Rumor Mill (TAKE WITH GRAIN OF SALT): Marvel vs Capcom 4 revealing at PSX/Capcom Cup

Mine was basically backed up by two people who are familiar with it. In fact, when I first heard of this project, it was simply a 'Versus' title. A new entry in the series. It's been about 2 years now and this is what it's become. And yes, one of the people who backed it up is involved with Capcom. At this point, I would be shocked if it werent happening.

That all sounds really refreshing, but so many puzzle pieces aren't adding up. Two years ago was exactly when Capcom lost the Marvel license and the final day MVCO could be distributed was December 2014. As I said in the video that just went up, there is a chance the new policies in place at Marvel Games could allow for a new kind of contract to be negotiated between Marvel and Capcom for the creation of a new VS title. But we're still talking a pretty big maybe even in that situation. I want to believe. I really do.

Also, would that mean Neo left mid development of a new versus game? Seems hard to believe.

This is also a huge one, as NeoG, the main designer for almost EVERY Marvel associated Capcom title left the company because, 'he was promoted and was no longer designing games'.

Did you hear about this 2 years ago, or did you just hear about it now being in development for 2 years?

2 years ago, but in context, it wasn't specifically Marvel 4. It was described to me as just being a deal signed for a new Versus game. At the time, I thought Marvel 4 was impossible. It probably wasn't even Marvel 4. It probably started off as something else and became Marvel 4 recently.

Like I said above, it wasn't specified to me as being Marvel 4 back then. I had just heard that a new deal for a Versus fighting game was signed, specifically with Sony actually. And it was less than 2 years, closer to 1.5 years ago. I imagine that it was a non-Marvel game at first, and became Marvel 4 after the opportunity opened up.

Fascinating stuff.

How's SFV post launch? Are they done adding new modes and characters?

They have added a lot of content post launch and they're going to keep adding more. So far they've added

-6 DLC characters (that you can buy with in game currency)
-Cinematic Story mode with cutscenes
-Challenge Mode with character trials
-Vs CPU mode (I can't believe it took them so long to add that but eh)
-A ton of more stages (and also all of the older levels now have special stage transitions when you KO someone on one of the sides of the screen).

An Arcade Mode and Akuma are both on the way and we'll probably see at least one more season of 5 or 6 DLC characters.

I want to believe too but the chances of this 0%. I think your being generous at 5% and come next week everyone is going to be very disappointed. This is modern day Capcom we are talking about here...

another name on the list?

Hmm. Interesting. Wonder what it could've been.

Rip Street Fighter Vs Ace Attorney...

If they do MvsC4 and it's PS exclusive like SFV and they still don't put MvsC3 on XB1 BC I will most definitely have plenty of salt to take that with.
As I sell my XB1 for a PS4.

It's interesting to see this thread transition from a day fueled by hype level out to a day of skepticism with a hint of cautious optimism.

You heard this 2 years ago?
So this thing was in development at same time as SFV? Weird.

If his source is legit then that would make sense because it took a year to get license deal to through, and working on concept designs for characters since they have to go back and forward with Marvel to work out the plans.

I remember it took them a year get everything on the paper for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 development. Since it's time consuming to get a lot of approval from Marvel Game Studio.

I believe (or at least remember hearing somewhere) Marvel 3 started development before SF4 did.

I'm not sure when SF4 development started but I know the development for MVC3 started in 2008, iirc.

Honestly, even with the 'rassurances' I have had, a large part of me is still on team #NotReal. I just know the sheer challenges facing a game of this magnitude are so much that the chances of it coming are tiny. But I want to live in a world where Marvel 4 is real. 2016 has been awful; after a Trump presidency, we need this.

If not Marvel 4, what might it be?

It makes sense in the fact that a lot of times these leaks can be legit. When you have the producer of MvC3 say that it's not in the works than it's reasonable to keep our expectations tempered, but I'm also hoping for the best. An MvC4 announcement at PSX would be so sick.

Honestly, if that's true (which I have my reservations for), it kinda scares me. Capcom starting development that far back would likely mean that they would be bound to the same no-Fox-characters restrictions that the post-CoC games had to endure. At least if they sealed the deal sometime this year when things started to improve, there's a chance that we could get some of the main Fox characters like Wolverine, Deadpool, & Doctor Doom. But if what SneakersSO is saying is true, we can kiss any chance of the X-Men/F4 characters coming back goodbye.
....until maybe DLC.

Even when those particular tweets are actually several months old?

People forget mvc2 had reused assets from mvc1 and clone characters. Granted, the sheer amount in characters and quality is nothing to laugh at when it was all hand drawn in the 90s.

At the time,I thought Sony was gonna pursue a new 1st party fighting game venture. Like, PlayStation Vs. Capcom was what I thought this was going to wind up becoming.
So could your sources just be wrong and this isn't a MVC game but a different fighting game, or is the situation like if we don't see Marvel 4 we arent going to see a new fighting game

You guys are getting worked up for no reason. This is probably a very minor reveal like season 2 for sfv. And playable akuma for sfv that's it. There will be no mvc4 or cvs3. Probably not even a umvc3 HD remaster. Don't set yourself up for a disappointment like that imo.

I know what it is.

It's a Marvel Heroes AND Contest of Champions port, exclusive to Sony platforms until they make the Ms. Marvel movie, so until 2046

Nah, cause the Marvel 4 stuff came my way very recently from the same group of contacts, whereas back then it was just a Versus game. It's just one of those things where you don't hear about development for a long period of time, and then you hear the update and it became a whole other beast.

Resident Evil 2 remake?

What's your point tylerrob??

Marvel 4 requires a Marvel license and I honestly don't see Capcom fitting that bill. Sony could but looking at the performance of SFV for Sony and Capcom, I seriously doubt Sony would want to throw money away for another under performing Capcom game.

Since I have some free time and I want to believe, here's my wishlist... lol

So hope rises
Have your contacts been reliable in the past

Even when those particular tweets are actually several months old?

For saying nothing at all was in the works several months ago still is soon enough that there's no way they'd announce it at PSX as there's no way it would be ready. Now if he is just bluffing or is not involved in the project that's unknown.

They've never been wrong. I just hear from them about stuff they are working on or colleagues of theirs are working on. However, it's game development and I'm a dev myself - I know that things are always in flux until official announcements are made. It may very well be that a Marvel 4 is real, but I'm conflating the info my friend got me with the FGC rumors for Marvel 4 and next weekend.

Imagine if it's like SneakersSO said about hearing about a versus game and a deal made with Sony...

And it turns out it's Marvel vs. Sony.

Just read this, hopefully it turns to be Marvel 4, thanks for the info!

We'll have to wait for a few more days...

I've seen people say this, but they keep forgetting Nitsuma is a bit of a troll too. When TvC came out, people were asking why Dante wasn't in. He said something along the lines of "We just couldn't make it work this time, maybe next time." When he was revealed for MvC3 Nitsuma admitted he made that reason up to keep MvC3 a surprise.
