I see sentiments like this a lot, and someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall Trump ever disparaging LGBT or implying he would do anything to harm social progress in that sphere.

It's mainly Pence we're worried about on that front.

EDIT: And the SCOTUS.

it's a referendum on how easily it was to demonize a black man and paint him as the boogyman that represents everything wrong with this country despite all evidence pointing to the contrary. It's a referendum on a group of people who, yes, have legitimate gripes about losing jobs, about the economy, about being disenfranchised and forgotten, but who in response to these gripes choose to blame "them". The blacks. The browns. The gays. The immigrants. The poor. Everything is their fault.

So this.

Forgotten or Left behind because the world is changing to fast... automation, science, ideas...

I wanna believe that this victory was carried over to the finish line by the anti-establishment sentiment rather than all the hate-filled drivel that the campaign and the GOP pandered to.
This is most likely true, and the DNC should have seen it, but it doesn't make it much better. Anti establishment is still anti judges, anti science, anti functioning government. Somewhat useful as something fringe, but not to run the country.

Donald Trump isn't going to start a world war.

No his impact is much more insidious and long term. This is something that's going to eat at our country for the next fifty years.

But he's not gonna start a world war.

Initial thoughts after natural panic attack:

I was wrong. I thought we were ready to move forward. I thought we were done with this bigotry. Instead, my country voted for the most hateful person they could find. We let fear, ignorance, and irrational loathing win. It's easy to say that we are doomed.

It'll be ok though. This might go really, really, bad, but we'll survive. For those that will be affected, let's use this as a chance to better pull together. Let's let this loss teach us that evil is perfectly capable of winning, and we hold responsibility for letting it happen. Instead of panicking, let's do something about it.

He may be the President, but he doesn't control this country and he certainly doesn't control you. We have four years to prepare for the next election, so let's wisely use the time. We need to get out of the sidelines and show them that this is not okay. Not just the Republicans but also the DNC, who selfishly nominated the only person that could lose to Donald Trump. This is not a government that's standing for progress and it's our fault for not taking a stand. Please get involved, please encourage others to get involved, and please encourage me to not be a hypocrite.

I'm devastated. I'm heartbroken at the fact that my country isn't where I thought it was. But there's no point in losing hope. There's no point in empty complaints. We can say no to his America. We can learn from this mistake. We can refuse his hatred and choose to love each other. We can finally make America great.

This is Obama right now:

Enjoy your victory Boomers. This is your last racist hurrah.

At least we're going to get some great punk albums.

This kind of delusion is what made this result possible. Stop pretending that it's just a dying subset of the US.
THIS IS THE US.

A nation that elected an openly racist, misgynist, alleged rapist, thin skinned orange Twat.

That is what the US is after today.

It's only fitting that at the end of the presidency of the first black man in America, an older white guy steps in, erases everything he did, and says "sorry son but your turn doesn't count."

I've never been so disappointed and ashamed to be an American.

You forgot the best part: The old white guy's victory speech had people yelling "kill Obama" in the middle of it.

I bet that Presidential candidate sucking up to Trump after he lost will be counting his lucky stars while others who turned against him are out in the cold. Hilarious.

Im just shocked that he won by that much. I'm trying not to go all tinfoil hat here but my brain just keeps saying something shady happened here.

well, you did it, america. i went to bed around the time you lot were panicking over florida, but figured things would go fine. they didn't.

Charlie Brooker was certain Trump would win, too. Part of that was possibly in the wake of S3 to boost his Black Mirror episode "The Waldo Moment," which looks disturbingly prophetic now, but he was one of the few public Trump haters who strongly felt he'd still win. Brexit probably didn't make him overly optimistic either.

'Black Mirror’ Creator Predicts Trump Will Be President: ‘I Find It F*cking Terrifying’

You know the worst part about this is that he denies climate change.

This is one of the most important issues in the next hundred years as a species. And the most powerful country in the world not only denies it, but also blames it to the second most powerful country in the world as a hoax.

Goddammit GAF :(

For the last two years if I expressed worries and asked "what if Donald Trump gets elected" I always got at least 3 replies saying: "He can't get elected, the white male vote isn't enough and that is the only thing he gets"

And now I wake up to this shit ;____;
Turns out he got the white female vote, too. Oops.

Has a president ever been allowed to own businesses and be president st the same time ? Seems like a conflict of interest . How long until we start seeing 100s more trump towers appearing out of nowhere ?

The reality we have to accept.

Our party has been trash for the last 25 years aside from two charismatic super stars who saved the day while everyone around them was losing.

We need to completely rebuild.

I'm disappointed and disgusted, simply because of the general trend we've seen in the world in recent times.

On the plus side, there's no way Trump isn't going to somehow utterly disappoint/disillusion his hardcore support base during his time in office. That will be fun to watch.

Hey man, these threads are moving lightning fast. You left a really good post in the closed thread, I'll respond to it here.

I'll give you a policy/plan of Trump's that I completely agree 100% with on every point:

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/policies/veterans-affairs-reform/

As a veteran, and knowing people personally who have been fucked by the VA, and with my own eyes seeing some extremely sad, soul-crushing shit at the hospitals, and with people literally dying while waiting for care...I'm all for every damn thing on this list.

What specifically about Trump's plan makes it better than Clinton's plan?

The Clinton position: The Clinton administration plans to address VA health care issues by modernizing it, holding its employees accountable, and blocking any attempts to privatize. "The VA needs to be strengthened, not privatized," Rosenberger added. However, the Clinton administration does acknowledge the need to encourage private partnerships, provide better care coordination, and focus on bringing the VA into the 21st century.

Her plan aims to modernize and refocus the full spectrum of veterans' benefits across the federal government; overhaul VA governance to create a new veteran-centric model of excellence; and empower veterans and strengthen the economy and communities by connecting their unique skills to growing job fields.

Yeah I had a feeling that it would come to this. When you read the media and GAF it seemed like 95% Hillary. But people are a lot more conservative than some may think. Can't say I'm disappointed with the results.

Hope Trump's term will reflect Obama's first term where the president and the house spent their entire political capital on one issue. In this case, it will probably be the Wall.

I am never trusting polls or smug gaffers ever again.

I feel so fucking stupid. Trump supporters were right all along.

I could tell you there was a good chance of this happening given the volatility of the campaign, particularly against Trump supporters.

So that climate change deal can not be reversed right? Please don't ignore it for 4 more years and screw both yourself and the world...

And fuck, hope Russia doesn't pull something stupid in the next few years because of this.
