Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

So I plan on getting a PS4 Pro and 4k TV real soon.
I am having trouble chosing with these two. Which one would be best for a PS4 Pro and as well as being used as a second monitor to stream games from my PC?

Sony XBR-49X800D

or

Vizio P50-C1

Or is there a better option I can get for the price of either I am deciding on?

Thank you,
Get the Vizio P50-C1 if you had to pick between the two. You're getting a VA panel than the IPS in the Sony XBR49X800D. Not to mention the fact the P50-C1 is FALD, not edge-lit, so local dimming is much better on that than the Samsung KS8000.

If you ever owned a Plasma TV, nothing comes close except OLED and maybe the Sony ZD9.

ABL is super obvious to me, but it's not a problem for many. It's more aggressive than you think however.

Yea my 2008 Kuro still looks far better than my current 4K led. Those blacks are just exquisite. Shame plasma disappeared.

Ok a few things - I have a LG EF9500 (2015 OLED LG TV).

I have a distributed video matrix that supports all the latest technologies (4:4:4, HDR, 8bit, 10bit, 12bit 4k @ 60fps, HDCP 2.2, HDMI 2.0). The bottle neck for me is the HDBaseT extender which over Cat6a are not yet capable of all features (next year Altona is allegedly releasing one http://atlona.com/product/at-cent-301-cea/ that will feature all specs )

Would it be better to have 4k, 8bit, 4:2:0 + HDR or simply have 4k, 10-12 bit, deep color, and no HDR?

My gut tells me the HDR option is better - but I have no idea how "much" better.

Just a question guys. So I recently picked up a Sony 55X850D to use with my PS4 Pro. It replaced a 40' entry level LG 4K panel that I used for both my consoles and as a secondary monitor for my PC.

The problem that I am having now, is that once in a while (actually quite often) while using the TV as a PC monitor, I'd get this sort of stuttering/jittering that is highly annoying. It is incredibly pronounced when I'm scrolling up and down a page, or when I am watching a video of any kind. I have all the post processing garbage turned off, plus the LG never had this issue, so I have no idea what's causing this to happen. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Sounds like a PC issue rather than the TV.Video drivers maybe?
My father bought the same tv yesterday and I am planning to visit with my Pro.How is it with the console? Also HDR looking good on that TV?

Anyone else using this TV with Pro?Any tips before I visit my father.

Does ASG contact me before delivery?

Ordered a week ago, it's been in my city since two days ago, and no new updates so far.

Posted this in the KS8000 thread. You need to call them proactively. Mine just got delivered today, but only because I called the toll free, got the number of the local AGS office, and asked them to schedule a delivery. My guess is they would have sat on the package for a few more days if I hadn't called.

The only problem with it being a PC problem, is that my primary Acer Predator monitor doesn't have any of those issues.

I haven't played too much yet, but from the few games I've tested out (FIFA 17, CoD:IW, Dishonoured 2), the image quality looks amazing. I haven't specifically been doing any HDR tests, so someone else might have an answer in regards to that.

If it is primarily gaming, get the Sony. Input lag on the Vizio is almost double and for a PC monitor especially will be noticeable. The Vizio is the superior set in terms of black levels and picture quality. The Sony has better colors though, even though both have wide color gamuts. IPS vs VA panel is tough question as well.

Call the support number on their tracking website... had to wait about 5 minutes but I easily refused delivery on my KS8000 before they wasted their time trying to drop it off at my place.

Just missed the vizio at $800. Was on sale at Bb for that last week.

This was also my dilemma with the 49x800d at $650 vs the vizio. No bbs had the vizio in stock and I ended up with the Sony and am very happy.

I like that it has a regular remote and Amazon hdr support. The pq and colors are excellent and hdr is very dramatic. Blacks could be better but they aren't terrible. Having ambient light in the room basically removes the issue, and I'm waiting for a 6500k bias light to install from Amazon which should make it good to go even with lights off. Avs p series forum also seemed to be rife with ps4 pro and xb1s hdr issues, but I believe the newest beta firmware update resolves the issue. A big plus for the vizio is dolby vision support, but there is very little dv content and at this point it almost seems like it has already lost the hdr format war. I also think design wise the x800d is nicer than the vizio and even the ks8000 mainly because of the centered metal stand.

It's a tough call for sure.

Maybe a dumb question, but I can't seem to track down the main TV topic.

My parents recently upgraded to a LG B6 and cannot wrap their heads around the motion controls. One's a surgeon the other a successful artist, but the remote stumps them. I'm 100+ miles away, so becuase I can't help them I want to get them a nice remote that controls the TV, receiver, and cable box. What's a solid easy to use "parent friendly' smart remote that will adequately navigate LG's WebOS? The ones I keep seeing seem way to cumbersome for them to invest time in learning.

Thanks to those that replied, other than those two, what would be a better option under $1000.00 USD.?

I'd say this guy:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004OVECU0/?tag=neogaf0e-20

The ir is kind of limiting but the smart harmony remotes are kind of a pain in the ass to set up.

The ks8000 on sale is about the oonly other option.

Or a Hisense H8C or Samsung 6300 are great budget sets pq wise but don't have very dramatic hdr (lack wider color gamut). H8C color gamut honestly is pretty close to dci-p3 90% standard. Both sets have good blacks and contrast ratio but the h8c has local dimming for super deep blacks.

Samsung will hold value better though.

Theoretically also possible to pick up an oled lg b6 for $1000 but only a huge sale, and that would be hands down the way to go.

Man what kind of garbage is ASG?

Firmware update that's scheduled to reduce lag to 45ms then to 35ms with a maximum backlight increase. This is why I make sure, I'm informed on all display models and brands, so I don't put out misinformation.

What misinformation? What I stated is the facts and reality now. When they update firmware then it will be different. Until then, input lag is almost double.

Otherwise you can theoretically say that the X800D input lag will also decrease when Sony puts out the first substantial update which they have done for the late 2015 and early 2016 models halving the input lag etc.

So what's the point in omitting the fact that a firmware update is coming in a couple weeks to reduce input lag?

I can tell you by omitting that fact suggest it can't and will not be addressed or fixed. Therefore it is misinformation.

Omitting what? It is ACTUAL FACT that as of the time I am writing this post, the Vizio input lag is over 60ms. What Vizio promises to do and what they HAVE done right now are two separate things. Basing decisions around theoretical and hypotheticals is dumb. There is no guarantee the update will come or will do what it says until it does. When it comes, then you can say the input lag is reduced etc.

So you are implying that the CTO of Vizio Matt McRae who has informed current display owners on AVS forum, on future firmware updates, provided facts about firmware updates.

Is now himself spreading false information as fact, although everything he has posted has been proven to be infact, factual. He provides detailed technical reasons for why issues exist and how they will be fixed.

The lag is doubled because HDR10 was or is currently piped through the Dolby Vision SOC, the firmware update is to bypass the DV SOC and knock off 15ms and even more by increasing backlight brightness.

Do you work for Vizio or what? No I am simply saying as of RIGHT NOW, input lag is double on the Vizio. What they are working on, what they are releasing is irrelevant until they do. Do you ever ask yourself why the CTO of Vizio is on forums reassuring buyers or potential owners there is a fix in the works. I have no doubts that they are coming up with firmware to reduce input lag. Every company even LG ans Samsung are working on these kinds of firmware updates. But until they reduce input lag, the point stands. Now drop it. I won't recommend a set based on the potential for improvement down the line.

Don't work for them at all. It is my opinion that when you are providing information you provide all of the information. So if have knowledge of possible changes that will, may, or may not come in the future, provide it. It would be much more beneficial to the person receiving it.

Based on my observation, the CTO shares a lot in common with the consumer then most CTO's. It seems more like a passion then just a position, because he puts just as much effort behind other Vizio product releases.

He also to my surprise, created his on thread asking consumers what they would like to see in next years displays.

Other than that, I'll just move on, understanding we have different views on what information is necessary when providing any.

It's a shame there aren't more fald tv's available. The ZD9 and the Panasonic DX900 are probably the best lcd screens out there.

Nobody knows if a Philips Ambilight TV is good enough for gaming and a good upgrade from my current TV?

I've gotten an offer to buy a 55" Philips Ambilight 55PUS6501 at a good discount.
6990 sek instead of 9990 sek. That's about 757 USD.
I wonder if its a good fit for a PS4 Pro or gaming in general?
It's a 4K TV with HDR+ but I am not sure about the response time and lag.

Today I have a 46" Sony Bravia KDL46EX500 that I bought in 2011, that I'm still OK with.
Somebody know if there is a difference in quality?

It is not irrelevant st all. If I was choosing to spend my money now, the face that Vizio intends to release this soon would be extremely important.

The world needs more FALD sets, so I'd be willing to wait or roll the dice.

Probably the wrong place to ask, but this is kinda relevant. My parents are getting an LG 43UH603V with their Sky Q. Both are in their 60s so will settle for the default picture. I won't. Does anyone know the best calibration settings for this TV?

I'm trying to hold out and wait to get an LG OLED B6 when prices drop a little more, but these deals are tempting.

Through employee pricing, I can get a Samsung KS8000 65" for $1079.

My current 46" Panasonic Plasma is fine, but man it is tempting to upgrade to the KS8000 and PS4 Pro right now.

Prices are going to rise for the OLED's and then slightly drop into next year as the newer models are announced. OLED always is discounted by LG around this time and then rises afterwards slowly dipping back down. You may as well wait until next year, see what kind of goodies CES will bring.

Am I stupid or a good human being?

Bought a 65 inch B6 OLED last week(3998€). Wanted it delivered 1st of December.
Then I changed my mind and picked it up my myself the next day.

Fast forward to tonight, the delivery guy calls me and says he's delivering my TV tomorrow.
While I'm Already watching netflix on it.

I called him back and said I already got it.
/cry

Probably the right call, if they realized they would make you pay for it or return it, so potential hassle outweighs slight prospect of a free tv. If you sold it or something and after the fact they realize they have you 2 tvs, the police could get involved as well as what you did was fraudulently accept delivery without payment.

So I feel a bit crazy here. I have a Sony 4K TV, and it games that offer "higher resolution mode" I'm not really seeing a difference. So much so that I prefer the "1080p higher framerate" options. Maybe the upscaler on the TV works really well or maybe my vision isn't that great now?

Most people can't discern a difference in 1080p and 4k unless they are pretty close to a display, or the 1080p upscaling is terrible.

Just started exploring the Android TV store on my XBR930D.

Kodi/Exodus and SNES9x EX+ are just there to be downloaded. Plus the Dualshock 4 pairs to the TV. Now I know I made the right TV choice!!

In German law they actually can't make you pay for it and have to pick it up themselves.
If I used it they could have taken some money for usage though.
And if I returned it they would probably have noticed it earlier.
Meh. Free TV sounded so nice though for a second

Hmm...I've been debating between this TV and the KS8000. You are convincing me to go Sony. Need more impressions!

Aside from the debate i had about picture settings..a debate thats applicable to any TV though..i have loved eveything about the TV so far. I didnt realize the Google Play store would be such a big factor for me but I think its my favorite feature. An actual app store where you can download whatever you want as opposed to the 10 same old apps those other companies give you.

Plus..if you know what Kodi can do..well its the full program here. And I just plugged a thumb drive into my TV and played A Link To the Past.

Hi guys,

Yesterday I tried GAME MODE in my Samsung 4K tv , it's mentioned that it reduces quality a bit, but what I have noticed is that actually it's making everything look cleaner/ sharper in the details with a small ajustement to the settings and it runs smoother/ crisper as it should in Game mode.

Am I in the dark or do you guys see that GAME MODE degrades your visual quality in general ?

I'd believe many people won't notice at a glance, but I found that was actually true of SD vs. HD as well. Once you get some exposure and start to realize the differences it ceases to be true. It's also absolutely not the case if you know what you're looking for in the first place. I'm 48 and have mediocre eyesight and even at 55" the resolution differences are readily apparent to me so long as I'm wearing glasses.

... and that's not even the most important part of recent display technology. Better color representation and HDR are the biggest wins, IMHO.

There is a viewing distance for 20/20 vision beyond which you can't see a difference unless there is some terrible processing going on. It's much closer for any given size display for 1080->4k than it was for SD->HD. That's the reason HDR is such a big thing.. 4k really wasn't.

There have been quite a number of studies on this.

AndroidTV is pretty great. Built in Chromecast support and Android apps are going to be better supported than others.

It'd be nice if they could update it to be chromecast ultra compatible (although initially I'm sure the 4K sources will stick with things like Netflix and Amazon video which are already covered by apps on the TV)

Agreed that you have to bring viewing distance into the picture when talking purely in terms of resolution. At 6-7' the resolution of our 55" display is a distinct improvement for fine detail. Our 65" display puts the line closer to 9'.

It's a mistake to make the argument that 4K is irrelevant but WCG and HDR are a big deal because they often go hand in hand. Better display technologies are only available in 4K displays, so lots of people are getting color gamut, dynamic range, and resolution improvements all at once. The difference isn't night and day but it can still be pretty striking.

Works fine with a DS4? Can you get moonlight or similar to stream from PC?

Welp jumped on the LG43UH603V (UH6030V in America). Managed to see a few reviews and details in this thread earlier on.

I know its not HDR10, know its other limitations but looks a great set for the price (£350).

Looking towards an Xbox One S now, and getting the Xbox upstairs so my PS4 can come down stairs.

Pity that PS4Pro didn't have 4K bluray playback, as I may have upgraded.

PITY your missing out on really sharp looking games on the PRo. It really does make a diference, at first I was skeptic, but after playing R&C, IW, TR,WD2, Hitman and Uncharted I was sold.

SO very clean so very nice.
