My ballot:

In the end I couldn't pull the trigger on Trump. While he's someone who I really wanted to vote for on an emotional level, you have to realize that he simply isn't a true believer, just another GOP snake oil salesman, only more bombastic and less intelligent. I am glad he ran, and I hope his movement continues to grow and eventually pushes the Grover Norquist chamber of commerce types out of the party. This time it was free trade, in four years it might be regressive taxation, or lax financial regulation, or labor rights. When the day comes that the base fully awakens and forces the party to move beyond trickle down and hostility to labor, I’ll be ready to support them, but until then I’ll continue to begrudgingly vote for Democrats.

(And yes, I totally broke state law by taking this photo)

Wait, even better:

The person who handed me my ballot told me to not cross party lines when I vote and to vote all for the same party.

Is this a thing? I've voted in 3 elections now and never had anyone tell me that.

Staying up all night having a party here in the UK. Have the following to keep us going...

Apple Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Election Cake
Pizza
Hot Dogs
Corn Dogs
Wings
Ribs
Doritos / Mountain Dew
Popcorn
Oreos
Pop Tarts
Various American Candies (some hopefully not tasting horrible)
Twinkies
Krispy Kreme
Bourbon
Southern Comfort
Jack Daniels
...and a shitload of various American beers.

May very well be dead by the morning. \o/

When do we find out the winner

I'd say about an hour after the polls close in California.

I think in 2012 they called it as soon as California polls officially closed, like 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET on the dot, because there was no question how California voted and those were the last votes Obama needed to get to the Electoral College majority, as other states had already been called. Technically they could have called it earlier, when whatever states before California had been called, but networks usually try to hold off if polls are still open on the West Coast so as not to influence / depress voting behavior.

It might be a bit later this year if there are some battleground states that still haven't been called yet when California's polls close.

By the way, the NY Times has a map of when the polls close in various states, which is useful if you're tracking this sort of thing:

IMMEDIATELY report that!

That's illegal voter influence/voter suppression. That MUST be reported at once to the relevant state election authorities.

I worked as an Election Officer before, they're not allowed to tell you things like that or who to vote for. You need to report them.

WRONG!

yeah they need to be told not to tell people that.

Please report it. I imagine they're telling many others the same thing and they shouldn't get away with it.

That's illegal, report them please. You never have to vote straight party

Also, when trump and his wife went to go vote, the media caught a moment where he was meeting and greeting people including two little kids. He took out his wallet and gave the kid what looked like a 20 dollar bill. Made be laugh after that story any him giving it fake million dollar bills

Going to get to the poll here in Virginia about 6:30 tonight, hope the line won't be crazy long but we'll see.

Where are you voting? From my experience and what I've been hearing, up here in the NoVa area it's being going pretty fast. Couldn't have waited in line for more than ten minutes.

Done my bit, voted for Trump. Too much corruption and scandal in American politics.

edit: Ah wait, need to jump on my alt-GAF account for such honesty, brb.

UK GAF here, just rustling jimmies. Hope you keep Trump out America!

I'm gonna vote for UKIP to spite you.

Are you sure you didn't mishear them? Could they have been trying to explain the straight ticket option?

They definitely shouldn't be electioneering (i.e. trying to get you to vote for a particular candidate/party,) but I'm not sure how telling you to not cross party lines (without specifying a particular party) would do that.

Florida question here.

My dad lived in Seminole County but moved to Orange County this year. He sent in a request to update his voter registration to Orange County but it never went through.

Even though he updated his driver's license to reflect the new county, can he just walk into the county where he's registered to vote and vote anyways?

They aren't supposed to tell you ANYTHING at all other than answer basic questions.
