Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Anyone know how you can watch stuff in 4K on samsung 4K tvs? I just got the Samsung UN40KU6300 and I'm not exactly sure where you can find 4K stuff.

edit: Got it, thanks guys.

You need 4K content like a UHD player,4K games with PS4 Pro or Xbox One S 4k output. Upgrade your netflix plan to 4k. Download HDR content from places like UHD3D, or just open the youtube app and type 4k demo etc.

Its not size or sharper graphics, its the image quality thats most important. I wouldnt trade my 55" B6 OLED for a 75" LCD

n0razi I can't thank you enough for the tip on the SD dude who got me into the EPP program. Loving my tv right now.

I've yet to post my impressions.

Hmm, Now I need to find the cheapest way to get 4k HDR out of my HTPC. Currently its only using the integrated graphics (Intel 2500) so that won't do it. I have a feeling its only the most recent cards that can do it too so it might have to wait.

For nvidia, both maxwell and pascal support HDR, but it looks like pascal has some nice new features that would make it the one to go for. 950 would be cheapest and probably smallest if that is a factor.

This seems a useful link http://mymediaexperience.com/4k-htpc/

I doubt my i3 with HD520 integrated graphics will be able to handle 4K but I might experiment with steam streaming

Just bought Xbox one S - couldn't resist for £229 with £23 cashback, and three free games which I either don't want (halo) or already have (Fifa, FH3) so I can just sell them. Should pretty much be £150 after all that.

Not bad. I'm assuming you want it for UHD?

25% for UHD (might buy a couple of films but I prefer ripping and playing on plex)

25% HDR with Xbox games

50% get my son off the bloody TV with constant Fifa (he can use the old one) :)

If I didn't need the OG Xbox I reckon I could effectively swap for free after selling the white XB1 and Kinect

Guys quick question:
Do any of the games support HDR on the Normal PS4? If not then what was the point of updating the Normal ps4 with HDR?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I really want to know before getting a 4k HDR TV as it might be some time before I get the ps4 pro.
Do we have any off screen videos showing hdr on normal ps4?

Thank you. So long story short, no game currently supports hdr for normal ps4. That's my take from that. Correct?

Well, they mention the Witness patch and that's out now, so that's one.
I can't see a reason why games with HDR support on the Pro wouldn't have it on the normal PS4. Has anyone tested Infamous (post update) for example on a normal PS4 with an HDR TV?

Yes, you can play inFAmous in HDR from a standard PS4, as long as your TV supports it.

That article was true at the time, but not anymore.

After doing comparisons, looking at response times, back lit, wide color gamut, etc, it seems this year is really not the best year to get a TV.

I may do a stop gap and pick up Hisense 55H8C. It has decent response times of many TV sets, which most cannot match the Samsung KS8000. The KS8000 is edge lit though, among other things. That is why I think I can get a 55 inch 4K HDR TV now for 550 USD, and wait a couple years before going big. It beats the 6200 and 6300 Samsung series, and the LG similar series too.

Anyone have the 55H8C? or 50H8C? HDR was enable this past month via firmware update.

I got 55H8C for $500. Honestly I love it. I want OLED but it's a great stop gap. The blacks are awesome on this TV. And even though it's not quite full HDR I think it looks very good (and yes, it was updated)

Agreed. I have the 55H8C and it is excellent. One thing that's really nice about it too is that the ARC Hdmi is on hdmi 2 which is a non hdr input. I have no idea why mfgs are putting arc on 1 of 2 available hdr hdmis (sony). I wish that all 4 inputs were hdr 4k 60 but having 2 is better than a vizio m or Samsung 6300 with only 1. It has 2 hdmi 2.0s and 2 hdmi 1.4s. I have my PC running at 1080p and do downsampling and xb1s and ps4 pro on the hdr inputs. Works well enough.

So last week I bought the x700d and PS4 pro from best buy together for $999. At the time the tv was priced at $899.

Now less than a week later the tv is priced at $699. Any chance I can get some kind of compensation?

As long as its not a black Friday deal I'd call them and ask. Say you'll gladly just take it back and buy a new one if not.

There's a lot of 4K videos on YouTube if you want to check out some free stuff, too!

At Best Buy now, was going to get the 60' KS8000, but the store rep insists the 65' KS9000 is the better value and picture.

Opinions? I see KS8000 mentioned constantly, but wondering if 9000 is worth the extra cash.

So buying the tv and ps4 separately would still be more expensive than $999.

Why would they give you anything? Doesn't hurt to ask I guess but seems unlikely.

Rep is just trying to upsell to you. KS8000 is the better value.

KS8000 is much better value. Paying a premium for negligible picture quality difference and only build quality. Again, make sure you stringently look over the panel when you get your 60" KS8000. The panel is different compared to the ones in the 55" and 65". The guy is trying to upsell you. You would be better off getting the 65" KS8000 than the 9000.

KS9000 is all about diminishing returns, but it's a nice display. IMO they should have skipped it and had a flat FALD display. I might have chosen that over OLED. Instead they went for a curved FALD set. ugh..

But seriously, diminishing returns are the norm for AV gear.

Is there a reason why I can barely find any video reviews of the US ks9000? Searching for it on youtube usually gives you the curved ks9000, which confusingly is the european version of the US ks9500

I'm to decide between the Sony KD49XD8088, which is £616, and the Samsung UE49KS7000, which is £799.

Is the Samsung significantly better to justify the price difference? Both are 10-bit panels from what I can gather from other threads on here.

From what I heard the Samsung panel is quite a bit brighter. So if that's important to you, consider the Samsung. I went with the 55' X800 and I'm really happy with that, but it doesn't get as bright in HDR. To me, that's perfectly fine because it absolutely is way brighter than what you're used to from regular LCD panels.

Read through this thread. These two models are talked about in tons of posts and tons of detail. They even have their own threads they are so popular. But this will probably be my last time answering it.

It is your choice. Is the KS8000 a better television? Yes. It has better black levels, contrast and full HDR10 inplementation meaning it can do over 1100 nits of brightness. It cannot sustain it and drops to around 500ish. It also has better input lag. The pros on the X800D is the color and upscaling technology. No one beats Sony at this. More of the wide color gamut spectrum, the upscaler is better. I personally like Android 6.0 better than Samsung tizen os. Beyond that. Both are 10 bit panels. I would say based on your cost. The Samsung is the best option for you at 49". I have the 43" X800D and the 65" KS8000. If the price is £183 pounds, you might as well. This way you don't have to. Both will give you great gaming. But at 49", the Samsung is superior in a lot of aspects.

As someone who exchanged a 55h8c for an 49x800d, I regret it because the x800d I got has terrible backlight bleed along the top of the panel, and pq/clarity is noticeably worse in upscaled 1080p content. Blacks in the h8c are also leagues better than the ips Sony. Colors seem a bit more vibrant and hdr video seems to pop a little more, but at this point if say the h8c is a better tv than the Sony x800d, at least the 49 inch.

I think I'm going to return it and get another h8c. I might give the x800d an exhange shot to see if another one doesn't have backlight bleed, but if another one has it I'm going back to the hisense.

Keep in mind 49" is IPS whereas your Hisense was 55" with local dimming and a VA panel. So obviously the blacks will be better. The trade offs are obviously better HDR, better motion handling, better android OS, better and wider color spectrum. I don't see how clarity is worse though. X800D has the X Reality Pro 4K upscaler. Amongst tv's it is bested only by Sony's own 4K X1 Pro and 4K X1 Xtreme processors. But it really is user preference. I also think dropping down 6" may be another culprit here as you just came from seeing an image that was 6" bigger.

I noted in my post it was due to it being ips but I didn't expect blacks and contrast to be this bad. Dark scenes it's like everything is just grayish black. Size isn't the issue. The biggest problem is immediately noticeable bleeding along the top of the panel. My gf is even like yeah that's fucked up, return it, and she thought I was crazy for returning the h8c. She also thinks the hisense genrally looked a bit better.

I don't care what kind of mumbo jumbo processor the Sony has I'm saying the hisense looked better running comcast and 1080p streams. Sony is somewhat noisy and less sharp iq wise in comparison.

It's because of the few folks who reviewed the set and made a video review are European and in Europe the tv model is the KS8000 which is confusing because here in the States the KS8000 is the tv many on gaf have been fawning over for the price and rightfully so.

AVforums review

ABT review, I think the review is ass but w.e.

RGB Direct review another review from no name source

As you can see the video reviews are slim pickings and some aren't from very reputable or respected sources. What did help me out alot were the following written reviews byRtings and the Vincent Teoh review

For the longest time I wanted the KS8000 but the many reports on forums such as AVS and AV of the back panel becoming unglued made me pivot towards the KS9000. Once Samsung EPP became a reality than it was a no-brainer really.

Amazon.de has this offer currently:
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01IW655Z8/

Sony DX7504 65" for 1299€
How does this model compare to the Samsung models?

The often mentioned KS8000 (KS7000 in Eu) in 65" costs 2000€+ in Europe. Is it so much better than the Sony to justify the 700€ extra?
But Samsung also has the KU6300 (KU6000 in Eu) and KU7000 (KU6400 in Eu) for 1299€ and 1500-1600€ for the 65" versions.

So how do these Samsung models compare to the Sony model?

Can you explain what you mean by diminishing returns? I assume you mean its not future proof
I have the Sony X800d 49 inch but thinking of spending the extra $ and switching to the KS9000 since im not going to be upgrading for a LONG (years) after this.

This is my first TV.

He means the more you spend, the less value you will get for your money. Like the KS9000 is slightly better than the KS8000, but not enough to justify the additional cost.

Here is what rtings says

"The Samsung KS8000 is a better buy. It is almost as good as the KS9000 on all aspect, it just doesn't get quite as bright. The price difference is not worth it, so buy the cheaper KS8000."

I've seen a great deal for an LG 43UH603V putting it in my price range. I wasn't intending on looking at 4K HDR as I was just wanting a TV for bedroom, but with this I can out TV in living room up to bedroom and this could be in living room.

Some question's as this really is confusion the hell out of me.

It says on LGs website its HDRpro. They have HDR and HDRpro on their TVs, but a website I was looking at for reviews claim its only 8bit HDR and not 10.
Is it worth the jump for movies which feature HDR? What about future proofing?

I am not planning on getting a Pro but an Xbox One S for HDR and 4K blurays (with Scorpio down the line) I've seen that LG sets have terrible lag in HDR mode, is there anyway to find out this models input lag as I've not seen any place on line to help.

Thanks.

Target still has Hisense 50" h6c 4k TV for 249 + additional 15% off at checkout. No hdr but for under 250 you get a 4k 50" set! Anyone have one of these?

Welp jumped on the LG43UH603V (UH6030V in America). Managed to see a few reviews and details in this thread earlier on.

I know its not HDR10, know its other limitations but looks a great set for the price (£350).

Looking towards an Xbox One S now, and getting the Xbox upstairs so my PS4 can come down stairs.

Pity that PS4Pro didn't have 4K bluray playback, as I may have upgraded.

So now that I have a 49x800d without backlight bleed I'm very happy with it. The other panel had uneven lighting I think too and now I'm ok with the blacks and contracts, especially with the enhanced contrast set at medium.
