He is? First time I'm hearing this. Source?

That being said, Hillary has taken positions on violent video games in the past as well, so that really wouldn't be a point of difference.

it's back from 2012 but the source is his twitter

As a South African, you guys just voted the equivalent of Jacob Zuma into office. This is surreal. The only difference is that internationally, we are inconsequential. At least we knew what we were getting into, the guy had 783 criminal charges against him when he came into office.

Enjoy the next 8 years. I know we have.

On the plus side, having a complete moron in office really destroys the support base of the ruling party. The opposition parties did exceptionally in our recent municipal elections, and 2019 might be the first time since 1994 that the ANC looses a national election. There's also increasing pressure internally from the ANC to recall Zuma, so maybe Trump will get recalled too?

If Trump is ever removed then Shadow President Pence is upgraded to President Pence. He is the real terror.

I realize Clinton was a bad candidate but what I misjudged so badly was how many white people were ok with a white supremacist, misogynistic platform. I don't know this America and it's scary.

I cannot believe this. Why America? I was looking at the thread before and many were saying Clinton was safe and now seeing this......my view on America has changed.

Anyone have that gif of the guy in a white vest drinking vodka from the bottle

so where do dem voters go from here? i assume the dnc is already looking at potential picks for next time and hopefully preparing for midterms... or are midterms a lost cause?

Presidents don't get recalled. They have to do something exceptionally criminal to get impeached by Congress. Congress is in Trump's favor. We're stuck with him for the next 4 years.

So, we've already blamed SJWs, not being nice enough to racists, calling out Trump's flaws and the DNC for electing a woman so far. Please internet and GAF, do continue to reconfirm my newfound beliefs in a shitty humanity.

In fairness, it's less being tolerant of racists and more coddling them because evidently they're thin skinned and petty. Calling out the racism emboldens them. Who knows.

They'll just shift all of the blame to Obama

am I understanding this correctly?? (I am non-american so bear with me)

I am watching the live results right this very second and it appears to be that about 120'000 americans made the difference.

so basically Brexit again? Brexit was 51% to 49% if I remember correctly. this is 48% vs 48%

I know in the US you have to win by state and not plain number of votes so I am not sure if the situation is similar.

You've just successfully explained to yourself how they're not similar.

The inability for polls to predict the result, the shock and the disbelief are similar.

But honestly Trump getting in is next level crazy.

Don't blame us city folks, lol.

Let's not forget perhaps his most dangerous platform of all, a climate change denier

You know what, maybe it was all a facade and he won't be that bad.

Obama better return to congress ot take the leadership of the dems though.

There's alot to blame for what happened but one of the big reasons is my generation aka " young college" people not feeling inspired by Hilary at all. Which. Is. Ironic.

Lying, cheating, bullying get rewarded. Before he even entered politics Trump screwed contractors, harassed female employees, gatecrashed charity galas he didn't donate to, dodged taxes, and actively campaigned for the execution of innocent people. In a just world he would be at most running a failing a second-hand car dealership. Instead he has been made leader of the free world, held up as the best we have to lead us and someone we should all aspire to be.

Obama's presidency is going to be seen as an aberrant blip. You may hope Trump talks himself into an impeachment or, like that Ubisoft guy, daydream of an assassination. Obvious immorality aside, all that would achieve is severe damage to the democratic process, a surge in support of Trump's policies, and the stepping-in of VP Pence. Trump's cabinet would be still be maintained. Rudy Giuliani, Chris Christie, Ben Carson, all still there.

What you should do? Look inward. Take that extra overtime, sell that luxury item you don't use anymore, so that your position is shored up and you have the resources when the bad times come to try and maintain your lifestyle.

The midterms aren't anymore of a lost cause than 2010 was for the GOP when the Dems did a clean sweep in 2008. We just need a reverse Tea Party.

Wait, how does the US voting system actually work? You don't need to get the majority of individual votes?

The Electoral College.

If a candidate wins the popular vote in a state, they receive all electoral votes in that state, with a couple exceptions.

In most cases, the winner in electoral votes also wins the popular vote. But not always. Like this election, most likely, and the 2000 race.

The Electoral College system itself isn't really a problem. The issue is the "winner take all" rule that 48 states have chosen to adopt. There is nothing stopping any of these states from changing this policy.

Wait, how does the US voting system actually work? You don't need to get the majority of individual votes?

You need to get 270 electoral votes in the so-called electoral college. Every state has varying amounts of electoral votes making certain states more valuable than others. It's why even with a map being vastly red it's still possible to win as a Dem, and it's basically to avoid something mismanaged like Brexit. Clinton had a whole bunch of paths to reap this election and pre-polling showed that a Florida win would have cinched the election for her... until she lost it.

Wow. Fuck this country.
Unbelievable. Truly.

One thing is for certain, America got the president they deserve. Congrats Assholes.

Time to retreat into a virtual world.

President is elected via the electoral college, so states have X number of votes that elect the POTUS. You win the state you get the votes (two states distribute differently are not fptp). The founding fathers put in it to protect the masses from themselves and to give each state a form of meaningful representation.

What a disappointing election cycle. This is totally on DNC/Hillary. I don't blame the voters one bit because we clearly had two very poor options and negative public opinion has been known far before either got the nomination. It was a coin flip for all the wrong reasons and it seems only those living within the social media bubble believed a Hillary win was a certainty. It didn't help that these same people largely resorted to a bullying-first strategy when interacting with undecideds while claiming to represent a party of inclusionism and love. (this was extremely prevalent on gaf whether y'all want to admit it or not) Attacking people by calling them "racists/sexists/etc" is a sure fire way to have someone distance themselves from the conversation in favor of seeking alternative discourse.

As someone who has voted democrat for the last 12 years I hope that both the DNC and us left-leaning souls learn from this. We need to start being what we claim to represent.
