That's sort of how MVC3 was announced. All we got was a teaser trailer with CGI in April. We didn't get any actual gameplay footage until E3 that year.

The X-Men's fate are linked to Doom's. No X-Men, no Doom (all part of Fox). But as mentioned before, there's reason to be hopeful.

Steve is actually Cap again, he just doesn't have his iconic shield. As for Thor Odinson, there's currently a story where he becomes the God of Thunder again....just with the Mjölnir from the Ultimate Universe.

After the release of Contest of Champions, Marvel Entertainment restricted the use of X-Men & Fantastic Four characters (Doom & Deadpool included) for all future games. However, as of recently, Marvel Entertainment & Fox's relationship improved, and now there's rumors of Marvel Entertainment lifting said restriction sometime next year (or at least being less of a dick about it). The question now is, assuming that MvC4 is happening, if Capcom sealed the deal after Marvel Entertainment's change-of-heart or not, as Marvel Entertainment (or more specifically, Marvel Games) typically chooses the base roster before development begins.
If we have to sacrifice him to get a CvS3, I'll take the risk.

Fox has the license for X-Men.
Only for the movies. Marvel can use the X-Men for games if they want to, they just chose not to (though that may change next year).
Yeah but a straight up Marvel would probably sell more. I'd rather excise all the Capcom shit to get a full roster of Marvel characters.

2. Mahvel is revered and in it they have a fan favorite, established franchise
3. They probably want to dip their toes into eSports and the mobile game market isn't really esports friendly while in Mahvel they have an established community

One thing popped up in my mind that may be an issue. Some of Marvel's newest line of voice actors kinda overlap with Capcom's, namely Laura Bailey voicing both Chun-Li & Black Widow and Roger Craig Smith voicing both Chris Redfield & Captain America. You guys think Marvel would recast or Capcom?
people have been begging for marvel vs capcom for years not a marvel exclusive fighter.
i might be wrong but weren't there some japanese overlaps in MvC 3? i imagine they'd just keep the same actors.

Kevin Feige doesn't run Marvel Games. Marvel Games is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, which is run by Ike Perlmutter.
