Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

I picked up a 55 inch Samsung KU6500 (the curved version of the KU6300) and I'm very impressed with the quality of the display. I tried out HDR with Infamous: First Light and didn't really know what I was looking for in terms of a visual difference. It was very dark, but the game is generally dark. It looked pretty excellent though with that being said. Played some DOOM on this set as well and it's a big improvement over my older 2010 55 inch Samsung LCD set. Maybe my settings were bad on the old set but the dark corridors and rooms are much more clear on this set for this game.

However, I am contemplating returning the KU6500 and getting the KS8000 for completely shallow aesthetic reasons that have nothing to do with the lack of true HDR with the KU6500. The plastic stand and bezel are cheap looking for such a bold curved design and I'd rather go with a flat KS8000 with better materials. I understand it's budget priced but there are worse TVs with better looking materials. I own two other Samsung TVs and they both have nice "glass"-like stands and bezels, and nice metal back panel and this TV looks cheap compared to them. I'll give it a few more days to see if I can live with it.

My current 4k Samsung is really nice, but doesn't do HDR. What's the best 4k set right now if price isn't a huge concern? Do not want a curved display. I haven't really been keeping up with these things since I got my set a year or two ago.

AGS is trash man. If I ever order from Samsung again I will insist on another shipper (if it's possible) and pay the extra. Give them a call and set up the appointment instead of waiting on them.

Absolute utter garbage trash. I dealt with the rudest lady on the phone the first time I called and I gave her my phone number for them to call me and schedule a delivery appointment. They never did. So I called back the day it should have arrived to check its status. Turns out they had no intention on calling me and my TV is just sitting in a shipping center or something nearby me in Chicago. They allowed me to setup up a delivery appointment. This is already six days after I ordered it. The earliest day they had available was November 29th. A full two weeks after ordering.

So, for shipping that was quoted as 1-3 days, I will have had to wait two fucking weeks.

I just bought a cheap soundbar from Samsung through EPP too and I'm loathe to imagine how much of a hassle that will fucking be. Based on what you said, I'm going to contact Samsung tonight and see if I can't secure different shipping.

It almost makes it all not worth the incredible discount. Almost.

Strange, logged in to perksatwork account and use my old Samsung account sign in and still show $999.99. Its this epp deal dead??? Thanks for help.
I don't know what the issue is, then. I just logged into Samsung's site and it's still showing me the EPP price. (Don't bother with perksatworrk at all. You should just be going to Samsung's site.)

if your samsung account does have the corporate logo next to your name, you will not get the EPP pricing.

They still haven't called me back. 5-10 minutes my ass. It has been 2.5 hours.

Try another browser. I've had issues with the prices showing up differently using my work PC.

Call them back. It's the only way you can get anywhere with this awful company.

I just called them and am beyond f***ing livid. Customer service had to contact the local office doing the delivery again. After sitting on hold for some time she comes back and says the earliest it can be delivered is next Tuesday between 12pm and 4pm! So I ask her where the office is that it's being held at is and it's in friggin Milwaukee which is 2 hours away.

This is such bull****. I already moved the other TV from the man cave to the living room as the expected delivery was today.

So Currys utterly failed once more. Attempted delivery and apparently couldn't, even though I was in all day.

I've been off work now for 9 days, 7 of which I was supposed to have my Pro and my 4k. It blows.

So the TV is canceled and refunded, I think I've managed to get away with not giving back the free soundbar because of all the problems I've had. Useful since I sold it already.

Off to John Lewis tomorrow to buy one (and get another free soundbar).

Will never use Currys again after this experience.

I'm experiencing a problem with my B6 (or maybe my setup). When I enable Ultra HDMI deep color I lose all audio from my direct tv receiver but it works when I use an app (Amazon, Netflix etc...), it if turn that setting off the audio will come back on. I'm using a Sony branded sound bar connected via optical cable to the back of the TV. The direct tv receiver is on HDMI input 2 (it was on 1--moved it to see if there was any difference). I haven't yet had a chance to change the HDMI cable. Possibility this is a problem with the HDMI cable. I bought some Amazon basics cables so I going to swap it out with that to see if it makes any difference.

Also, while watching Daredevil on Netflix it appears to be very noisy in the very white/very black areas of the picture (it looks like pixels are moving). This is at 4k Dolby Vision according to the header on the show. Also wondering if this is just a nature of streaming video's at the resolution or if it's a cabling or TV settings issue.

LG 55B6 £1700 at Argos for those in the UK. £1899 and 10% off with a code. Almost tempted to switch from my Sony XD93. Although it's still a good £3-400 more

If you are playing in game mode it does not automatically set the back light to 20 and the contrast to 100 when HDR content is played. Out side of game mode this works. That is likely why it looks darker. Just manually change those. Mind you, you then need to manually change them back for non HDR in game mode. It's a pain in the ass and I hope Samsung can change it. Also the HDR is not full spec with wide colour gamut so you don't get that benefit. Still looks great. Very happy with my 6290. Of course if I could have gotten an 8000 for the same price I would have. It's twice the cost of the 6290 here.

Thx guys, I'll try again when I get home, see if my company logo will be next to my Samsung account. I'm buying that TV for my sister.

Thanks to everyone who answered questions!

Love my new 50 inch samsung 4k!

Dude, I can relate. Literally the exact same thing happened to me. I'll receive mine Tuesday as well. After waiting two fucking weeks.

On the Samsung site mine says it shipped yesterday, but AGS doesn't even have the tracking number in their system yet.

I honestly don't mind waiting, but I would like to see the status of my package.

I also ordered from Samsung last night and paid for 2 day air. Before ordering it said that it would take 1-3 days. What has been the experience for folks ordering from Samsung thus far? So far doesn't seem -by some posts- to not be very customer friendly.

I'm hoping to get it before the end of this week but I think it's doubtful.

I ended up going to the warehouse and picking up my 65" ks8000 after confirmation it would fit in my sportwagen. It's a beast. Having a friend help me unbox it later then going to celebrate my birthday!

I've got a low end 4k hisense tv that i bought for the kid's lounge... i don't think it supports hdr.

I'm all for upgrading but would it be worth it?

AGS just delivered my 65 KS8000 and its immaculate! Updating my firmware and then onto Netflix to check out some Marco Polo in HDR goodness. Tomorrow my PS4 Pro will arrive!

Rtings finally posted a video review of the 6300 today. So I thought I'd post it here for those who are on a tighter budget.

It really is a brilliant TV. I can't recommend it enough for people who are on a strict budget, but want a decent 4K TV. It obviously won't match any OLED or quantum dot TV in terms of IQ, but for a TV less than £500, you can't complain. The video is wrong, though. HDR looks great when playing Ratchet & Clank.

I was in the same situation. I said fuck them and called up the place it was located at and went and picked it up myself. Drove home that night with it. Im from Chicago too and the shipping center was in Elk Grove I believe

It's not wrong. HDR looks great but it doesn't have the hardware and features to fully provide the premium HDR experience because it doesn't have wide color gamut or the brightness needed. That's not to say it doesn't have the ability to receive and display a picture from HDR10 metadata. But if you put the TV next to a KS8000/9000 there's a marked difference in terms of HDR.

I'm planning to pick up another KU6290 in short order to provide a comparison as best I can. Obviously since I can really only display it in SDR it will be harder to show the differences. But I can at least try to describe it while showing the IQ generally of the 6290.

The wide color gamut matters more with HDR. People say brightness is a huge factor and it is true. But missing out on the expanded color really takes away. Any type of HDR is better than nothing though.

Yup I got this one yesterday as I posted above.

I for one am impressed with the picture big time, though I am coming from a 1080p 40 inch so I was bound to be wowed, I don't look at fancy TVs all day like they do lol.

Here's how it looks streaming a 4k vid from youtube-

That looks incredible to me. Whether it is due to the partial HDR this TV has, or a video made to demonstrate 4k in the best way possible, I'm not sure. Not informed enough to know lol.

If you go without Dynamic Contrast it doesn't matter as much. However, I'm still a skeptic as to the entirely off no matter your viewing situation. For dark viewing room it probably doesn't matter nearly as much.

I was referring to the fact they were implying the HDR on the KU6000 looks awful. I have my TV calibrated and, personally, I think it looks great. I'd said that compared to an OLED or QD display it looks weak, but for its price, it's more than acceptable.

As I discussed on here yesterday, it is definitely a compromise. If you go in knowing that, then it's a great TV I think.

The lack of input lag is near top-of-the-line, the price for my 50 inch was $470 at Target and will almost certainly be even better on Black Friday (I just didn't wanna fight crowds or be refreshing online), and yes, you still get some bit of HDR that will look quite great if you are coming off of a basic 1080p set like I was.

If you're after bang for the buck like I was, it's hard to beat.

Even against another mid range set it looks weaker because it doesn't have the expanded color. A fully calibrated image looks great because you are viewing a 4K image. But the goal is the best 4K PLUS HDR with low input lag for gaming. Now a lot of it is compromise, but with the 6300 series you are compromising on not only full HDR10 brightness but an expanded color gamut. With the X800D you are compromising on lower brightness etc. However budget matters most. And some form of HDR is better than nothing at all.

Oh totally guys. Just want to be clear I absolutely think it's a phenomenal set for the price with only that one major caveat of HDR and then judder for some. But outside that, you can't really go wrong here. Iy definitely still receives HDR metadata and can show it.

You seem to know what you are talking about lol.

Rtings was a bit confusing because they updated their review a few weeks back to say that this tv DOES get 10 bit on the "gradient". Is that just simply not the same as the "gamut" which limits this TV from full HDR? Sorry, am a noob.

So what's game mode

Do I use that? Or does it turn off all image processing and make it fugly like a fuggo

Fuck, why couldn't it be in the city... I don't have a car but I totally have the time to do that tomorrow.

But there's no way I'm lugging that around on the CTA. Especially not the fucking Blue Line.

10 bit refers to the amount of color gradients that can be shown essentially. 8 bit is well 8 bit. So it can show 256 shades of Red, Blue and Green. 256^3 which an output ~16.7 million shades of color. Where 10 bit is 1024 shades of each primary color. So 1024^3 which is ~1.07 billion possible shades of color.

Gamut refers to how well those colors are actually able to be displayed. The wider the gamut the better coverage it has to be able to show distinct and saturated values between them without being approximated essentially. The 6300 is 8+2bit with dithering (I believe) and it has good dithering so it is able to provide a good gradient on that range of 10 bit colors. But it's an approximation of what should be shown in 10 bit. However given the more limited color gamut on the set it doesn't matter as much.

That's how I understand it at least.

Yes, you totally wanna use game mode since it lowers input lag. I recall you said that you picked up the KS8000, and according to rtings the input lag is around 21 millisecs when playing games in game mode/HDR
