set-pieces helped too. I love awesome set pieces in games, and I tend to replay my favorites. Shorter games help with that too.
