Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

Well, after some thinking I've decided to wait on a 4k TV for now. After moving from a house where I sat roughly 8ft from my 65" 1080p Vizio M series. My new house is setup with roughly 16ft between the TV and my sofa. I'd have to go 75" to really appreciate the 4k goodness. Plus my old house was way brighter so I just recalibrate the TV for my current house and damn the picture is perfect. So still happy for now.

Can you explain what you mean by diminishing returns? I assume you mean its not future proof
I have the Sony X800d 49 inch but thinking of spending the extra $ and switching to the KS9000 since im not going to be upgrading for a LONG (years) after this.

This is my first TV.

Diminishing returns means that as you approach the ideal, every little bit costs more and more. You can generally get within 80% of the best for not a lot of money. As you approach the best, the price increase vastly outpaces the quality improvement.

This is how audio and video gear has always worked. Bless you, if you want to pursue that final 5%.

all right, i'm confused. the ks9000 is a flat screen. are you talking about the ks9500 or last years ks9000 (which if i'm not mistaken was curved for 2015).

I'm pretty sure he/she means that the KS9000 (which is an edge lit LED) should have been FALD instead. I could be mistaken but for 2016 I think the the KS9800 is the only FALD Samsung set available. I agree they should have had 2 flagships. A curved and flat FALD set.

oh, yeah i see now that i have reread it. sorry, half asleep at the moment.

Finally got my Samsung UN40KU6300 and it looks incredibly good. I played Journey for the first time and Uncharted 4 and everything looked crisp and clear. Seeing how great this looks has me excited for more games to support it in the future too.

I'm coming from a 720p TV too, so there are times I'm just looking at the screen in awe too.

Does anyone have a clue on how to turn off the global dimming feature on LG 4K smart webOS tvs? Its driving me mad. Ive been over all the settings and cant find anything to stop it.

I didn't jump on that Samsung KS8000 EPP discount last week, because I wanted to try and resell my current set before I did.

And now it's unavailable to purchase directly from Samsung. Only through third party retailers.

I dun goofed, Gaf. :(

I have the 49" LG HU6030 and I think it looks fantastic.

Anyone have any tips to use this TV with my new PS4 Pro? What picture mode should I use?

First time I tried booting the PS4 I only got sound, no picture. Had to boot into safe mode and enable HDCP (?) 1.4 or something like that to have a picture.

you goofed.

Microcenter might have them still. $899 for a 55" best buy will price match it too.

do it, don't let your dreams be dreams.

This is also another problem/con with the LGs, both in the 2015 model I bought (43UF6400) and the new 2016 43UH6030 model I replaced it with. Another problem I see is that the 2015 model with WebOS 2.0 actually looked better when used as a monitor for some reason and enabling PC mode was easier...

But yeah, you can't seem to stop this automatic processing that adjusts contrast/brightness depending on what's being displayed. The "Photo" picture mode seems to reduce it the most though, but as mentioned, I bought these for dual-use as monitors and the Game picture mode is the best (to me) after enabling full PC 4:4:4 mode on the HDMI port you connect your computer to, by 1) changing the HDMI port's icon to "PC" and 2) turning on "Ultra HD Deep Color" 4:4:4 (4K resolutions past 1080p won't get enabled till you turn this on!). Photo just doesn't look as good for a PC as the Game mode, but yeah, this dimming feature, adjusting blacks'n'whites depending on signal, is really annoying...

I did a thorough search, and tried many settings (Auto Black Levels, Gamma, etc.), but nothing can stop it completely... I think we'll have to just hope somebody gets the Service Menu code to see if there are more options to disable all this type of automated processing which I'd suspect adds unwanted lag time as well.

EDIT: FYI. Fair warning if you're a perfectionist with a touch of OCD: I returned the 43UH6030 back to the store twice because I caught an affected pixel given that dirt got trapped behind the protective screen plastic... You couldn't clean/wipe it away, but the 3rd one was perfect (my last attempt, otherwise I would've given up), so I'm keeping it... The only way to identify this is to make a white 1080p image file, display it, so that all pixels are turned on to maximum white, and to scan all areas to see if you got what looks like a bad pixel... If you can't clean it off, it's dirt on the other side!

I don't see why people put themselves through this.

Well, I caught the problem while using it as a monitor from 2 ft. away as a white area appeared, in that sense, I shouldn't say a white image is the *ONLY* way, but it's likely the easiest, fastest way to spot the problem now and not later... I tried cleaning it off, couldn't, and upon looking at it closer, I realized it was actually a speck of dirt behind the plastic... Thing is, once you spot a flaky/distorted-looking pixel like that, you can't unsee it, heh... Your eyes always go in that direction and you'll keep spotting the problem, so the principle is that I paid for a new product (Black Friday price or not), didn't go for some opened box markdown or a display store model, I *should* get a 100% working TV out of the box, hence I returned/replaced it...

I have the 49 UH6030 model. Anything I need to know when connecting a Pro to it? I can't seem to locate the "Ultra Deep HD color" option.

Has anyone with the KU6300 compared HDR vs no HDR? I know someone earlier posted a review saying that there was a difference. I am aware it's not full HDR, but I'm just interested in some real world opinions. I bought a 65" Sony X750D last week, but I'm going to return it. Over the past few days and the wearing off of the new tv honeymoon, I'm less and less enamored with it. The contrast ratio is not good and it's just not bright enough. No more IPS panels for me.

I want to stay at 65", which is why I'm interested in the KU6300 if the HDR makes a difference and if the judder is not too noticeable (60hz panel). If not, I guess I will just take the hit and drop to 60" and spend a little more to get a KS8000, which might be the smart thing to do anyway. Or just wait and see if there are any good super bowl sales on the 65".

You gotta turn that on for every HDMI port where needed such as when connecting a PC or a NG game console for sure. For a PC, if it's off, your video card control app won't detect 4K capable resolutions. Some devices like an old BluRay might not work well, so it's turned off on all 3 ports by default.

Goto Settings -> All Settings -> General -> "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color"

ON
Supports 4K@60 Hz (4:4:4, 4:2:2, and 4:2:0).
OFF
Supports 4K@60 Hz (4:2:0).

Here's a User Guide link:

http://kr.eguide.lgappstv.com/manua...settings__general__deepcolor_k_u_b__enga.html

You'll be asked to reboot every time you turn it on/off BTW.

EDIT: Err, you meant the PS4 Pro, I see. Yeah, you'll need to do the following for a game console:

1) Pick a HDMI port, 1, 2, or 3 to always use for that console.
2) A little tricky, but while console is running and connected after choosing the proper HDMI port, press the Input button again, go down to "All Inputs", and go right to "Edit Icon" where you'll need to find/select a Game icon (this marks that HDMI port for game console use)... This AFFECTS default picture settings, improves them for a console AND you get the lowest input lag possible for 1080p: 39.7 ms...
3) Finally, set Picture mode to "Game" and you may customize Backlight, Sharpness, etc. to what looks best to you afterwards.

Thanks for the reply. How do you enable the full 4:4:4 PC mode? Thanks.

EDIT

Do you mean going into the inputs menu and changing the icon to PC?

EDIT 2

Sorry I cant't read :D I'll change the input to the PC icon and report back.

Any B6V/P Oled owners here?

Is is worth it over a great quality led screen? How's the brightness or the complaints about ABL?

I managed to pick up a KS8000, and I am extremely happy with it. Since I'm rather new to the HDR game, I'm rather curious about what all these different HDR options are/mean....

I see some TV's are labeled as HDR10, some HDR1000, some HDR Premium, some HDR Pro, and finally some HDR compatible or capable....

Are these all the same with just different names? I'm thinking about picking up a cheaper and smaller model 4K-HDR TV and this is all very confusing.

Could anyone offer some insight?

I'm reading a Panasonic review and I think this fits to this question,

Like all manufacturers, Panasonic claims that its mid-range 2016 models support HDR (high dynamic range). Those claims are possible because the industry failed to set minimum requirement for HDR in time. Yes, we have since gotten the "UHD Premium" logo that sets specific minimum requirements for HDR, but it does not rectify the situation since all mid-range TVs are still allowed to slap on a homemade "HDR" logo, even if the TVs have no hardware to reproduce HDR. The fact of the matter is that these mid-range TVs simply do not have the hardware to reproduce HDR.
In that sense we feel that many of the same points that we raised in our Sony XD85 review also apply here. The panel in DX750 is not 10-bit. Peak brightness was measured to 435 nits (see measurements section), but even more importantly DX750 does not have local dimming control, which means that when it tries to reproduce HDR the darkest areas of the picture light up, destroying black levels and crushing shadow details.

This is just a massively subjective set of questions. The people who own OLED displays by default prefer them to other tech. The people who went in a different direction either don't like it, or don't think it's worth the extra money.

I've gotten an offer to buy a 55" Philips Ambilight 55PUS6501 at a good discount.
6990 sek instead of 9990 sek. That's about 757 USD.
I wonder if its a good fit for a PS4 Pro or gaming in general?
It's a 4K TV with HDR+ but I am not sure about the response time and lag.

Today I have a 46" Sony Bravia KDL46EX500 that I bought in 2011, that I'm still OK with.
Somebody know if there is a difference in quality?

I just realised if I replace my Xbox and PS4 with the S and Pro, I'll have to connect them direct to my TV as my receiver doesn't support 4K. But that means I can't play games or blurays on my projector..

Need to start secret plans for receiver switch in the spring (need to let dust settle from Tv, Xbox one S and PS pro )

I currently have a Vizio P series, but I'm moving and my landlord offered to buy my TV.

I likely won't settle into another permanent living situation for about 3-6 months, which is when I'll buy a replacement TV. Will Samsung KS8000 and Vizio P series still be safe bets at that point? Is there anything interesting on the horizon? Or maybe there's no way to know before CES?

This is what's stopping me from upgrading. New TV, new receiver, new console... could be upwards of 4 grand.

Simply not feasible at this time, especially when I just bought all of these things two years ago.

At Best Buy now, was going to get the 60' KS8000, but the store rep insists the 65' KS9000 is the better value and picture.

Opinions? I see KS8000 mentioned constantly, but wondering if 9000 is worth the extra cash.

Asked this question myself earlier this week. GAF told me the only real advantage the 9000 offers is in the upgraded chip processor that makes the UI and app functions run somewhat less sluggishly than the 8000. Otherwise it seems the tech driving the screen is identical. Still, the price gap seems too large to assume there really isn't anything else majorly different?

After ordering nearly 2 weeks ago my KS8000 is finally being delivered today. I am so pumped.

Hold that thought.

I just got a call from whatever company AGS passed this on to (Diamond Freight) and they asked me what my schedule looked like for this Thursday or sometime next week.

What the heck kind of bullshit is this?

I am so angry.

RTings has been saying the panels are basically identical in their tests. Different chipsets and I believe the 9000 has a small increase in dimming zones? (like 2-4 more columns).

I ordered on November 22nd around 7:30ET and paid for 2 day shipping. FedEx delivered my set November 25th. I live in Brooklyn btw. Have you tried contacting ASG?

I have talked to them multiple times on the phone last week. They guaranteed today 12-4. It has been sitting 2 hours away since the 21st.

I emailed them to verify and they also emailed me back saying 11/29 12-4. Their own tracking still has an appointment listed for this time.

Yet they must hand this garbage off to some other two bit operation who called and asked how Thursday or next week delivery sound.

I have never dealt with such BS.

(It shipped the 15th. Arrived in Milwaukee on the 21st. It was originally scheduled to deliver the 22nd. They said no, the 29th ot will be. Today comes and they are pushing it off again)

If you ever owned a Plasma TV, nothing comes close except OLED and maybe the Sony ZD9.

ABL is super obvious to me, but it's not a problem for many. It's more aggressive than you think however.

Just a question guys. So I recently picked up a Sony 55X850D to use with my PS4 Pro. It replaced a 40' entry level LG 4K panel that I used for both my consoles and as a secondary monitor for my PC.

The problem that I am having now, is that once in a while (actually quite often) while using the TV as a PC monitor, I'd get this sort of stuttering/jittering that is highly annoying. It is incredibly pronounced when I'm scrolling up and down a page, or when I am watching a video of any kind. I have all the post processing garbage turned off, plus the LG never had this issue, so I have no idea what's causing this to happen. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

So I plan on getting a PS4 Pro and 4k TV real soon.
I am having trouble chosing with these two. Which one would be best for a PS4 Pro and as well as being used as a second monitor to stream games from my PC?

Sony XBR-49X800D

or

Vizio P50-C1

Or is there a better option I can get for the price of either I am deciding on?

Thank you,
