Captain Simian sadly came around when cartoons on network tv were dying. But it was ahead of it's time. It was a smartly written satire of just about every space scifi trope out there. Plus it had Malcom McDowell as a batshit henchman that threw brains at people and made horrible puns about.

Another show that kind of got lost in the shuffle. It was a police precudral set in a middle school. But it took it all the way, you snitches, shady factions, CSI shit, etc. And Filmore himself was stone cold

Filmore is still my favourite procedural. All of the cheese in easy to digest 20 minute chunks, wrapped in a unique, well executed setting.

Captain Simian was my shit.
Weren't you too old for Fillmore?
I watched it too.

Edit: All of the syndicated cartoons during the 90's were great.

Filmore is spectacular and I still talk about it from time to time. Never heard of the Captain Simian show, however.

Dude, was Captain Simian the show that had the episode where they learned their entire universe was a Dream of some Sentient Being? If so, I remember it being awesome as a kid.

The only thing I've ever seen of that sci-fi monkey cartoon was that I bought a toy of the spider monkey from it when I was younger. I'd never watched or heard of it, but the monkey with a sort of mechanical leg walker thing was cool looking.

Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys was such a good show, just put on a network that wasn't the most watched (UPN for those who remember it). Their only other shows of note were the Jumanji animated series (which got old fast) and The Incredible Hulk cartoon which had an amazing first season. Filmore was way better than it should've been. Honestly, it was better than the shows it was satirizing. When it made a mystery, the show made it a mystery. Sometimes, I couldn't figure it out, but by the end, it made sense. Yeah, it had it's episodes of obvious who done it was obvious, but most were really well done.

I never watched much Filmore 'cause I was about 13 at the time and wasn't watching much cartoons, but I did catch it from time to time and remember thinking it was real cool

Gramps, pls..

Filmore was great, that school had everything, swimming pool, huge fields, packed science labs, golf buggies. I was goddamn jealous of their funding.

I remember Captain Simian had the villain that was basically a white head on top of a body made of outerspace.

Filmore was absolutely brilliant, they really made the perfect procedural for kids, the fact that the characters took everything in a 100% serious straight value just enhanced the fun.
