United States Election: Nov. 8, 2016 |OT| Hate Trumps Love

Anybody have a great trollish Hillary photos I can use on social media tomorrow?

Going to love the meltdowns by Trump supporters all day tomorrow.

I was all set with my 3DS and a change of comfortable shoes to go vote after work since I figured I wouldn't have time before I went in. Swung by just to look and there was only like 15 people at my polling place. So I hopped in line and was done in like 20 minutes.

So much better than my 4 hour wait to vote in the primary

I've been sick with worry about a Trump win all day today. Can't stop refreshing news sites. I really hope everything goes smoothly today.

Trump ain't winning, make a cup of tea, or whatever hot beverage Americans drink, and chill.

It might be fairly close, but Clinton will win.

I’m disgusted in how people have behaved this election on all sides. Democracy is breaking down.

I’ve seen way too much attacking of people who have different political beliefs. I’ll preface this by saying I am fairly liberal. I voted for Bernie in the primary. I will be voting for Hilary tonight. I think she’ll make an okay president. I think Trump has run an extremely toxic campaign and would be a lame duck president.

However, I’ve seen too much stuff online where people are using “Trump Supporter” should not be used as an insult to invalid a person’s opinion. This has been terrible. Just because someone has different political opinions from you does not mean they’re a bad person. Everywhere I look I’ve seen this. I’ve LEGIT seen people lose their friends because of supporting one candidate or another. Lay down the pitch forks, people.

If anything, this election has convinced me that democracy is broken. The average person is too immature to have any ounce of self determination
When someone supports a person with views as abhorrent as Trump, it absolutely means they're a bad person.

Quit with this 'b-b-but both sides!' bull shit.

Racism, xenophobia and mysogyny are not just different views, they don't deserve to be respected, and i'd have zero problem losing a "friend" who supports the things Trump is pushing. This isn't a matter of differing political views. We are talking about equal rights and basic decency for all people, which goes beyond politics and into a matter of being on the wrong and right side of history.

Supporting Trump makes you a bad person. This bothsideism bullshit does nothing but normalize Trumps behavior. Trump is not a normal Republican candidate. He is a white nationalist and his supporters are supporting white nationalism. Dismissing what he has brought as nothing more than a difference in opinion is highly damaging.

Depends on how close the race is, but this is how the last election was called for reference:

4 days later for FL? What the fuck??

I swear if I have to wait that long

You should go look at some US election history if you think this is bad or that "democracy is breaking down".

So trump has to win Florida in order to win right?

And floridas polls close at 7pm eastern so we should know by 4pm west coast time if Hillary won?

lol no

They have to actually count the votes.

I don't remember FL taking that long in 2012. It was the last state called but I'm pretty sure everything was settled the day after.

FL wasn't definitively called until the next day.

Pretty much.

NC polls close around that time and he has to win both. If they both go blue, it's over. If one goes blue, it's over.

I agree and I'm surprised to see this post on GAF to be honest. This election race has been toxic in general because of the tone set by the candidates and the process. A lot of insult slinging, back talking, lack of basic respect, back peddling, etc.

I feel irresponsible to vote at this point because I have been irresponsible in not paying attention to the candidates. The process and toxicity of it all has prevented me from being able to take it seriously. I'm sure I'll regret not voting, but then I'm also afraid of regretting voting. I'm too indecisive. Trump is a publicly gross individual and lacks maturity, wisdom, and tact. Hillary has views of government and policies that don't typically align with my own.

I just feel troubled by it all.

cast my vote for hillary clinton. second time this year. california's gonna come through!

also +1 weed and +1 repeal death penalty. although there were two people i spoke with who voted for speeding up the death penalty.

Exactly. People are tripping over themselves harder than that penguin who lost his mate while trying to legitimize, normalize, and summarize a blatant cavalcade of fuckery as "just a different opinion man." Makes my blood boil.

First of all, why are you in an election thread if you can vote but actively are choosing not to because you were too lazy to make a simple google search or use ANY of the shit ton of references that succinctly and quickly explain why one candidate is inherently bad for EVERYONE and supporting him would be bad for EVERYONE, while the other is literally the exact opposite. Go out and vote. Stop using your own willful ignorance as an excuse not to contribute to helping decide the fate of our country. God fucking damn it, it's not our job to coddle racism, sexism, or xenophobia!!!

I just got done voting in Topeka, KS. I hate to say that it feels pointless to vote as a liberal in Topeka...but we have the most hated governor in the country (Brownback) and the worst possible presidential candidate the republicans could put forward and this state is still staying red. There could be guns attached to voting booths that fire when someone votes republican and people would show up with helmets and wills filled out.

Voted anyway. Take that assholes who've been running this state into the ground for the past eight years.

Well, it was less than a 1 percent difference and Florida didn't matter anyway. I wouldn't necessarily take that as an indication that Florida is definitely going to be that slow to be called. In 2008 Florida apparently wasn't called until around 12:50 in the morning ET.

We got any news on how the election is going? Who seems to be winning the battleground states?

We won't really know until later tonight, really. But polling and projection is looking good for Clinton.

There are several key states that Trump must win, that are currently leaning Blue in projection. He definitely has a lot of work to do today.

Being a racist, bigot, sexist piece of shit isn't just "different political opinions". Trump and Trump supporters are for a platform that actively wants to fuck up the rights and lifes of many americans. That shouldn't respected in any way. They should be called out at every opportunity.

I thought all the news agreed to not call a winner until polls on the west coast had closed, is this not a thing?

They'll call individual East Coast states, which might give a pretty clear indication of where the election is heading, but not the entire thing until the West Coast polls close at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET.

Nope, they have the stickers, so they are at least voters. Its really surprising seeing a bunch of minorities post on the_donald in favour of trump

Perhaps, but unless they have MAGA hat or something specifically pro Trump, I'm still a little skeptical. Post history of the OP should give it away too.

Elections are always ugly. But you make some good points.

"Tone set by the candidates?" What in the flying fuck? I cannot fathom what tone you are getting out of Clinton that is on the same planet as Trump.

Just put in my vote for Clinton. I'm in a deep red state she has no chance of winning but I want to be counted in the popular vote. Anecdotally, there was almost nobody in line which is a first for me.

It's not about attacking people with different political beliefs. Please let's stop repeating this nonsense.

It's about attacking people with the most morally reprehensible, intolerant, ignorant, disgusting and even downright evil political beliefs. Beliefs that aim to take America back to its worst days.

People with those beliefs deserve to be attacked, should be publicly shamed, and defending them suggests you either don't know what their beliefs are, or you know but don't care.
