Protests against Trump in NYC and other cities

I don't know. For me, personally, no. I am protesting to get my voice heard, not to change the results of the election. We have to stay engaged.

Yeah, for sure. How long does it take to count all the votes anyway? Are there a ton of absentee or something?

From everything I saw from the protests I thought everything was counted already.

But his cabinet is gonna be made up of the republican establishment.
Which isn't particularly avoidable for him. He at least has a better chance than a candidate in line with the establishment (if he actually follows through).

If I recall correctly, I read it can take another week or more to finish counting with absentee ballots, etc.

Sorry you feel that way. I wouldn't have voted for Trump over Hillary if I didn't think it was for the better of the country.

Perhaps not, I most likely wouldn't have gotten anything I wanted out of a Hillary presidency.

Hopefully strengthen the economy. Improve our foreign relations (Obama and Hillary have been a disaster in this category). Root out some of the corruption in government; the establishment (Dems and Repubs) has done a great job of shitting things up. Repeal the ACA. Improve our border security and immigration policies. Appoint Justices that will uphold the constitution (yes, including the 2nd amendment). Lastly, as for what I can think of off the top of my head, I don't believe Hillary was the right candidate to lead our country.

Also, in my opinion, everyone is over reacting and whipping themselves into a frenzy over results of the election.
I don't expect to convince anyone here of anything in regards to Trump or politics. I voted for my own reasons.

If I can, I'd like to reply to you in points. Please don't take these personally or feel overwhelmed as I'm sure many others are interested in your vote and reasonings.

- How can Trump strengthen an economy when his promises for the people who voted for him - jobs - literally cannot happen? To the Rust Belt, all of that shit is being automated. How do his tax breaks for the wealthy help anybody when they suck up all of the wealth that such a move makes? How does any of this sincerely help you?

- How can he get rid of the establishment when his plans to drain the swamp have already died, and outside of him being the only major cog to change, the entire establishment for the last 6 years that's been the main problem (Republicans, mainly) are all still there. Every enemy of reason is still employed in the asylum.

- When you want the ACA repealed, what do you want it repealed to? The Republicans want the company cartel system back, where you as an individual are suspect to all of their collusions, greed, exaggerated prices, and loopholes to try and not care for you. This retreat is towards the same system that's allowed 50,000 people per year to die simply by being American, because no other country in the developed world has this type of dualism and nonsense. Do you really believe this is a good thing?

How does he have a better chance if he has been campaigning with these people the whole election?

Go look at his choices for his cabinet. Ben Carson, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Guillioni, Chris Christie.

His Vice President is Mike Pence.

Establishment.

CNN is now "projecting" Trump might win the popular vote too.. would this change anything for the protests?
Where? They are showing a 313,358 vote lead for Clinton to me.

I don't think so, CNN's map is only showing 68, 86, and 63% percent in for CA, OR, and WA respectively. They should keep her the popular winner.

No red state except for Alaska is showing less than 94% in, most are 96-99%.

How can you honestly believe that a dude that bankrupted a casino can fix the economy? Do you really believe this buffoon will improve foreign relations? You think the dude that is letting his own kids run his business as a blind trust is going to fix corruption? The dude with the taxes plan that will affect mostly low income people. Improve border security how? He isn't building the wall, and if he did, he'd literally send the entire country to bankrupcy. It's logistically impossible. "Improved" immigration policies? He wants to deport people that are in the US under DACA. People who have lived in the US for decades, have their whole lifes here as productive members of society that pay their taxes. Have you seen what it's going to be his cabinet? Full of people that want to take away the very human rights of their citizens.

Jesus christ Trump supporters are really completely immune to facts wtf.

And even if those "policies" were possible and positive for the country, Trump voters are still entirely okay with his racism and sexism and homophobia

These protests are good. They are getting a lot of coverage across the world news. It is reminding people that Trump does not represent all of us.

It was also reported as being the first protest of its kind (after the election results), is that true?

Yeah, the #'s still show she's leading, its just their little graphic "projected winner" is next to Trump.

But we all know how projections turned out this year! Wasn't sure if I was missing something or not.

Not sure how reliable these numbers are but according to the Facebook invitation, there could be more than a thousand people in downtown Columbus tonight.

If there are any people on GAF who live in Columbus Ohio, I hope you end up going.

You can ask and ask, as I have for so long, and if any of them decide to answer you, you'll get Obamacare and maybe something on illegals but they'll always avoid the big question. None of them will touch the racist, xenophobic stuff. They'll avoid all the bad shit we really want to know their opinions on because they know. You'll maybe, maybe get some bullshit about how Trump will bring unity because class warfare and BLM will go away or something. Oh, and then your intelligence might be insulted.

That's what you'll get. Keep asking though because I sure will be.

Edit: I see you apologized. Good on ya.

My parents say they voted for him to repeal Obamacare and to stop immigration. The fact they've said that they hate niggers has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Shit man, i'd give them a very, extremely small pass if I thought there was a remote chance he'd do anything good.

But we're literally dealing with a madman that has no political experience whatsoever, no idea how to run a country, no stamina to do it, a comprehension of economy so terrible he bankrupted his own companies several times, including a casino, the fucking business no one else manages to make fail, a childish temperament, policies that literally every expert will tell you will fuck up the economy, a tax plan that fucks up low income people.

Believing he'll fix the economy and bring back jobs is insane. There are conspiracy theorists with more credibility.

reviewing the exit poll info on CNN.

From age 40-65+ = 65% of the vote. 35% are people from 18-40... the young vote is low. only 9% were between 25-29. fuck im part of that 9% lol damn

those exit polls are interesting. even though they only show a data grab of 25k people.

About a hundred high schoolers just marched by my house and I went to go see. We're at city Hall now. I talked to one of their teachers and he said this was not scheduled they all just walked off.

Trump in power didn't happen because of the people who voted, this happened because of the people who didn't vote.

Why should a majority vote even translate to falling in line for the disenfranchised? And beyond that, there are many other reason to voice your dissent against Trump like him,

-Being a Bigot
-Being a Misogynist
-Being a blatant Liar
-Undisclosed information such as taxes, ties with foreign entities and etc.
-Being a Climate Denier
-Asking for supporters to actively attack others and suppress votes
-THE LIST GOES FUCKING ON AND ON AND ON AND ON....

So this idea that just because the majority may have agreed to support an idiot doesn't dismiss the nature of these protest.

And I swear, how the fuck is it possible to only leverage Constitutional rights like free speech when it only profits you?

When one party is actively engaged and willing to act on voter suppression, that is the antithesis of democracy.

This is great to hear. The apathy of millenials in regards to politics beyond tweeting and posting messages on facebook (I'm counting myself among them) could be finally over.

It's going good. We have a few nice cops making I production with the teachers that followed, adults joining and many encouraging honks from traffic. This is an affluent white suburb in the bay area.

O and it looks like a few aggressive drive bays from random young men yelling out the window. One car with young white kids yelling fuck you faggots and a car with Latino boys just yelling trump.

Oh I see they have a leader. She's rallying the whole group to pick up their mess and begin the March back. Impressive.

ehit: on the walk home I noticed that this group is predominantly female students. Possibly 75%

Yeah maybe those high school students will remember this in two years when some of them can vote.

I hope Trump's victory wakes millennials up. I know a lot of them thought that it didn't matter and that Hillary would win regardless. Now they realize that all it takes is a shift in the electorate and we can let a bunch of goons run the country for four years.

Keep protesting. Need to get larger and larger. More and more. Get it on the news every night. Its gonna be hard but right now i think enough people are terrified and depressed to actually do it. Im feeling abnormal things that arent at all normal, usually things when a personal tragedy happens or whatever, but its about the election. Colbert was right, everyone overdosed heavy this year on politics more than any other because of the trump circus, ignored real issues doing it, and now are way more invested.

I'm in Canada, but I'm sending my protest energy a la Spirit Bomb.

You should get it by Friday.

At this point, the protest needs to exists if only as a show against racism.

Keep protesting. Not to change the election result, but to change this fucking system. Laws are not some holy unchangable thing. They are made by people.

What is trump referring to when he posted this?
It was when Romney lost but it was looking like Romney won the popular vote, however California wasn't done counting yet. Obama actually won the popular vote. In other words he was advocating for what we are doing now. I await his words of hypocrisy.

Immume to facts and proud of it sadly. How many times did they eat up Trump's lies and even cheer them (even at fucking debates).

Yup need to do it everyday. Every day it will get larger and larger. Only thing is it will slow down in the north when it gets colder. When 1/20 comes though it needs to be huge. Can not let this up.
