Long story short, after Contest of Champions came out, Marvel prohibited future developers from using X-Men & Fantastic Four characters. The Maximoff Twins were also subject to this supposed ban, with the exception of Lego Avengers. Now there's rumors of Marvel easing up on said restrictions sometime next year, but the concern on my end is that this change-of-heart may have been too late for MvC4 (if it's indeed happening).
Oh dear, the return of the cryptic tweets.. What a ride that was!
God I wanted Cyclops so badly in MvC3. Don't do this to me.

Basically, since at the latest mid-2014, any video game developer who has developed for Marvel has not included any characters from X-Men or Fantastic Four affiliated IPs.
Games that have made license contracts before then have these characters, and the last one to have been released at that point was Contest of Champions.
Games that were released since then, such as Lego Avengers and Future Fight, have a notable absence of any of those characters. One of those games' developers even has come forward and mentioned that Marvel is not allowing them to use these properties (I think in that specific case they were talking about The Thing from the F4).
There also was the Disney in-house games that were shut down earlier this year - Avengers Alliance 1 ceased any X-Men/F4 content since mid-2014, Avengers Alliance 2 didn't even have any.

They would figure it out, but I suspect the Marvel characters would heavily influenced by MCU so this Mark 1.

If MVC4 happens and the restriction affects it,maybe DLC could help in some way.
If we were to take that as an MvC4 teaser, it means one of two things.
- Cyclops is in MvC4
- Wolverine's leaving because there's no X-Men in MvC4
I'm not sure if Marvel Entertainment gave a fuck about legacy with the ban active. Even if Marvel Games cared, Perlmutter has the final call.

At any rate I almost get the impression he's just teasing us the same way a lot of FGC figures have been the last few days. I remember his Ultimate tweets being a lot more cryptic and unimportant than his comprehensive leaks for vanilla Marvel 3 and SFxT, and I'm being reminded of those right now.

I came back from a decade of not posting on SRK for it.
You say this like Thor was a popular character in MvC3/UMvC3.
There will only be ruckus if you alternate/genderbend the gods of Mahvel, or the veterans like Spidey and Wolverine. We're gonna have soiled diapers if Logan and Peter are replaced by X-23 or Gwen or even Miles.
I think most people would welcome She Thor tbh if it means a faster, more agile Thor.
