Dear gaf.... what have I done????

Yeah initially I didn't really want to spend more than ~400 on a TV but, man, I have to say I'm glad I splurged a little on this KS8000. GAF has led me astray some this year (I will *NEVER* forgive you for the NMS hype), but you were so on point with this recommendation. Hell I even enjoy looking at it while it's turned off. It's too bad they fumbled the Note 7 release so badly. If their phones were even half as good as this I would've switched as I'm bored with iPhone.

Still hoping for a deal on the 49" version.

this was me this whole week. i went from thinking about buying the ku6300, to actually buying a sony x800d, but now i'm about to pick up a ks8000. ill return the x800d next week when its not crazy black friday mode in the stores. Also, i am curious about putting them side by side and see how much of a difference it really is.

The 6300 is a nice display, but I think I will take it back, 50" isn't going to cut it for me and its got quite a bit of motion blur. I'm coming from a 42".

Where do you go from here within your range? Any vizio's interest you?

I'm probably gonna stick it out with my 42" 1080p 120hz set and wait for OLED prices to continue to drop. Ideally I want a 55" set that is 120hz, I can get the 55" KS8000 for $729 + tax but I can't afford that right now.

I feel you. Good luck whatever you decide.

I don't have time to read through 77 pages..is there a "Pioneer Kuro" of 4K tvs?

What made the Pioneer Kuro so special is that it took many years for something to come out better...OLED. That's rare in the always improving technology industry. The sets out now will be bested next year so in those terms no....but OLED is far superior than a Kuro and cheaper.

I just got the 50" today and its a great set for the price. There's a bit of motion blur that bothers me but that's expected for a 60hz set. I paid $400 at Costco for mine. Also the smart remote won't pair with my soundbar which sucks.

Thanks, I had no intentions to get a new Tv this year, but i just entered impulse buy territory, lol.

Hi GAF, homest question here. We just bought the Samsung UN65KS9000FXZX for the household. I have been super busy, and haven't been able ti read this thread, but I see the KS8000 mentioned everywhere but nothing about the 9000. Is this good for gaming? Where can I find good settings for it? Just finished installing it.

It looks great already by itself!

Dear gaf.... what have I done????
Well, depending on what you're coming from, it sounds like you've put together your own little home entertainment heaven.

If I weren't planning on trading in my car in the next few months and making up for crappy Christmas presents the last two years, I would be joining you.

You can probably use the same settings for the KS8000 on rtings.com for it. Its obviously a better set than the KS8000, but most reviews say that the price difference between the 9000 and 8000 isn't worth it.

Bought a 50" KS6300 at Sam's Club today, its labeled as a KS630D but its the exact same thing as the 6300 model with a slightly different mount color, Samsung sends Costco/Sam's Club a slightly different model so retailers don't have to price match them on discounts.

Was planning on waiting until superbowl to upgrade my living room TV to a KS8000 or something new from CES, but the deal was just too good: $398 at Sam's Club today ($80 off) PLUS my american express card got an offer yesterday - 20% off any $100+ purchase at Sam's Club. That dropped the price of the TV to $320+tax, hard not to bite. In and out in a few minutes, they had tons and tons of 50-70" Vizio's on sale but not that many people looking at the smaller Samsung's. Every AMEX card should have it in the offers section, good until mid Jan I believe but one time offer only. Plus I'll get back 1% for being sams club plus.

Just upgraded to a PS4 Pro this week as well due to a nice gamestop trade bonus, and it looks absolutely stunning. It was nice going from 65" to 50", while I am a "bigger is always better!" guy in life it sorta made it hard to see the entire screen at once. Going from a 3 year old Samsung to this model is fantastic. I will probably swap again next year to an OLED or the KS8000 successor but for now the KS6300 is absolutely fantastic.

I don't even have HDR enabled at the moment, since I go through an old HDMI soundbar it doesn't seem to be playing nice with HDR or HDCP. Also a bummer that only HDMI1 supports UHD, I have my PC hooked up to HDMI2 and may have to redo some of that. Still looks fantastic.

KS8000 is definitely the way to go but for only $320 I've got a nice gaming set that'll give me some room to figure out what is best after CES. I did see a ton of 60" KS8000's at Best Buy for $1200 which is pretty good, but I fully expect that to be $1k or less around Superbowl.

The Samsung 49KS7000 is now £799 at Currys.

Is this the TV to go for?

For that budget and at that size, probably yes.

Just picked up a Sony 55XD93 from richer sounds. Was £1599 everywhere a couple of weeks ago, but now it is £1399, plus 3% back via quidco so around £1350. Have nowhere to put it yet so I doubt I'll get it set up this weekend

I like to game close to my TV. Would I like a curved TV better for more immersion, or is it not worth it?

If you had to choose between 65 inch KS8000 or 55 inch LG OLED what would you choose? (LG is 200 USD more)

EDIT - KS8000 is side lit? :( What is back lit that compares. I am surprised everyone praising that model for few MS difference in response time when it is not back lit like other models.

I saw the LG in person and it's crazy how good it looks in person. If you can afford to drop another $200, you won't regret it.

Just double check here

To see if the TVs you want fits your desired needs. If you want a TV for mostly movies or TV, and the KS8000 scores higher go with that

KS8000 is edgelit. Means you'll probably get light bleeding. LG OLED or Vizio P Series is better, IMO. Curved TV is kinda pointless.

It's edge lit. Top and bottom. Uniformity on the AA01 panels is fantastic. I'd love to see this in a full array backlight confirguration, but the KS9800 model is only available curved, is expensive, and is only available in larger sizes.

The color, brightness, and color range of the KS8000 at the price point is worthy of all the praise it's getting.

The OLED displays are gorgeous, they have input lag right now though I believe so they're not great for gaming. Unless they fixed it?

Jumped in.
Went with the XBR930D 65 inch.

I know about the input lag but this is ultimately an all around TV for many purposes.

Plus that KS8000 is so fucking ugly in person. What are those Fallout 4 cheap metal feet that it sits on? Looks like it belongs at Epcot Center.

Just got my KS9000 and have set it up on my swivel mount. Will post impressions later on with pictures. So far I don't see any banding or clouding/flashlighting. I'm in the midst of finding out exactly which panel I got.

With the exception that OLED doesn't come anywhere near Kuro motion resolution, even when you turn on all the processing.

I got my Samsung 50" 6300 delivered this afternoon, loving the TV so far, the picture quality with the PS4 PRO is amazing. So far I tried Uncharted 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Ratchet & Clank. I know that the HDR is not a fully working HDR, but the games that support it look stunning and for the price of $400. can't beat it.

After doing comparisons, looking at response times, back lit, wide color gamut, etc, it seems this year is really not the best year to get a TV.

I may do a stop gap and pick up Hisense 55H8C. It has decent response times of many TV sets, which most cannot match the Samsung KS8000. The KS8000 is edge lit though, among other things. That is why I think I can get a 55 inch 4K HDR TV now for 550 USD, and wait a couple years before going big. It beats the 6200 and 6300 Samsung series, and the LG similar series too.

Anyone have the 55H8C? or 50H8C? HDR was enable this past month via firmware update.

Reading around a little, it seems like the TV manufacturers are playing catch-up to make the best of HDR support. Like, in order to use it on the KS8000 you have to fuck around with a bunch of settings each time? Think I'm going to just hold off on getting a new TV until the dust settles.

I got 55H8C for $500. Honestly I love it. I want OLED but it's a great stop gap. The blacks are awesome on this TV. And even though it's not quite full HDR I think it looks very good (and yes, it was updated)

The TV senses HDR content and will switch modes automatically. It also saves settings by source. It's really a one time set up type of thing that you'd be doing with any TV.

Someone mentioned that they had to change the brightness manually each time on the KS8000 though? Is that setting not saved?
