I think this was probably the biggest misstep as well. You just can't say that. Cuts deep with people.
True. Especially when you get people declaring they're deplorables on election day all over social media. It obviously wasn't the only factor, but its something to consider.

I'm going to bed. Hopefully, this will all have been a dream, and I'll make a thread about it later.

I'd be honoured as a witness of Trump's America to be a figment of your imagination right now :(

In a very morbid and selfish way I want to see how Trump ruins the lives of his dear supporters and how long it will take for them to understand what they did to their country and the future of their children.
In a cruel twist of fate, the ones hurt the most by a Trump presidency will, by and large, be the people who didn't vote for him. White males (of all age groups) will solidify their privileged position in society as minorities find themselves further and further degraded, abused, and disenfranchised at a systemic level. The GOP is in a position to royally fuck anyone who doesn't belong to the majority for decades to come.

Let's be honest oti, they'll blame other people. That's how it always works. People don't learn.

Even if they don't learn, at least they themselves were responsible for what is about to be unleashed. You can deport people, build walls and shout all you want, the economy will respond and its response won't be pretty.

It's still hard to understand that this has actually happened.

I almost feel like a lot of nations need to implement some kind of test where voters have to show that they know something about politics before they can vote. Trump might not have been able to vote for himself.

Aren't people already annoyed at voter ID laws?

Your idea sounds fantastic

Obama thought like many of us, where reason is really what we work with.

He picked the wrong fucking country to be a part of.
Can't disagree with any of that. It really was the case that no one counted on just how many such reprehensible, delusional, or otherwise insane people would rise up and propel Trump to office.

Between things like this, Brexit, and Duterte being elected in the Philippines, I question just how much room there is for reason in politics anymore.

I begrudgingly voted Trump. If the Dems had given me a candidate I could have gotten behind I would have voted Dem. People loved jumping on me for my choice and calling me all kinds of names. Feeling a bit justified now. Still, really shitty that these were our choices.
Gay dude here. Thanks for helping to ensure that it's perfectly legal to discriminate against me in my workplace and future residences.

Our new VP, Mike Pence, supports the torture of gay people via conversion "therapy," so it's really cool that you helped to put him in power too. He's going to do a lot of good for my people, I'm sure.

Woke up to Trump saying to come together and that he's the president for all people.

Fucking walk off the top floor of your fucking tower, you useless fuck.

He had a narrow path and needed to win NC, Ohio, and Florida just to give him a shot of flipping a usual blue state for the Electoral College Win. What the Fuck.

Also, isn't Ohio supposed to be close? He won it rather easily.

Does it matter? You can think it, but you don't have to say it to their face. It's idiotic.

Its not going to convince them to vote for you. Or anyone. You only increase their conviction that you're the establishment that doesn't give a fuck about them. And see what happens?

Please, she never said all Trump supporters were deplorable, she even acknowledged the bullshit "economic anxiety" narrative when addressing it. I guess Trump suggesting black people are living in hell, or Muslims can't be trusted, or undocumented Mexicans are mostly terrible(but some might be okay) is perfectly acceptable to this people though, without an drop of nuance or empathy.

But who was treating whom as less than human?

The anti-Hillary folk weren't being assholes, but the Pro Hillary group were being COMPLETE assholes to those for somply not sharing the same opinion. Sorry, that's not on.
The both sides argument has popped up in this thread and some blame for Trumps win is being put on a lot of people for being assholes to Trump supporters and causing some kind of backlash. I dont agree with that and if I took your comment a little out of context I apologize. I was merely defending those who are angry by this election and angry with Trump supporters by saying that they dont need to show respect to those who would support such a biggot who views them as less than human.

I agree that the pro Hillary crowd was a bit overly aggressive but I honestly dont think it had any tangible effect on this election.

Not sure how I or people around me can get back to our lives. Trump has been powering hate and encouraging violence against people like me. The Trump rallies happened. The attacks happened. This shit isn't done. There is no uniting under Trump. The Trump rallies happened.

The only take away here is that shit is rotten in American. It's not safe for someone to be gay and/or not white.

What ever happened to those adds the Coen brothers were supposed to make with Camacho? Might have tipped the election.

It's crazy how Trump publicly humiliated and embarrassed the two most powerful families in politics.

The Bush family (Jeb!) and the Clintons. He dragged their family names through the mud.

Even if they don't learn, at least they themselves were responsible for what is about to be unleashed. You can deport people, build walls and shout all you want, the economy will respond and its response won't be pretty.

The bad thing is that shit like that has repercussions for us in Germany, oti.

I don't understand how anyone who aligns themselves with the values of what the Democratic party claims to stand for can sit back and just throw so many groups under the bus just because they don't think Clinton was an optimal candidate.

Actually, I take it back, I understand it perfectly. I just can't reconcile the reality of it. It's an uncomfortably common sentiment I've seen expressed, and it just blows my fucking brains to the wall.

People in these threads putting economic issues in front of social issues , really sums up the election and the types of people voting for Trump. "I've got mine, I don't care if you don't have yours". But also kind of infuriating also, because the democrats economic policy was a lot more sound than Trumps..... Mainly because it actually existed.

When things go inevitably wrong, they'll just place the blame on China/blacks/mexicans/muslins/<insert scapegoat here>
