So like the single player Octogirl levels but multiplayer and unlimited?
TBH I'm not expecting any new characters for Smash at all.
If they have nothing else, sure. Though you do risk the consumer feeling they dont' need to buy another game for awhile since MK8+it's DLC is a pretty great value as is.
If the Nintendo Switch is $300 they really should consider bundling in something, but a shorter experience like Nintendo Land or Wii Sports would be better.

Honestly, it'd look pretty bad on Sakurai's part if Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 got new shit and incentives to buy them while Smash only got a dinky little straight port.
A bundle makes sense for Holiday 2017
There's like 58 characters in the game and you want more? Plus it's Smash Bros. It'll sell.
There's probably some extra content and a new mode but I think that'll be it.
As a result, the mindset I had when developing this game was that the game’s “rules” are set in stone, but the fighters themselves are very flexible and allow for new, exciting elements. The fighters themselves become the sources of new excitement. That’s why the new fighters can do things the others cannot, to bring to life a number of battles that did not previously exist. Smash is much more extravagant in its design than other fighting games, development is difficult, and I have to deal with oversight from the original creators, but I have to do my best.
Ice Climbers will be there no question. There's like 58 characters in the game and you want more? Plus it's Smash Bros. It'll sell.

You could say the same for Mario Kart 8. They don't need to add anything because "it's Mario Kart. It'll sell" (Both MK7 and MK8 outsold both Smash games this gen). And yet they're adding onto it. And yes, I want more because a fully new original Smash game is years off and I'd like to see them keep the hype train going a bit more. I don't want to wait like five years to see the Ice Climbers again...only for like 10 other characters to get cut from the roster..

I'm 100% certain it's going to have new characters, they gotta give those millions of Smash Wii U/3DS owners some incentive to upgrade. Definitely expecting an Inkling.
Racing Characters =/= Fighting game characters
So Zelda, Mario and Smash Bros at Launch for Switch, just throw in Pokemon Nintendo while your at it lol
As a Wii u owner all these port talks make me feel unexcited about switch latley. I mean I loved these games put 100s of hours in them but no thanks, I'm ready for proper sequels to splatoon, Mario kart 9 and smash 5.

Hope Nintendo has more stuff than these ports/Zelda at launch window. If not, then new Mario title seem to be the only new exclusive game for this device.
Problem is, you're gonna waiting years for those, especially Smash 5. Nintendo probably wants some sort of Smash/MK/Splatoon game out in the Switch's first year.

I can understand you wanting MK9 (& maybe Splatoon 2, to an extent), but Smash 4 came out too recently for Smash 5 to happen anytime soon. Also consider that the games weren't played by very many people, so the Switch can give these great games a 2nd chance. As a Wii u owner all these port talks make me feel unexcited about switch latley. Technically BotW wouldn't be delayed. They never committed to it as March. As much as I'd love for Switch to launch with a new 3D Mario, I really hope Breath of the Wild isn't delayed, at this point a new Zelda title would probably create a lot more launch hype and buzz than another Mario game.
Mario Kart 8S makes a whole ton of sense.
Switch + Mario Kart 8S = $299 (baseline switch $249)
Zelda = $59.99
Pro Controller = $39.99
Total sale $398.98
That's what I am getting at least, if that's the case.
Smash, Kart and Splatoon Switch are probably very similar to their originals that they do not deserve the new number, but different enough that they are not straight up ports.
I think that in this case, unlike with the Wii, the consumer will be more confident to buy into the system if they have a good reason to buy the system with just the opening titles. That will help with install base and if Mario/Zelda experiences are a good taste of what the system offers, a third-party game in April/May could capitalize on that good feeling.
People point out to the Wii situation where install base was enormous, but with very low third-party attach rate. I think the consumer of that era was very different than the one Nintendo is chasing now. Wii consumer wanted the gimmick, Switch consumer will want the games.

Wouldn't you feel like you just bought a shinier Wii U if you didn't get any completely new game?
It makes much more sense to bundle ports the latest itterations of Nintendo's Local Multiplayer classics at launch (Mario Kart, Smash, Splatoon and Mario Maker) since all of those games easily fit under the games as a service model. Nintendo can subsidize the cost of the new console's advanced hardware with bundled/cheap software.
This Also builds goodwill with WiiU owners as they wont be forced to rebuy the games they already have on the WiiU.
Having this many Hard Hitting essential nintendo games in the first month
ZELDA + Ports allows Nintendo to rapidly build an install base, which in turn keeps 3rd parties interested. Most of whom will likely have one launch game, then wait and see how it does. If the Switch does well Every 3rd party game at E3 will be coming to Switch Holiday 2017. If not they will bail early and the Switch will be DoA in 3 months
If Nintendo doesn't want to make a new game or IP to bundle with Switch, then take the Mario Kart 8 port and bundle it with the Switch in the west and in Japan bundle Splatoon port with Switch. There's no way in hell this doesn't take off.
Splatoon Switch bundle in Japan
Mario Kart 8 Switch bundle in the west
BotW at launch
One new Nintendo IP
Maybe one more smaller Nintendo IP
Lots of third party games
This is a recipe of success-at the beginning at least.
Yeah, I think bundling Switch with a Wii U remaster is a pretty bad idea as well. If Nintendo does a bundle, I'm sure it'll be a new game.

Emily has a bit more info on the 3D Mario game.
"I don't know if there's a hub world, but this new 3D Mario on Switch has more exploration than 3D World and Galaxy."

I'd rebuy the same exact game tbhThey'll need more than better graphics to get people to rebuy the game.

One that is tailored to the hardware or a feature of the hardware. Most likely a new Mii Play / Nintendo Land type of game to really push the multiplayer anywhere feature.

That's for the bundle. Would a $249 basic switch appease you?
I stand corrected
No. Read my and jdstorm's posts.
Doing a bundle with a new game depends on what game that is. It will not be a top tier game (Mario, Zelda, Pokemon...). Those games will sell on their own and cost too much to produce. An enhanced port of MK8 will be significantly cheaper to produce and to bundle. They will also not release a MK9 soon afterwards, so it might very wel be the "only" MK or at least for a long time. So, you want that community as big as possible. Yet WiiU owners that have already played MK8 will be among the early adopters of the Switch, and they'll feel burnt paying full price for a port of a game they already played/paid. Especially since many WiiU owners feel burnt due to the failure of the WiiU.
Also, Wii Sports was a good bundle game, due to the nature of the Wii. I would have very little interest in playing Switch Sports however. I also didn't really find much fun in Nintendoland. So, what else? I'd personally love Pikmin 4 as a bundle game, but it also isn't for everyone. Mario Kart has universal appeal. Maybe something like Animal Crossing would fit the nature of the Switch as well, but that game could also sell on its own.
On the other hand, something like Mario Kart fits the nature of the Switch perfectly. Play small bursts on the go, do a quick time trial on the bus, finish a cup waiting at the dentist, and go online when you get home for a couple of hours. It's much more suited to the hardware (portable/home) than say Pikmin or Zelda.
jdstorm also raises a good point, that MK is a game that can work for Nintendo due to DLC sales throughout the Switch's life. In that sense, it also is of importance to get the MK community as big as possible.
I also think most people buy an extra game alongside the bundle. So they can get their "shiny new experience" anyway, especially if the pack-in game doesn't have to raise the price too much. Which again would fit an enhanced port.
It's basically the best (maybe the only way) to get an enhanced port in as many hands as possible early on. Which is in their best interest if they want to make more money on it in the long run, as well as create a thriving online community that could attract non-WiiU MK8 players as well.
I meant you personally. .
I think the last time a launch had a Mario platformer was way back on GBA, though? And the last one that was actually an original game was N64? Maybe it's time to have a Nintendo device launch with a Mario on day 1.On one hand Mario is the better seller, but it can also be hit or miss in terms of perception and maybe it's time to have a Nintendo device launch without a Mario since day 1.
