Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Finally got time to purchase something from the perks at work store and it appears the samsung store is having issues with checking out items for purchase... :(

Got my shipping notification for the 60" KS8000 and it said weight 109 lbs, that's gotta be off right? Fuck dragging that up to my 5th floor walk-up.

I ordered the 65 inch..my shipping weight shows 117 or something crazy like that. The specs online thought show shipping weight at 67 ish.

Yeah not sure why the shipping weight is so high

Got my shipping notice, 67 lbs lol, who is your shipping service? Mines through AGS, never heard of em.

Kind of annoying it's not fedex or ups, I'll have to be home to accept.

Mine shipped earlier this week as well (65 inch) and its listed at 119 pounds. Very weird, as t should be about 67

You need to use Rtings black uniformity test pattern to actually see. Pretty sure in all black screen it pretty much does turn off

What's so special about the Rtings pattern that any backlight bleeding will suddenly appear from nowhere? Nah, I'm over the moon with this panel and have no intention of going out of my way looking for faults :)

Two things: While I'm sure he's in a position to know more than some people, he isn't the final authority on what is or is not in the works. And second, I'll still gladly take the extra input lag if it means I get the amazing picture quality that comes along with the OLED screen.

I do think it's smart though to not expect improvement, and if there is a FW update later that lowers input lag it will be a pleasant surprise.

That's why I said what was claimed and who claimed it. I didn't say it was LG, I didn't say it was official. It's up to you what you do with the info, but it's pertinent information regardless.

But at basically the same time, a dude at AVSForums received an email from LG Support stating the exact same thing Vincent Teoh was claiming; HDR Game Mode was off the table. LG engineers couldn't make it work with current hardware.

Nobody knows what the future might bring, but I know some here were expecting HDR Game Mode in the near future, and that's just not happening anymore.

Going to a store later today, just wondering what I should look for really...

4K
HDR
60hz+

Anything that I'm missing that would be important for gaming?
Probably won't go higher than 10000kr which is about 1100 dollars.

Thanks!

You should look for a TV called the Samsung KS7000 and just buy that one.

I know that everyone is raving about the KS-series from Samsung here but I have some spare money and would really like to have a OLED display.
Does anyone have the LG OLED55B6 series and is it good for gaming, especially the latency?

Wait so what is the model needed in UK
KS8000 or KS9000

Yea, I was confused at this as well.
Bit stupid for Samsung to just use a lower number for the UK / EU model for the same TV as the KS8000, but bought the KS7000 myself from Richer Sounds and waiting for it to turn up next week.

The latency is average for gaming. In HDR mode, it's at the limit of being acceptable.

Just got my Sony 43X800D in preparation for PS4 Pro next week. Does anyone have any good settings to share? Should I be using game mode?

Curved OLEDs are pretty great, they don't suffer from the issues that other curved screens do. Take a look at one in the store, and if you like it then get it! As a bonus, the C has a better processor than the B and has 3D which the B does not.
I understand OLED doesn't have the inherent issues of a curved screen unlike LED, but I just dislike the very idea of it. They're the same price here where I'm at ($2,000), so it's really down to that difference (curved or not), the variable input lag of the B6P, no HDR for Game Mode, and no Android TV that's stopping me really.

I was contemplating the Sony one, I think it's the XD8006 in Europe? But I'm having doubts between the 43 and the 49 inch one because of the different use in panel. Could you clarify it for me?
The main difference is viewing angles and static contrast. VA will have better static contrast, but the IPS will have a much lesser loss of saturation when viewed at an angle (or off-axis viewing as someone has already said). Check out the video on rtings.com for an example of saturation loss on off-angle viewing. If it wasn't such a hassle of returning the XBR49X800D (I bought it from an online retailer), I would have slimmed down and gotten the 43" instead because I value the better contrast after viewing the 49", but I chose size prioritizing guest viewing.

I thought they do that in 55" as well? Assuming its the same as the 8007 in the UK?
Not sure. I haven't looked deeply into it as I would have probably gotten a KS8000 if the leg stands weren't an immediate issue honestly. Wall mounting was out of the question and replacing the TV stand wasn't either, so the price point and TV stand of the X800D made the difference in my decision.

Are there currently ANY 4KTVs that fulfill the expectations for 4K gaming without any of the downsides? It seems like the TVs that keep getting mentioned in these threads come with cons that keep me from jumping in, like how the KS8000 has motion blur or how most OLEDs have huge input lag when using HDR.

How is the Sony XD93? Price-wise it seems about £500 more than the x800, but is it worth the extra?

God yes. Sony just released a firmware update that halved the input lag on the set with HDR down to 58ms too. A friend of mine who's a dealer for them told me they have two more updates coming to address the issue further.

It's a great set and PQ wise, I thought it was overall a better set than the KS8000. It completely blows away the x800. (I'm assuming the XD93 is the equivalent of the X930D here in the states).

4K or not, buying a TV is all about the pros and cons. What are you willing to live with and what's a deal breaker? It's been that way forever. Even back to the days of plasma vs LED, etc. Its no different here and ts exacerbated by the fact that we're still at the ground level with HDR, etc.

2017 sets may bring the holy grail of 4K TV's. It's why some are choosing to wait. If your jumping in now, you've gotta do your research and see which set checks the most boxes for you.

VERY RELEVANT for people wanting to buy a 2016 LG OLED:

HDTVTest's Vincent Teoh has claimed on Twitter that LG has no HDR + Game Mode firmware update in the pipeline.

That means you'll have to settle for the current input lag numbers; they will not get better in the foreseeable future.

Consider your purchases accordingly.
Well, on the B6 at least, HDR mode performs the same or better than standard mode. Most modes come in ~44ms or so which still feels responsive.

You really have to test it yourself and find your own acceptance and tolerance levels. A number can only say so much about how you perceive that as an noticeable issue or not. It's very much an issue dependent on an individual person's threshold. I'm okay with 50 ms of input lag personally. Some others need something like 20 ms that the KS8000 offers.

Basically, I just want to make sure whatever 4K TV I get is a full improvement over my current TV: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCGRLUI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

It would have to be an improvement in all areas, not just 4K content. If anyone can name some current 4K TVs that also offer an improvement to 1080p and so on based on what I have, I would appreciate the reference.

This is more or less the upgraded version of your TV with similar specs.

And this is the high end version of that.

No 2016 Samsung model is going to have 3D though, keep that in mind.

A poster from another thread said that the KS8000 series had worse 1080p output compared to my TV, so I'm hesitant on that.

What's your current TV? The rating for HD content on the rtings.com review was stellar for the KS8000 and my limited experience with our 65" model confirms that. Though I haven't been able to put it side by side with our four-year old 1080p set (they're in different states), I thought it was a clear improvement in brightness and black level.

So much so that I'm still really tempted to pick up a 55" as well. Tempting. Really tempting, especially now that I've found someone who wants the older set.

I had the chance to check out an LG OLED demo yesterday.
I must admit, it really is something else. I have never seen LED demo with 4K+HDR before so I don't know if it's only by the OLED, but the picture is really life like.

I can truly understand now way better how hard it is to sell 4K+HDR without seeing it in real life.

After this I feel that 8-16K displays with 12,000NITS will hit the uncanny valley between real life. Really great stuff ! But now I feel I won't enjoy the PRO that much on my 1080p plasma as I would with HDR (which strike me as more important then the 4K resolution).

From one end I am hyped, on the other I just have a hard time to gather funds to upgrade my TV set. :(

No problem. I thought the same thing myself as I bought the Sony X800D to tide myself over until things were more sorted (it's not working). Besides no HDR in Game Mode right now for the OLED55B6P, what else is killing me about getting the B6P and getting a 2016 LG OLED right now is the variable input lag in HDR. It's one thing for input lag to be high, but if it's variable, that would bug me way more. It's why I might consider the C6P curve instead if I do get one. I can live with 50 ms.

variable input lag? what the fuck

I think something to keep in mind is that you want low input lag, 4K, HDR and a good price when discussing potential televisions. There are many, many better options than the KS8000 or X800D but you are going to find they cost 4x the price, have double the input lag which for gaming can make a difference. Ideally we all would want to game on a 75" Sony Z9D or LG OLED, but if the gaming is affected, is it worth it. Not to say you cannot game with high input lag. We have been gaming for years with shit televisions and high lag, many of you will never even notice a difference between 22 ms or 60ms etc. But many also will.

One of the coolest things about VR has been essentially no input lag, I'm so much better at Thumper than I thought I'd be. People say it gets brutally difficult and I haven't had any issues so far playing exclusively in VR.

If you play fighting or shooters competitively I'd worry about input lag but other than that it really isn't going to harm any single player experiences as long as it isn't horrendously bad. But even rhythm games like Rock Band you can adjust to.

Alright have $4000 to use up on a 4K TV
$5000 is limit

Looking at least 65+", maybe 75", < 80"

I'm out of LG 77" $20,000 range lol

So what am I really looking for
Can wait for Black Friday or Hell even when SuperBowl Weekend comes around

Would love an OLED @75", but the input lag turns me off

So Sony I'm guessing is best bet?
lemme get like $50 brah

My TV arrived today, not opening until the 10th though.

Why? Could still enjoy some nice 4K content if it's a smart TV in the mean time. Watch them 4K game trailers (:

How long does Samsung take to ship out the TV once the order is received? I ordered mine on their website yesterday.

Mine "shipped" the same day and received a notification yesterday. Likely they just created a shipping notice and it finally started moving yesterday. But AGS has crap tracking and this is all I see for now (I love that their system is copyrighted 1999):

So I've been in to John Lewis in town and pervd over the Sony and Samsung screens. All beautiful. Then I notice that the 55" XD93 on display doesn't look great.

It only had an rf lead plugged in. No hdmi. Just rf. Like. What.

Wife is saying wait for the new year to buy a bigger one in a sale lol.

What are the supposed issues with the KS8000 60"? I think 65 is a bit too big for my room in my apt and 60 is the perfect size. I just dont want to get a dud if its being manufactured eslewhere.

As looking around and speaking to some people, the complaints have been that the Sharp panel that comes with the 60 "isn't as good" as the panels in the other sizes. Some other reports I've seen were more light bleeding reports vs 65, now I cannot say this is true but like you I was concerned. I have convinced myself that 65 will fit, even though it is going to look glorious, it might be too big for me..... but screw it lol.

As a poster from GAF stated, he didn't want to chance it and just shelved the extra cash for the possibility of having a better quality. So its completely up to you, but I am aiming for 65 after almost chasing 60

Yeaaaah I could but I kinda want the 10th to feel like some kinda extra birthday/christmas lol. Only have a PS3 currently also, so happy to wait for my Pro.

Also I'm disabled and can't hook it all up by myself atm.

Mine shipped as well. Through AGS...tracking just says the 'Alerted: in transit' and then 'Status:in transit'

Not sure exactly what that means. Just hope I get it by Thursday for the Pro. I got shipping notification on 10/31.

Edit: Curious what the 'departed' part of your tracking implies?

Figured this would be a good place to ask this.

Since my TV only does HDR on one of the HDMI ports would this be a good solution?

http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15262

Just not sure it has all the correct specs to make sure I still get the proper 4k 60hz etc. Seems to indicate so but I am leery.

Wish we could have a ranking of the most recommended 4K TVs, as well as whatever pros/cons they have.

I might still bite the bullet and get a KS8000 this weekend from Best Buy. What are BB's policies regarding price drops from now until Black Friday?

And are there any TVs on sale at Best Buy that might be better than the KS8000 (while costing a little more)?

And is 60 inches highly recommended for 4K? My current TV is 55, but I don't mind going 5 inches more if it's that big a difference.

And again, for reference this is my current TV: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCGRLUI/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I could probably sell it on Craigslist for roughly the amount listed here, so just help educate me on picking the best TV within the price range (or if I should still wait it out).
