Jeff Sessions is all but Trumps attorney general.

"Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III" has got to be the most Confederate sounding name ever.

Feature, not a bug.

Sessions, who attended all-white segregated schools, was named for Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, and Confederate Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard, who was “instrumental” in the adoption of the Confederate battle flag. He spoke earlier this year about his regrets about not getting involved in the civil rights movement as a young adult.

I really can't give Trump the benefit of the doubt on this. I still don't think he's a strong conservative, but he's definitely forming a shitty administration. Sessions is just a straight up old school racist with no outstanding qualifications. Best case scenario is that Trump is simply rewarding those who supported him early on...

You know they can't be fired from these positions? There's no precedent for it.

Okay, so going forward, can we agree to cut it out with the "At least it's not ____" posts? It's pretty obvious now that Trump's cabinet is going to be the worst case scenario.

Too bad there aren't at least 3 GOP Senators with moral fiber.

It remains to be seen. Some of the confirmation hearings will be shitshows. Trump is going in unpopular and isn't likely to be putting the nation at ease in the weeks to come. Jeff Flake being on board already sucks though. Thought he could be one of the 3 on this sort of b.s.

That's exactly what this is. The problem is that Trump's like a etch-a-sketch and forms his opinions based on the last person to talk to him. And the people that are going to be around him these next four years are some terrible human beings. It's a bad combination.

Can he legalize the Confederate flag?

I mean holy shit, to be prevented from becoming a judge because he's too racist... that's a hell of a bad nominee.

I am looking forward to Jeff Sessions referring to Obama's term as "the recent unpleasantness" during sworn testimony to congress. BARF.

The only good part is that he won't be in the Senate anymore but I have faith in my state that we can find someone just as bad if not worse.

Too racist to be confirmed by Republicans in 1986.

We're following up two African-American AG's with a man too racist to be a judge in 1986 America, let alone 2016.

Voting Rights and Civil Rights will be (ARE) under assault. Dig in and be ready to fight. History is no straight line forward.

First of all, there's nothing illegal about the confederate flag. It's horrible and a symbol of hate, but there's nothing illegal about it.

Second, the AG has no legislative power. He can't legalize anything, but he will run the Justice Department.

All offices and cabinet positions under the president serve at the pleasure of the President, and can be fired any time. In 1952 Harry Truman fired Howard McGrath for some fuckery with corruption.

Trump however values loyalty above all else, as long as someone stays loyal I doubt they have anything to worry about. Bush was very similar I believe.

You should Christie what he thinks about that.

2018 can't come soon enough. Our first chance to start tossing Republicans.

There is an enormous amount of work to do to get there.

1. Democrats don't vote in midterms. This has to change fast.

2. Voter ID laws will get much more restrictive, which will likely disenfranchise democrats forever. The party will have to shift centre-right populist to compete.

3. There is very weak state level and rural game with the party. It needs a huge overhaul.

4. The party will have to do a policy overhaul to first get a stronger platform (economic beats social) and second a rethink of its goals and methods of achieving that.

Honestly, go volunteer TODAY. Go donate NOW. Nothing will change unless you get up and change it. Get everyone to, your contribution can make a big difference.

Christie sent the father of Trump's son in law in jail. He never intended to elevate him.

How does this contradict my statement? Trump clearly does not value loyalty above all else. I think the only thing you can say is that Trump likes to associate himself with yes-man and loves chaos/turmoil within his inner circle.
