United States Election: Nov. 8, 2016 |OT| Hate Trumps Love

Tolerance of views that are not your own is something a lot of people on this forum need to learn.

I am a Democrat and I voted for Clinton. I understand where non-racist Trump voters are coming from. From this thread alone the majority of far left Democrat posts don't get it. RACIST RACIST RACIST is all they spout.

Glenn Beck an Brokaw nailed it earlier tonight. A huge portion of America hates Trump but they still voted for him because they hate the current government. It had nothing to do with racism, it was anti-establishment. They think we are going in the wrong direction but I get what they don't like. Trump isn't the answer but neither was Hillary so they voted for him.

The other day I stated that while racism is a factor in Trump's appeal to so many people it's not the only motivation, to which I of course got dogpiled. Any suggestion that Trump could be receiving support from your typical, ordinary, every day American who has no issue with minorities is dismissed.

There are a LOT of angry working class people in formally industrialised parts of the US who are now unemployed and blame Washington and globalisation for their troubles. Labelling these people racists for supporting Trump is simplistic and perhaps a reason for Clinton's imminent defeat. If the Dems hope to take back the WH and Congress they're going to need to start listening and taking on board legitimate grievances held by ordinary Americans.

The Democrats will have a new secret weapon in 4 years.

I'm in.

Democrats next time around need to aim much much more towards the center of America and not the far left. Also they need to try to keep insulting the other side at a low. The Dems frankly turned a lot of the centrists in America against them this cycle.

That's what they did when they picked Hilary. She's center-right.

Dems got here because they embraced neoliberalism.

That alt-right now controls this country

Controls the Presidency
Controls the Congress
and will control the Supreme court

I never want to hear the name Clinton again.

I do actually think a huge chunk of voters had nothing to do with race and more, "Hilary is gonna take my damn guns and Trump is gonna give us jobs!"

Obviously none of that is accurate, but there are a ton of people out there that aren't educated at all. I've been seeing Hilary is gonna take my guns posts every day on Facebook for months.

That's not to say some of this isn't racism. It surely is, but I don't think its the whole story. I think the absolute gun love in America is a huge story flying under the radar in elections. There is a batch of this country that will never vote Democrat no matter what because they think they will instantly have their guns taken away.

Keep in mind there are more guns in this country than people. That is a MASSIVE storyline that hasn't been talked about going into this election hardly at all.
And tons of people are still convinced Hilary is crooked for her emails and Bengahzi. The GOP has done damn fine work smearing her. I almost have to applaud them.

No he wouldn't have. People want anti-establishment. The DNC, blind followers, Identity Politics, and assumption is killing the election for her.

People want radical change. Government for the people not beholden to special interests. They want their jobs back. They want honesty.

It's telling NOW how Trump is doing as well as he is. Anti-establishment. Fresh radical approach. A strong promise of SOMETHING that isn't status quo.

DNC shoves Hillary in our face after a lot of questionable activity. The chickens are coming home to roost

Well said.

It never seemed real that Trump could win. Now the Republicans will likely control all three branches come January. All I can say as a Canadian watching is I'm disappointed and feeling for you guys. I have no idea what to expect for the future of Canada/USA relations and trade.

Honest Question from someone from Germany.

HOW could all the estimates be so wrong? Were there so many people who lied b/c they felt ashamed that they'll vote Trump? I just don't get it.
And how could people vote against their own interest?

Reid said dems would invoke the nuclear option to get rid of the filibuster if they took back the Senate. If the Republicans do that as they hold the Senate, dems are fucked

If it's just this easy why the *FUCK* didn't they do it in the 2008-2012 cycle and get some real shit done? The ACA was crippled by the need for 60 votes

Is it okay to cry ?
I live in France, and I have to wake up my GF in 20mn. I know she won't believe me at first, then she's gonna cry. I'm gonna cry a bit before she wakes up.

I'm a black dude living in Indiana, so tomorrow is gonna be an interesting day......already had arguments and near fights breaking out in class over people bashing Trump.

I'm in Northwest Indiana and fairly insulated from stuff like that but still intrigued by what happens all over the state.

White people fucked up, that's pretty clear. They are the majority base of Trump, someone absolutely vile, and gave no regard to a liberal, inclusive senate and presidency.

And I'm white people.

eff I didn't get vote after getting caught up in school work the past ~5 days. Oh well, would've wrote in anyway

The takeaway from this election, and the thing we all probably underestimated, is how easily and fiercely stupid people can be mobilized, as evidence by the sudden surge of Trump supporters popping up in this thread. I would love for anybody who supports or voted for Trump but swears they aren't ignorant and/or a racist to give me one policy or position of his, just one, that you agree with or support that A) isn't rooted in some kind of hate, bigotry, or racism or b) is an ACTUAL position, and not just him saying "it'll be great I'll fix it i promise"

Go ahead, I'll wait.

...maybe they got called stupid too many times by liberals?

The only solace I have in all this is thinking that this must be exactly how the right felt when Obama got elected. All that doom and gloom about him taking over and becoming god emperor of the world didn't come true...so many Trump won't be all that bad??
.

Obama couldn't get stuff done because he had a Republican Congress against him. If Trump wins, Congress will give him carte blanche.

Been going through this thread after the results started coming in, and I'm as flabbergasted at what's happening tonight as everyone else, but fuck your bullshit. How the fuck are you not banned?
That's what I'm saying. So many posts like that get a complete pass on here, but if it had been someone saying "man Fuck black people" you'd bet the entire board would be all over him and he'd be banned in minutes.
Its happened far too many times in the last months in these election threads.

But I also understand mods can't get to all the bad posts especially in a thread that moves this fast.
