Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

Okay...

I've been trying to catch a Rockruff here at Ten Carat Hill for like an hour now.

Can they not be caught at night? >_>

To be sure, you're looking for them outside in the grass, in the Farthest Hollow, and not in the cave right? They're pretty common.

Thanks for the responses!

Yeah, I'm in Farthest Hollow and I'm in the grass. I guess I'm just getting RNG'd hard, cause I already caught a Spinda and beat two others, and keep getting Roggenrolas.

I'll keep at it.

We really need a separate thread for at least 2 things.

-A Pre-Bank Pokemon GAF tourney (Increases team options and variety and levels playing field)

-A general breeding/trading thread. It's hard to find stuff in here.

If neither of these exist I'll make them once I complete the game. Setting up the tourney may need some help.

There is no reason I should have to pass 27 turns just for one Pokemon to finally decide to call for help...and not get any. Something needs fixed here.

I'll gladly participate a tourney pre-bank tourney, I just need a ditto with great IV ._.

Agree with you man, there are so many things in this game that is a step back from X/Y

Can I buy the yellow shirt with Alolan Eggxecutor on it? Or is that a sweet NPC exclusive?

Also does more clothing unlock after you beat the game? I haven't gone back to check yet.

I know you can get a team skull tank, but that's all I saw

It took me about 40 minutes to get one. At one point I encountered 7 Machop in a row...

Right now what is killing me is catching a female Salandit.

Well just finished the game. I loved it and i'd put it as one of my top Pokemon games.I liked the ending a lot as it just felt really lively and grand. <3

Can you not fight the fight the Akala captains after you finish the island? I thought they would all have an optional battle like Illima.

Man, there's just so many annoyances with these games. The new Pokemon's stats are such a mess lol. They're all uber slow, while the old mons are generally much faster. Unless I have Cutiefly out, I can almost never run away from wild Pokemon. It's infuriating.

The Akala ones definitely do. Lana and Mallow's homes are in Konikoni and Kiawe's is in Paniola. However, Mallow and Kiawe only unlock the Reverent style and I think you can only fight one. It may be based on version or something else, I dunno. I encountered Mallow in Moon and Kiawe in Sun.

Weird. I went to Mallow's house but she wasn't there (I'm playing Moon).

Edit: Oh. she can only be fought during the day.

Agree with you man, there are so many things in this game that is a step back from X/Y

For me, Sun & Moon have only solidified that I hated X/Y. I accepted it at the time because it was the newest Pokémon game, but some retrospect has cleared up for me that I took little to no pleasure in my extended experience with the entry and it is probably the least I have ever enjoyed playing a game relative to the actual time I put into it.

I've been playing Pokémon since R/B and have watched the series iterate in the most tiny and meaningless ways for twenty years. I have watched the series take one step forward and one step back with games that are "the best in the series, except..." over and over again. I was so used to it that I never evaluated XY for what it really was: a pathetic experiment. There were some major quality of life improvements that only felt so significant because Pokémon had been terrible enough not to have them for as long as they did.

How good Sun & Moon are has made me realize that the Poké Dex used to not matter at all and had no bearing on the Pokémon you encountered. It has made me realize how cumbersome the PC experience has been when it came to moving and storing your captures. It has made me realize that catching a cool Pokémon off the beaten path necessitated leaving the area so you could retrieve it and use it. It has made me realize that Pokémon games, in some ways, have just been so bad. It has made me really think about all the Pokémon I had to ruin by teaching them unforgettable moves like Flash and Rock Slide. For twenty years.

There are virtually no changes to Sun/Moon I don't perceive as welcome additions. Everything they have done is an improvement to me. From the way the Poké Dex fills up to its impact on battles to the way encounter tables are set up, this is my seminal Pokémon experience to finally rival my original thrall with the series.

And for as much as I have come to love Sun & Moon, I have come to despise X/Y. I can't believe how long I deluded myself into thinking it was okay.

I want that time back so I can spend it playing Moon instead.

Obviously this is to be taken as a personal impression and not a matter of fact.

I wish they'd do that more often.

So annoying trying to catch a new Pokemon and having it keep calling for help.
And I shouldn't have to carry a Pokemon with a paralysing move, they've done away with that shit with the removal of HMs.

So I've finally reached the last island and I've already logged 25 hours. Kind of curious how long the final island is.

So doing some quick theorycrafting of ditto chaining (4 max IV ditto will have to be good enough for breeding) and I want to know if I've got this correct:
If I use Granbull with the quick feet ability (I want to guarantee moving first) and get it burned (burn is 1/16 HP damage per turn now) when a Ditto transforms into it it shouldn't get the speed boost from quick feet. I'm a bit confused here as ditto copies stats and boosts but this boost is dependent on having a status.

I did a load of calculations and forgot to account for Ditto copying non-HP stats (maybe I'm over thinking by taking into account imposter Ditto) properly so the idea of sludge bomb Granbull looks a lot less rosy than it did initially (can't OHKO, gets 2HKOd) so I guess it's back to the drawing board to try and find an unkillable combo. My ideas are holding air balloon with something that is weak to ground and only knows attacking ground moves. Alolan Marowak seems to fit that and when the time comes to end the chain switch to a not too high level Haunter with hypnosis and night shade.

But in general if you're worried about survivability make an ingain, aqua ring, baton pass Smeargle. Use wild Ditto or Smeargle (more common) to sketch those as there are no rematchable double battles in this game.

Have you paralyzed the Pokemon? I hear that Pokemon can't call for help if under status.
edit: Kind of misread. I saw it actually called. What was it's HP? Also stronger species tend to call less frequently than weaker ones.

I think what happens is that it randomly picks an SOS row , looks across for the column corresponding to the Pokemon calling for help, and then uses the encounter chance as the base for something responding (it would explain why trash mons are so much more likely to get reinforcements since they have high encounter rates).

Is the gift Munchlax special in any way in regards to moves and such?
As in should I reset for a good nature or is it expendable?
Only way to get snorlium z (I'm reminded of Torchic back in XY) and it knows the move hold back which is exactly the same as false swipe (which munchlax or snorlax can't learn).

Adamant is probably the best nature but I tend not to beat myself up about natures during the story and I don't see it being used competitively (you'll breed another one).

Got my game yesterday.

2 hours in, liking it so far. Narration for the most part sounds and looks better than previous games so far.

Snorlium Z isn't locked to this Munchlax though, and I'm not exactly dying to have a Snorlax with a false swipe equivalent lol.
So I'll just keep my +Sp Atk Munchlax then.

I'm not even gonna sleep once it comes out at midnight, since I preloaded it. Still, can hardly wait any longer at this point

I forgot pre-loading was a thing on Nintendo consoles for a second. Contemplating buying a new sd card now if it means playing the game earlier

I'm really disappointed with the dearth of new Pokemon so far. New duders are the main draw for me, I'm just not interested in training any of the old guys, and here they're so few and far between. Pikipek? Yeah! Yungoos? Get in my party you handsome devil. But ...Ledyba? Metapod? Magnemite? Like, what are we doing here?

I didn't look at any of the leaks, but I was hoping for a good-sized generation of new Pokemon again.

Well apparently my wife managed to catch the PokeRus last night. And now we're both flooded in virus'd pokemon. Did they boost the rate on it showing up this gen?

Endgame spoilers

I absolutely LOVE the concept of defending champion battles but I wish I could also battle these people elsewhere :|

The struggle has paid off. I finally got Pichu to evolve into Pikachu. Been petting and loving on the little guy for a long ass time but the final heart was the hardest and took the most effort to get even with a Soothe Bell.

Hoping I don't have to do the same with the Igglybuff I caught and can just catch a Jigglypuff. Gotta have my Wigglytuff.

Those days are probably over since they seem to not want to retread old ideas (except for the Pikaclones) since Gen VI. This is great in terms of making sure (almost) every new Pokemon is team-worthy material, but not so good for filling out the world to differentiate it from the past. True, no one ever used Ariados, Pelipper, or Lumineon, but they had their place all the same.

I wonder if they'll ever do another all-new dex like in Gen V, though that would involve even more rehashes.

The hearts from Pokemon Refresh and friendship evolutions are two entirely unrelated mechanics.

It's a coincidence if it evolved after getting the 5th heart.

Certain events increase a Pokémon's friendship (gaining a level, walking a certain amount of steps) or decrease it (fainting, using herbal medicine).

I just found Seaward Cave on the first island. That place is really hidden. The game certainly blocks you off from exploring at times, but there are still areas that many players probably miss.

I also got Totodile, so I now have all the Johto starters. Very tempted to Johto it up for the rest of the game...

Totem Pokemon aren't that good of an addition to the game. They were fresh and exciting at first until it became apparent how much of a disadvantage it puts out at. Basically 2 on 1 battles with one of the Pokemon being super bulky. Some of these fights are hard for the wrong reasons.
