Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Alright have $4000 to use up on a 4K TV
$5000 is limit

Looking at least 65+", maybe 75", < 80"

I'm out of LG 77" $20,000 range lol

So what am I really looking for
Can wait for Black Friday or Hell even when SuperBowl Weekend comes around

Would love an OLED @75", but the input lag turns me off

So Sony I'm guessing is best bet?

Got my shipping notification for the 60" KS8000 and it said weight 109 lbs, that's gotta be off right? Fuck dragging that up to my 5th floor walk-up.

All the ones I see are brighter at the top and bottom. That's not the case with you?

Mine has kind of a faint maybe half a centemeter at the top that can be lighter when the screen is all one color, but I can't see it unless I look directly at the bezel. When the screen is black or for black bars on movies, it is not present. I'd say it shows up maybe 10 percent of the time, but again, you have to be looking for it to notice, it's very slight.

Got my shipping notice, 67 lbs lol, who is your shipping service? Mines through AGS, never heard of em.

Kind of annoying it's not fedex or ups, I'll have to be home to accept.

Consider the Samsung 9800, amazing TV without the shitty backlight issues due to using a better method for lighting the pixels. Lowest input lag available to boot. Picture is amongst the best in class.

Nope, pure black playing a backlight bleed test video on YouTube. You'd think it was turned off if the Samsung logo wasn't illuminated. Got very lucky I guess.

You need to use Rtings black uniformity test pattern to actually see. Pretty sure in all black screen it pretty much does turn off

So errr...I went over to Best Buy and they had the LG B6 OLED out being demo'd with an Xbox One S and Gears 4. It dropped down to $1999 for the 55in.

I'm picking mine up tomorrow after the manager approved my return of the KS8000...

*dashes away in shame*

For once in my life, I decided to be patient.:)

Days since last bout of impatience: 0

Jk, enjoy. I'd do the same if I hadn't spent two grand a week ago on a trip to London and a PSVR the week before that. Can't always have the best :/

lol indeed.

I was actually content to wait and then I saw the HDR performance in Gears and even uncalibrated it put anything I've seen on the KS8000 to shame. I looked at my wife and just said "I'm sorry, babe but know that I love you dearly."

Input lag didn't bother me at all which was another consideration I had worried about.

So what's the better tv for gaming/picture? The LG OLED or samsung ks8000? I don't play many FPS so input lag isn't the biggest thing to me. I don't necessarily want a horrible input lag that's super noticeable though lol. Going to best buy on Saturday and was going to get the ks8000 but I'd switch to the oled if it's a better tv.

Haha, my wife has been encouraging me to buy some toys but I know there is a "limit" somewhere in there. I think $4k in less then a month is probably approaching that and she knows I'm already getting a NS on launch (:

I'm jealous, OLED rocks, I'd take picture over input lag too. You have a S or getting a Pro? I'm considering getting an S on Black Friday just as a UHD player.

I've tried out some gaming HDR content and the input lag is fine for me on the C6 OLED. I'd still like to see it lowered, but I really don't notice much of a difference versus my PC monitor (Predator X34). Could be because I'm using a gamepad and not mouse though.

man if I had 5 Gs to spend on a TV...it's so late in the year... I'd try to find a good deal on a $2000-$2500 TV for $1200-$1700

then use it until early next year for the new LG OLEDS.

sell your TV + that $3000-4000 you saved...and get a SUPER TV next year. There might be some surprise totally new announcement at CES in January.

I just get this feeling that LG's new OLEDs next year won't have that $5000-$8000 starting price..like the 2015/16 ones did.

I'm personally thinking of getting the LG C6 for now.. (probably 55" only because I might not keep it long term if I can't deal with input lag for gaming)

edit-

well then. Maybe I'll go for the 65" :D

still curious though of 4K HDR tests.

Is this through Samsung's website? I haven't gotten my notification yet. And yeah 109 lbs sounds not right lol

I have the Sammy UHD player, the S and my Pro is shipping from Amazon next week.

Honestly, the Input lag playing Gears didn't bother me one bit as mentioned.

The Sony Z9D are the best in the market right now, slightly above your limit but you should check it out ;)

Look at KS9800. There's a 75", and I think it's about $2800. Samsung's highest end model, full array backlighting.

Cool options, thanks for the responses

I don't trust Samsung TVs at all, even with Curved and Quantum Dot bullshit
Just iffy on them due to "panel and bleeds" talks

Sony ZD9 looks real good, hoping to see the 75" to drop just a little

As I stated not in a rush, if amazing deal for Black Friday I'll pull the trigger
If not got CES in January, then see again around SuperBowl if not I'll wait till refrsh of 2017 model arrives

Really want a 70+ OLED with small input delay if possible

Sony XBR75Z9D looks Superb, but $9,000 at the moment...
={
Will wait for you beautiful

Ks8000 or go home bare minimum

Too minimum for me. Which is why I went to the shit tier KU6290.

Gotta have full 12 bit 4:4:4 4k60hz support, gimme that display port 1.4.

120hz at 1080

HDR10 and Dolby.

This TV doesn't exist.

Oh I also want it 50" for ~$1000.

See you guys in like 5 years lol

I'm really happy to hear that since my C6 is arriving tomorrow! I'll have to wait until the Pro releases to test out the lag for HDR though since I don't have a XB1 or normal PS4.

If you're lucky, you could try and convince Best Buy to price match Buydig's bundle offer of a free UHD BD player. They're selling the OLED55B6P the same price with a special offer, which is that player.

Only available in the curved version, which is complete madness, or I might have seriously considered it. The improvements in the 9000 aren't worth it to me over the 8000, but full array backlighting might have done the trick — if it were flat.

God I'm on the verge of snatching a 55" ks8000 from Best Buy, they're currently $1,199. Its taking all my self control, but I really want to see the Black Friday ads first. I'm gonna lose it if I buy one then they go even cheaper in 3 weeks.

Thanks for the heads up. I may do that!
No problem. I thought the same thing myself as I bought the Sony X800D to tide myself over until things were more sorted (it's not working). Besides no HDR in Game Mode right now for the OLED55B6P, what else is killing me about getting the B6P and getting a 2016 LG OLED right now is the variable input lag in HDR. It's one thing for input lag to be high, but if it's variable, that would bug me way more. It's why I might consider the C6P curve instead if I do get one. I can live with 50 ms.

Indeed. I'm not as sensitive to input lag so while it was a concern, I'm ok to live with it. Amusing story - I played The Last of Us with HDR enabled for nearly two hours last night on the KS8000 without engaging game mode and I didn't even notice. That's something like 100+ ms?

So as far as me and input lag are concerned after that....

giphy.gif

It's obviously not but you get my meaning in terms of my own sensitivity to it.:)

Nothing cheaper? I just want legit hdr with low input lag. I never cared about having the "perfect" picture.
If you want the closest to HDR and 55 inch , it's pretty much the KS8000. HDR right now is not 100% of BT. 2020 yet, which is probably a few years away. A cheaper alternative is the Sony X800D, but your options are 43 and 49 inches with a VA and IPS panel respectively.

Definitely. I have a pretty high tolerance of input lag since I owned a Panasonic Plasma before for years and enjoyed it immensely (it's why I'm willing to sacrifice performance for better picture quality) until it developed an unfortunate defect. I'm okay with that amount of input lag. But variable input lag would be incredibly off-putting for me. It's why if I do buy an LG OLED, I might get a curve instead despite cursing their existence because there's still no news of LG considering HDR for Game Mode, so I'm not holding out on the B6P getting patched anytime soon.

Been looking at a KD55XD9305BU solely because with cashback its "only" £1440.

I must resist!

What's the difference between this and a Sony 55" 8088/8077 or whatever they're called on the UK? That seems a decent set and about £900. ZD9 is the one I'd really want but they don't even do a 55" in that model

Seeing everyone buying or wanting to buy 4K TVs is pretty great. I got the 65" KS8000 and I have no regrets. Now is a great time to jump in!

I bought a 4k samsung the other year, and it does not seem to have HDR.

It has something called Active crystal color, is that the same thing as HDR? not sure when reading on google.

Curved OLEDs are pretty great, they don't suffer from the issues that other curved screens do. Take a look at one in the store, and if you like it then get it! As a bonus, the C has a better processor than the B and has 3D which the B does not.

I was contemplating the Sony one, I think it's the XD8006 in Europe? But I'm having doubts between the 43 and the 49 inch one because of the different use in panel. Could you clarify it for me?

Off topic, but after looking at 4k tvs a bit, and being annoyed by the PS4 Pro+PSVR requiring an extra hdmi port and cords to also use HDR, and its bluray drive not being 4k, I think I'm just going to upgrade my old 720p to a low-input lag 1080p TV in the 39-50" range, something up to around $500ish. Any suggestions for that?

I thought they do that in 55" as well? Assuming its the same as the 8007 in the UK?

43" I think has a VA panel which is great for black levels but not so great for off-axis viewing - you need to be fairly straight on for the best picture. The other sizes apparantly have IPS panels which means the image holds up better from an angle, but slightly worse blacks.

Whether those are factors that affect you are subjective and personal to you - might be worth trying to see them in person (or at least the same kind of panels). Even IPS with 'worse' blacks should still be able to be calibrated to have decent blacks.

It goes xd80, xd83, xd85,xd93,xd94....... ZD9.

Difference between 80 and 93 seems to be backlight, more motion flow, xtended dynamic range pro and the x1 4k processor.

It's too expensive for me though.

Despite deciding I'm not getting a TV, I'm going to look at some tonight before work. I can't buy it as I need to check dimensions. My current 47" is a bit small in the room but I don't know that I can get a 55" in there and still have my floor standing speakers.

I really dislike Samsung gear but I'm even contemplating the 7000! If it's feet are too wide it won't happen though. Who bloody knows! 3 days ago I was certain I wouldn't!

Hmmm...I was getting ready to pick up the 55" KS9000 this weekend at Best Buy for $1599. Is the consensus to go with the KS8000 instead? There's a $400 difference in price...

Does anyone have a good monitor they could recommend for the PS4 pro, as I'd like to use it for my pc also

(Or a tv with pc input)

HDMI is a PC input... Or does your GPU only have Display port and DVI or something? I'd just grab a DP to HDMI converter if that was the case.

Do you want a big screen for couch gaming or like a 27" monitor for your desk?

I suggest you bring a console to the store and try the OLED. I think you'd be surprised by how responsive it is.

People overstate this issue a lot but it's something I think varies from person to person. If you play a lot of fighting games and are genuinely GREAT at them, you will be able to notice, but for most players, it's not an issue.

It's just something I think everyone should try for themselves.
