United States Election: Nov. 8, 2016 |OT| Hate Trumps Love

The upwards of 35% of Latino voters going for Trump and lower than expected black turnout. Whyyyyyyyyyyyy. I know the young people also don't vote. We just needed everyone to come together and they didn't.
It's just a gut feeling I have, but I suspect many people who were super enthusiastic about voting for Obama didn't turn out for a less charismatic Hillary, and his actual presidency was.. kinda underwhelming. They love him personally but.. they don't want an extension of his presidency.

Also, the latino numbers are really shocking, I can only assume that many can pass for white so they're not too bothered by Trump's bs..? The post election analysis is going to be fascinating and depressing.

It's not.
I'm glad he's banned now, but it happened two hours after he posted it (when most bans for racism, including at least one documented case in this thread, are dealt with immediately), and a lot of people had quoted it (so it doesn't seem like it just got "lost in the shuffle" of the thread, because it kept popping up).

Thank you for doing the deed, Lionel, but I find it hard to believe you were the first mod that saw the post. I'm sure almost every mod is invested in this election and following this thread closely, and it seems like as a rule racial hate speech against whites rarely get taken care of unless members first make noise about it.

This has been bothering me for a while on GAF - I'm one thousand percent for banning racists/homophobes/islamaphobes, but allowing racist comments for a majority group and hand-waving it away as no big deal is incredibly disheartening to see.

I hope it changes soon, because I really don't want to leave GAF - but the amount of anti-white sentiment that has gone unchecked here this election cycle has been a gigantic bummer.

I am happy and I'm from and living in Mexico! Do I support Trump? NO! But the DNC and Hillary Clinton wronged Bernie, a true progressive that had this in the bag and was robbed by primaries shenanigans. The smugness from HillaryGAF was off the charts and since GAF became an echo chamber it is only natural to say "I told you so" from everyone else that didn't drink the YAS QUEEN kool-aid.

Bernie lost the primaries in states (actual actual raw votes) where he won caucuses (where votes were amplified ). He wasn't more viable than Hill.

How is it this close?? Only one or two % points in certain states... it's unreal. I can see a couple states coming in that close but what the hell is going on here?

Trump is ahead 30k in PA at 97% reporting in.

Obamacare is done
Climate change legislation is done
The senate, house and SCOTUS will all be controlled by modern tea party supporting republicans

This is the most hellish political scenario I could imagine for this country. A rapist is about to reach the highest office in the land. I blame white republican voters, the DNC, Hillary and Debbie.

yeah

like, hellish to where i'm almost fucking longing for the days of GWB

this country is so fucked

I voted Bernie in the primaries. I was then told I was a moron and I should let it go because he was "unelectable" because he was too out there. I then voted Hillary and was led to believe she was a shoe in over Trump.

I find it hard to see how he could have done any worse than Hillary here. She wasn't even able to win over a sexist reality TV star. Kinda wishing more people would have went Bernie.

Hard to tell. He wasn't battle tested. Hillary didn't go in hard against him because of party unity, Republicans didn't go in on him because they thought a candidate who openly embraced one of the most toxic words in american politics (socialist) would be easy pickings.

If he faced some real, out in the open, bloodthirsty attacks in the primaries, we'd have a better picture of how he'd fare. He could have won this, he also could have lost by wider margins.

Trump has an edge because he promised people in the rust belt and coal miners and industrial workers that he would save their jobs when that's literally not possible.

Do you believe they would be willing to accept the fact their careers and livelihoods as a vocation are done for?

I mean, Obama wanted wage insurance to help them, and we need to inch to a UBI to assure a floor so this displacement is met with less violence and chaos, but good fucking luck now.

I genuinely believe we, as Americans, will live through the huge worst blows because we're too stupid to be proactive. I mean, come on, we're about to elect a man who is the epitome of "reactive".

I feel a significant loss of hope for reason, accountability, and compassion in this culture. Here's hoping I die before I'm 30, I guess...

Wonder what are the chances of Trump actually building that wall are. I feel like if it actually happens, I'm gonna laugh uncontrollably just to keep from crying.

I find it almost funny that the media, after years of demonizing Clinton for complete non-stories and after months of "yes, Trump said that he sexually assaulted women, but did he really say that, did he really mean that, let's invite some crazy people to defend this blatantly criminal thing just to keep the ratings going up", now seem to be in a somber mood. Fuck you. All of you.

The takeaway from this election, and the thing we all probably underestimated, is how easily and fiercely stupid people can be mobilized, as evidence by the sudden surge of Drumpf supporters popping up in this thread. I would love for anybody who supports or voted for Drumpf but swears they aren't ignorant and/or a racist to give me one policy or position of his, just one, that you agree with or support that A) isn't rooted in some kind of hate, bigotry, or racism or b) is an ACTUAL position, and not just him saying "it'll be great I'll fix it i promise"

Go ahead, I'll wait.

There won't be a single one doing that.

I honestly think Bernie would have done much better. A vast majority of people hate both Hillary and Trump. Who hates Bernie?

I was lead to believe Hillary would win if I rallied to her instead of Bernie. Jeez I wonder what the hell would have happened if Bernie ended up not endorsing her.

Bernie would've been labeled a pinko commie and that would've been the end of that.

It's not that Trump is an amazing candidate. It's that people and thirsting for indulging in racist and sexist rickety under the guise of "change". Bernie would've been "too PC" for these voters

So what's this mean for someone under the daca act? Can anyone with any insight help?

You should probably get married.

But seriously we don't know, he's not going to deport immigrants who don't have criminal records, it's a logistical/economic nightmare and he took it out of his "100 day plan"

But DACA could be defunded or altogether abolished.

From a fellow Mexican living in the border, you're a fucking idiot.

You know... When I was growing up I always said that one day I'd like to live in America. Now... Not so much. True colors have been shown.

Canada it is then.

While I agree HillaryGAF was too smug, you should be worried about Mexico after Trump wins. Hell the peso is already plummeting after all the plummeting it already did this year. Plus you have people like AMLO running for president who have voiced that they see no problem with Trump. It will be a very scary time for the country.

Nah I'm not worried at all, and yes I know hard times are ahead but really, get real with me now, Mexico is always in crisis, we are used to this it is our modus operandi. We'll make it like always. And seeing as you are making up lies about AMLO I can say you are probably a right-wing PANista, no better than Republicans, it was PRI and PAN that escalated this with their neoliberal reforms, if anything this is good! Now Margarita's campaign, region 4 copy of Hillary, just took a big hit. AMLO was right all along, just like Bernie.

Mike Pence is likely the person to truly fear here, he is a dangerous career politician. His will how heavy influence over American policy and if Trump quits or is impeached it will only give him more power.

While everyone has been distracted by Trump, Pence is the real danger. There is a reason he was installed as Trump's running mate. And it wasn't just because he was the one that knows how the read.

Looking at Pence's history, you get the impression that what Cheney was to foreign policy, Pence is to internal policy and cultural engineering.

It's hilarious that people are reacting to the loss of your candidate against an authoritarian, narcissistic psychopath having control of the white house with an all Republican congress and at least another generation of a shitty conservative SCOTUS? haha man, yeah hilarious!

It's hilarious because people like you are so incredibly sanctimonious
