United States Election: Nov. 8, 2016 |OT| Hate Trumps Love

I really hope Hillary wins just so I can experience another 4 years of my racist cousins and uncles and aunts from Mississippi continually posting crazy Facebook rants on how our guns are gonna be stolen, babies killed 30 minutes before birth, conspiracy theories, God disappearing from the US and countless other hilarious articles.

I really do hate living in Mississippi *sigh* Can't wait to one day move back home to Chicago or move to Colorado Springs since my mom just moved there. This'll be my first time voting (I'm 29). I didn't vote during the 2008 election, really don't know why. Had just joined the military and was swamped with making it through tech school and getting reclassed, plus I always felt like shit is rigged somewhat and my vote wouldn't matter much. I don't feel as apathetic anymore and this election really makes me want to research the candidates and their views on various issues so I can do my part. We'll see what happens.

Romney would be destroying Clinton.

People have the memory of goldfish. This doesn't actually mean anything.

Seriously, look at the waves in polling even through this campaign. People came back time and time again after Trump said dumb shit, it just took a few weeks. Romney's been out of the spotlight for years, so we've forgot any dumb shit reported on him, meanwhile EMAILSEMAILSEMAILSEMAILEMAILSEMAILSEMAILSEMAILSEMAILS

Listening to Trump in Florida and it makes me sick on how he blames everything on Obama, Hillary and the democrats. He never blames once on republicans or the republican president. He must believe in himself on what he is saying

Looks like odds have shifted where Dems will likely be minority in the Senate. Can't believe they've fucked up the lead they had this hard. Congrats on losing the war.

Damn tragedy, they were sitting around 70% before the FBI announcement two weeks ago. Gave the republican candidates finally something to talk about other than their stance on Trump, and boy did they hammer it in.

That would be a damn shame If the Dems can't eek out some win here, to avoid at least complete obstructionism her first two years
Other sites give the Democrats more favourable odds in the Senate than 538 does, but it will definitely be close.

I love his argument that a Clinton presidency would "grind our government to a screeching halt," as if we didn't already have a statement from the GOP majority leader himself claiming they only goal was to stop Obama from accomplishing anything.

He's trying to minimize down ballot loses. (R) good (D) bad!

Uhhhh, nope.

I can easily see quite a few moderate Republicans who are voting for her out of revulsion for Trump also voting for GOP Senators down ballot to check her power.

Yeah. In some states that is possible, but it won't be in a lot of the states were senate seats are up for grabs.

MSNBC showed canvassers and GOTV meetings in Philly yesterday. The Dems have one of the last great old-fashioned city-level ground machines there; it looked like a small army preparing to cover every corner of the city.

PA is blue. And McGinty will be its next Senator.

Looks like weed legalization is going to pass in MA.

At least if Trump wins, I can spend the next 4 years high off my ass

Massachusetts charter school teacher representing! Interestingly, my coworkers are split on question 2. Part of me feels our public school system needs to be improved before we look towards other charters, even though money enters the public school system for every child that enrolls in a charter. I'm split!

Massachusetts definitely is not going to go red despite all the east Boston Trump supporters though, that's for sure. :)

I'm somewhat torn as well. I have some bias as a former teacher for a reform-minded ed organization, though I taught at an urban public school.

Given the restrictions on population served in the ballot question, I'm satisfied supporting charters at that level. I'm not surprised there is some disagreement amongst teachers - the MTA and even NEA are very involved.

I voted no on charters. I just can't gey past how much the yes campaign is lying instead of just showing the success of charters in the state. The influx of outside money makes me pause as well.

It's more about being able to point to Massachusetts so they can open up less regulated and more profitable schools in more desperate states.

I also have an issue with funding if charters, since it is pulling money out of the most disadvantaged schools, concentrating even more failure in poor preforming public schools.

It's a hard issue, because the well regulated charters in Mass do seem to be preforming very well. But, even with expansion not everyone can go to one, and the ballot unitive should be balanced with fixing public entities as well to protect those who aren't lucky enough to make the cut.

Personally, I think the No campaign has been more casual with the facts. 10 charters aren't going to bleed the state's education budget dry; Boston in fact has the highest per-pupil spending in the country and MA is very high when looked at from a state level.

It's an interesting place for the debate to be happening, since Mass and Boston schools are by and large high-performing when compared nationwide. I'm almost certain No will win - education is a big industry in Boston, and "It will take money from our public schools" is a compelling, if only half-true, argument.

Like I said, I'm torn, but I settled on voting yes.

I'm curious on your reasoning against the additional slot parlor... but I can't remember where it was slated to go some maybe that would effect you.

Da fuck at that school price tag!?!? Plymouth built two new high schools for half that cost, and the state picked up half the bill. What in the world....

Re: Slots - Honestly I don't feel strongly, but I feel with the casino opening up in Everett, that should be enough for the time being until it's constructed. I live close by in Somerville (given that the wording says it has to be close to a horse track, I can only imagine that means Suffolk Downs).

The price tag for the HS is absurd, and assuredly will be even higher as every similar project in the area has been. Give me a toned-down version and I'm on board.

I really hate the fact that the US election circus lasts for more than a year. It's ridiculous and mentally exhausting even to a non-American interested in their politics. Also a president's term should be increased from the current 4 to 5 years. Dunno if that's possible.

Yes, blame dems for dumbfuck voters and for all the bullshit conspiring against them, and only them.

If Hillary is rebounding from Comey's bullshit, I kinda wonder if Senate Dems are as well. But there isn't as much Senate polling as far as Presidential polling, so we don't get as good a feel for where momentum is going.

Also a president's term should be increased from the current 4 to 5 years. Dunno if that's possible.
Not possible because the four year term limit is in our Constitution, and getting a Constitutional Amendment passed is absurdly difficult.

The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows

Still very nervous but please America don't fuck this up! A Trump Presidency will be disastrous for the world not just America. Let's hope things work out and common sense prevails at the ballot box.

I can't believe this circus ends tomorrow.

Getting misty eyed. Politics is like sports to me, so I will miss it.
This is only the beginning, my friend. Hillary is going to have a rough start.

And Trump is a sign of things to come, not an anomaly. Next go around things are going to be just as bad as this time, maybe worse.

So 538 gives Republicans a ~54% chance to keep the Senate, while Wang gives Democrats a 79% chance to take control.

Why such a wide disparity? I get they have different models, but that's a hell of a wide gulf.

Will be interesting to see who's right.
