I've been trying, but no one is really interested in the actual answer. You don't smash the "blue wall" of rustbelt states by just appealing to white racists. No one around here appreciates how furious and helpless a lot of America felt toward both parties, myself included.

Basically: The same that happened in Brexit.

So which one of you used the monkey paw to get Obama elected?

Actually, considering we got Trudeau elected after a decade of Conservatives, and Brexit and this promptly happened shortly after, I think this was our fault.

In the end, the only person who cannot be congratulated is Hillary Clinton, who finished her candidacy with no class, no honor and as a huge sore loser.

She fucking conceded without a fuss to a man she doesn't respect.

While during Trump's speech, somebody in the crowd shouted Kill Obama.

Society doesn't always move forward in a linear fashion. Look at Europe after Rome fell.

This is a major step back for our country, and maybe the Earth (if the Republicans have their way with climate change legislation). I can only hope that we eventually move forward and make up for this terrible blunder.

My god this is so crazy to think about.. a presidential election may have just fucked the earth itself

This may be about Clinton and the faults if the dems, but this feels so much like a referendum on Obama

This is a bleak commentary on his legacy.

The only good thing about this is that I literally feel like anything is possible now. I'm inspired to run for office, if only for a chance to stick my boot in this man's ass.

it's a referendum on how easily it was to demonize a black man and paint him as the boogyman that represents everything wrong with this country despite all evidence pointing to the contrary. It's a referendum on a group of people who, yes, have legitimate gripes about losing jobs, about the economy, about being disenfranchised and forgotten, but who in response to these gripes choose to blame "them". The blacks. The browns. The gays. The immigrants. The poor. Everything is their fault.

This just goes to show that the majority of people are sick and tired of corrupt politicians. Trump is clearly the wrench in the system. I hope Trump proves us all wrong and does okay in office.

Hugely disappointing, but not surprising.

Clinton was the establishment candidate at a time when people are sick and tired of big money and back door dirty deals. (See Brexit as an example of people having enough of big elite in-clubs). Whether it's true or not, Trump was able to sell himself as the revolutionary, incorruptible anti-establishment.

Guys. Everything will be okay.

I just heard this on the radio here in Switzerland. Can't believe it and even I felt a bit sick and frightened. Can't imagine what it must feel like to lots if americans.

Like fourteen thousand fucking people wrote in fucking harambe as fixing president.

This is insane. Holy shit.

A historic and sad day for the country. I can only hope we look back on this in decades to come as such, rather than a turning point. Because that's sure what it feels like right now.

I cannot see this as anything but a downward turn given everything said by the incoming crew and how much control their party will wield for the next two years at minimum. It's all about lowered expectations and a hope that we get some kind of sanity and balance sooner than later.

I just wonder how much talent/experts on fields on science, that are full of minorities, will be affected by and will affect the future generations of USA academia.

Jesus fucking christ guys... jesus fucking christ. I wake up and see this shit... I can't believe it. I can't believe you elected that piece of shit. What the fuck happened?

So, how long before the right/alt-right realise this is bad, hmmm?

Come on, this is a legit question. Hillary wasn't great, but she wasn't this bad.

I know I took a bunch out of your quote, as I don't think any of that regret will really enter their minds even if those hypotheticals do happen.

As for the main question; they will regret it once hindsight is truly 20-20. By that I mean, when he is long gone and that wall isn't built, when he's owning a media empire as American industry is shafted by back-hand deals he'll make as it will save money. They'll regret it when nothing for their particular situation changes for the better.

Then they'll follow someone worse.

The blame is somewhere here. After Obama having a fucking amazing Presidency how did THIS happen?

Was it because we nominated Clinton when we should of voted Sanders? Did the Clinton campaign mismanage where to go? As ignoring Wisconsin?

Someone is to blame.

Goddammit GAF :(

For the last two years if I expressed worries and asked "what if Donald Trump gets elected" I always got at least 3 replies saying: "He can't get elected, the white male vote isn't enough and that is the only thing he gets"

And now I wake up to this shit ;____;

Yep.

I feel like there's been something incredibly wrong in the analysis leading up to this election.

What the fuck... How someone like him could pass ? you disappointed me USA, the apple fall so far from the tree, it looks like 'Merica is back.

Now as European, I'm preparing to war XD.

Can't sleep at all.

As a straight white male, I can't just shake this uneasy feeling off. I don't know if I feel safe here or I'm just uneasy about living in a country with millions of deplorables. Or maybe gloabal warming or some crazy nucular event.

I feel most bad for all my minority friends. Heart bleeds for them now.

Obama couldnt do half the stuff he wanted. The Republicans have all three branches of govt and many states. They'll set the supreme court for decades and be in power for the next census.

Meanwhile my gay brother with health issues will likely lose rights and medical insurance coverage gained under Obama. Fuck anyone that supported trump.

Exactly people who have little to no voice are fucked

Gay rights
Human rights
Sick people with no Health care
Minority rights
Constitution will be interpreted as WWJD

Personally I don't support either Trump or Clinton. Regardless of what party ended up winning the white house tonight I am not a fan of the idea of that same party also holding majority control over the house of representatives and the senate. Too much power for one party. Regardless of if it had been DFL or GOP.

With obstructionism though you kind of need this to accurately test theories. If republicans want to change healthcare and institute different policy, now is the time to see if those talking points hold water. If a party doesn't control both you just don't get anything done as shown last presidency
