I'm going to go on a long rant here and I'm sure in this fast moving thread no one will read it, but it's going to be at least a little cathartic. I'm also going to put this forum on blast a bit.

You know, I'm just going to take a moment to say that some of us tried to warn so many of you. The whole "social justice warrior" online movement or whatever you want to call it that this forum in particular has come to be dominated by. Shame and spite do not do anything to help one's cause.

Unrepentantly calling all white people racists and bigots and sexists and misogynists is what brought this on. I've joked on here about voting for and supporting Trump, but god knows I never actually did. But I've always been able to at least sympathize with those "deplorables" for the blatant hypocrisy on the left when it comes to all of those social issues that dominate social media these days.

too many people on the left, and on GAF especially, remind me of the conservatives in the years following 9/11 under Bush. Everything was viewed through a polarizing, black and white filter. You are either with us or with the terrorists. You are either a ____ist or you're not.

You can't demonize and shame people and expect they'll agree with you. They'll only dig their heels in further, especially if they feel attacked.

This is some real truth here, folks:
All the people who are very likely or even (ugh) probably going to put Donald fucking Trump in the White House tonight are not voting because they hate women or blacks or mexicans or whoever else. I'm also not saying that the hatred isn't a factor, because it's been shown repeatedly that at least on some level it's an animating force for all of this... but people are complex animals but you've turned them into cartoon villains and stereotypes without every trying to understand them or why they actually feel the way they do.

Polarization is bad. The right has been polarized for a long time, but now the left is too, and it's biting them back hard tonight. If Trump wins and has the House and Senate behind him, this is literally the end of America as we know it and the beginning of a new BRIC nation world alignment. That's really fucking bad.

You can't demonize and shame people and expect they'll agree with you

The official party platform is to ban me from the country.

Who the fuck is demonizing who

This is the end result of our way of life here in the US. A fucking demented TV personality who worships money and has zero empathy. The American Dream. I really hate my country right now.

I'm going to punch the first person who says I didn't vote for Hillary because I thought it was a lock. Seriously, will pop them right in the mouth.

Y'all can't be serious thinking someone as "socialist", BLM friendly, Jewish, and who lost as bad as Bernie would have beat Trump based on what we are seeing tonight

Biden was the safe choice, but Hillary would have been glorious as a fuck you to Trump

Didn't think I could hate someone more than Trump but I despise Hillary Clinton for letting this happen.

Irrational? Perhaps. Whatever.

I legitimately DO NOT want to live in a country where DONALD FUCKING TRUMP is the president. I'm depressed as fuck and honestly I'm feeling a bit sick right now.

Crying over here in Canada, I'm legit going to puke and need to call my psychiatrist. i just got out of the fucking hospital for a breakdown I did not need this.

The markets are collapsing right now holy fucking shit. I'm a finance major and I feel that my career prospects are getting torn apart right in front of me.

I know much worse will happen but for somebody who claims to be able to create jobs, he's sure as hell taking them away right now.

If she loses, the dems are out of congress the White House and get wiped in the state houses. James Carville just stated that if she loses this is the weakest the party has been in generations.

The DNC has never built up a back bench or focused on state houses. It's kind of absurd. You win the state houses you have the most control.

It's pathetic.

The DNC got what they wanted with hillary, it had to be her turn in the most tone deaf move possible.

Trump's own party didn't see this coming, they genuinely thought they were going to lose based on the polls. All the polls didn't see this coming. If you saw this coming, it was a guess or gut feeling.

After the Tories won the last election, and then Brexit, I lost a whole heap of faith in the general public and any illusion of us living in a 'tolerant accepting Western society' was kinda shattered. So I expected Trump to do really well. Part of me had hoped that the Americans would see some sense, especially after hearing of rising hate crimes in the UK, but in the last couple of weeks I'd seen far too many people saying they weren't going to vote or were going to protest vote, suggesting "it's a waste of time, he won't win, it won't even be close".

I didn't think he'd win, but I'm not at all surprised that it's looking highly likely. I expected it to be really close (much like Brexit).

Like, fours years, could be catastrphic, could be bad but eh not horrible. Just four years.

But the fucking supreme court seat(s). That's fucking over america for a long long time.

You guys don't have to eat crow yet, Hillary still probably has this.

I would remind you guys though there are consequences when the country gets worse for people not living in or near a liberal utopia hyper growth city and the rest of the country gets left behind. These places aren't suffering from the a labor participation rate that has continued to go down in Obama's second term from above 64% to 62.5%. Also, if you don't live near one of these places, the job growth means you have taken a new job that pays significantly less than your old job. Last month set a record for individuals working 2 jobs.

If you live in a rural area the country has gotten worse for you. If includes a lot of the 90+ million who have been out of the workforce the last year. Then Hillary says she is going to implement even more environmental restrictions only the factory farms can easily afford.

If you live in a suburb, you are or you know someone who is getting hosed by Obamacare. And you haven't forgotten Gruber and Obama saying, "If you like your doctor/healthcare you can keep it." That was a blatant lie that no Republican could have hoped to get away with. Then Hillary says she is going to double down on it.

If you lost your coal or factory job, Hillary's answer is free college, which you would never have the grades and test scores to get into, and a higher minimum wage, which comes nowhere near what you used to make, then your future is no future. Trump doesn't have an answer either, but at least he's said he isn't committed to keep making life worse for you.

To top if off, she has committed to continuing Obama's Merkel like foreign policy on immigration and ISIS. Thereby further depressing working class wages (increased labor supply always lowers labor demand) and increasing the burden on intelligence services, which have to date have had a spotty record on stopping terrorist attacks in the last year.

Then yeah, your choice is to go with the racist misogynistic asshole, cause he can't be that much worse than a scandal ridden liar who has gone on record saying to her constituents she is going to make your life and the life in your community worse. I mean, the media elites say I'm already a racist and chauvinist for voting for racists warring on women like McCain and Romney, so what do I have to lose?

Just be glad she didn't run against Kasich or Rubio.

538 did significantly better than literally everything else. Sam Wang is the one who needs to feel like a fool.

Why? He, Nate, and others in this line of work made certain assumptions and were wrong. You can't use these models to eliminate uncertainty 100% or give off the impression that you know the future. All I hope is that people don't claim this was a completely random black swan event like someone was suggesting in PoliGAF awhile back. I'm not convinced.
